"How can she enjoy Jia Yue's love for her with a clear conscience? How can she pretend to be so indifferent every year on this day..." Xu Tingchuan was still a little drunk, and his words began to become unclear.
Ni Sitian stroked Xu Tingchuan's back, not knowing what to say, still in shock, repeatedly murmuring, "It's alright, it's alright."
Suddenly, she heard the sound of a door being pushed open behind her. Ni Sitian turned around and was startled to see Jia Yue standing outside the door.
Seeing Ni Sitian's horrified expression, Xu Jiayue laughed and said, "Did you see a ghost? Why do you look so scared?"
Ni Sitian realized she hadn't heard what Xu Tingchuan had just said, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She patted Xu Tingchuan and reminded him, "Jiayue is here."
She was afraid that he was drunk and wouldn't realize what was happening, so he might say something inappropriate.
"Why did you drink so much, brother?" Xu Jiayue frowned when she saw the empty bottle of vodka.
"Jiayue, is there something you need?" Ni Sitian was feeling anxious, afraid that the longer Jiayue stayed here, the more likely she would hear things she shouldn't.
"Oh, I'll get you some fruit." Xu Jiayue placed the fruit platter on the coffee table, then added, "Should I go ask Uncle Wang if he has any hangover remedies or anything?"
"I can take care of him, you go and rest first." Ni Sitian was determined to get Xu Jiayue away.
Xu Jiayue didn't think much of it, nodded, and went to her room.
Ni Sitian looked down and saw that Xu Tingchuan had fallen asleep leaning against her, so she helped him up and whispered, "Go to bed and rest."
Xu Tingchuan was a little unsteady and was helped to lie down on the bed. Ni Sitian wrung out a towel to wipe him down.
Worried that he would have a headache the next day after drinking so much, I went downstairs to ask Butler Wang for some medicine.
Butler Wang was just about to order someone to take the medicine upstairs when Ni Sitian saw this and took the medicine from the maid, saying to Butler Wang, "I'll take it up to Mom later."
After she finished speaking, she went upstairs, fed Xu Tingchuan one pill first, and after seeing that he was sleeping soundly, she went up to the third floor.
When he arrived at Jin Rulan's room, he saw that the door was ajar. He raised his hand to knock, but saw Xu Haicheng sitting by Jin Rulan's bedside. Jin Rulan seemed to be very drunk and was sobbing.
“Aru, it’s been over twenty years, why can’t you let him go?” Xu Haicheng wiped Jin Rulan’s face and sighed softly, “You’ve been more devoted to Jiayue than to Tingchuan. You’ve taken such good care of her, why do you still punish and torment yourself?”
Ni Sitian paused for a moment, then knocked on the door to interrupt him before opening it and coming in.
"Dad, this is hangover medicine." Ni Sitian handed the medicine box to Xu Haicheng, glancing at Jin Rulan, whose cheeks were flushed from drunkenness, lying on the bed.
"Okay, go and rest." Xu Haicheng took it and smiled gently.
Ni Sitian turned and walked out of the room. The reason she stopped listening earlier was because she was afraid of hearing more things she shouldn't have.
Xu Tingchuan was suffering because she knew this secret she shouldn't have known, so she felt that it was better not to know some things than to know them. Jia Yue, who knew nothing, lived a much easier and more carefree life.
Ni Sitian went back to the room and saw that Xu Tingchuan had already sat up. She quickly went over and asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Xu Tingchuan shook his head, but his hand unconsciously pressed against his stomach.
"You're not allowed to drink on an empty stomach anymore." Ni Sitian was still a little annoyed that he was hurting his body. She picked up the noodles on the coffee table, which were still warm, and fed them to Xu Tingchuan's mouth: "Have a couple of bites, it will make you feel better."
