Chapter 294: Making Choices (Part 1)
Sima Jun walked slowly, but his face was real.
Soon, she saw his eyes turned to her.
The momentary intersection made my heart beat wildly and my body tremble.
"Grandson pays his respects to the Queen Mother." Sima Jun came before the Queen Mother and was about to bow, but the Queen Mother personally supported him.
"Are you feeling better?" she asked with concern.
"My grandson is well now," Sima Jun said. After that, he looked at Sun Wei and said, "I wonder if the Empress Dowager would allow Madam and the Left Supervisor to sit down. I will tell her the whole story."
The Queen Mother was immersed in the surprise of Sima Jun waking up. She immediately asked Sun Wei and Yu Yi, who were still standing beside her, to sit down, and then helped Sima Jun to the top and let him sit next to her.
Looking at Sima Jun's pale face, the empress dowager was quite moved.
"You scared Grandmother." She tapped the corner of her eye with her sleeve. "Why are you going to suppress bandits in the middle of the night, kid? The capital is under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Guards. Just let them do it."
Sima Jun said, "Empress Dowager, after this incident, I believe even more that the Imperial Guards should be thoroughly disciplined. They were originally used to protect the palace and the surrounding areas, but now they are using public resources for personal gain and engaging in illegal activities. This is a serious problem."
The Queen Mother's expression changed. "So, the people who attacked you that day were really members of the Imperial Guards?"
"There is no doubt about it," Sima Jun said. "The veil that my grandson used to remove the thief's hand during the fight was none other than Right Lieutenant General Liu Kai."
There was silence in the hall for a moment.
The one with the ugliest expression was Wang Han.
He stared straight at Sima Jun and was about to speak when he suddenly noticed the empress dowager's gaze sweeping over him and quickly stopped.
"Oh?" The Queen Mother turned to look at Yu Yi. "I remember Yu Zuojian just said that Liu Kai is in the Supreme Court?"
"That's right." Yu Yi replied.
The Queen Mother nodded and said, "In the future, we should conduct a thorough interrogation."
Before Yu Yi could respond, Sima Jun said, "My grandson just went to the Supreme Court, and Liu Kai has confessed."
Everyone was surprised.
Sima Jun pulled a document from his sleeve and presented it to the empress dowager: "This is Liu Kai's confession. Please review it, Your Majesty."
The Queen Mother took the confession, glanced at it, and then slowly closed it.
"I still have a lot to say to Ajun, so you guys can go back." She turned to everyone and spoke.
Sun Wei couldn't help but look at Sima Jun.
Sima Jun also looked at her with a deep gaze, and then nodded slightly.
"Bo Ya," the Queen Mother continued, "go to the Imperial Court first and bring Ah Zhi and Ah Kuan home, then come to the palace to see me."
Wang Hao heard the deep meaning in the Queen Mother's words and knew that something had changed.
He said his goodbyes in a hurry and rushed to the court.
After everyone left the hall, the Queen Mother opened the confession again.
This time, she looked very carefully.
"Did Liu Kai really give Azhi away?"
"That's right." Sima Jun replied.
"You confessed under torture, didn't you?"
Sima Jun had anticipated that the Empress Dowager would not easily believe him, so he calmly replied, "If you don't believe me, you can ask the people at my grandson's house. When the concubine left, my grandson was still unconscious. How could he have been tortured into confessing in just an hour? It was simply that Liu Kai was so guilty that his legs went weak when he saw my grandson, and then he confessed everything."
The Queen Mother nodded slightly.
"What are you going to do with it?" she asked.
Sima Jun reported, "Of course we must investigate further. On the way here, I heard about the events of the past few days, and they are beyond shocking. Wang Zhi and Liu Kai colluded with the imperial guards. Who among the imperial guards was involved? How did Yang Qi die? And with the recent death of the right lieutenant, all of them are human lives. We cannot let them go lightly."
"Whoever caused the death should clean up the mess, that's for sure," the Queen Mother said. "However, Grandmother hopes you'll let one person go."
Sima Jun looked at the Queen Mother.
Even though he had expected this, he was still extremely disappointed when he heard the Queen Mother say this.
"Wang Zhi?" he asked.
"When the Concubine wanted to investigate Wang Zhi, I spoke out. You are my grandson, and Azhi is my grandson-in-law. We must treat you equally and not favor one over the other. I helped you back then, and it's the same now. I have to help Azhi as well."
"Even if Wang Zhi is wrong, will the Queen Mother help him?" Sima Jun asked.
"I'm helping him because he's wrong," the Queen Mother said. "Ah Jun, you know what Grandmother wants. Grandmother hopes that the Sima and Wang families can live in harmony and protect the world together."
"Grandma, Wang Zhi attacked me and I almost died. Do you want me to just sit there and keep silent?"
The Queen Mother sighed deeply.
She took Sima Jun's hand and patted it. "Grandmother won't teach you to swallow your anger in vain. Ah Zhi, let me teach him a lesson. Similarly, if you let Ah Zhi go, you can make conditions to Grandmother or Boya. As smart as you are, you won't waste this opportunity, will you?"
Sima Jun was silent for a long time, then slowly said: "Grandma, you guessed right, my grandson does have something he wants."
——
Sun Wei originally wanted to wait outside the palace gate for Sima Jun to come out.
Deng Lian, evidently having received Sima Jun's orders, advised, "The Crown Prince fears further mishaps, and has ordered me to bring the Princess back to the palace. Please board the carriage and return to the palace."
Since it was Sima Jun's intention, Sun Wei didn't want to cause trouble and had no choice but to agree.
After getting on the carriage, Sun Wei suddenly heard Yu Yi's voice.
She opened the curtain and saw Yu Yi coming this way, so she asked, "Sir, are you returning home?"
Yu Yi smiled: "Thanks to the princess and the prince, I can finally return home and rest."
Sun Wei said, "Master, you have worked hard these past few days."
Yu Yi looked at her, a hint of self-mockery in his expression. "If it weren't for the Crown Prince's divine help, I would have been unable to rectify the situation today, and all my previous efforts would have been in vain. I just went back to the Supreme Court to ask about this, and Liu Kai confessed to Wang Zhi the moment he saw the Crown Prince. I never expected such a difficult problem to be easily solved by the Crown Prince."
Sun Wei knew how he felt at the moment, he must be feeling both relieved and regretful.
Fortunately, Sima Jun arrived in time to rescue the siege. Unfortunately, the matter was not completed successfully by him.
"If it weren't for the young master's hard work, how could we have survived until the prince woke up today? The young master's contribution cannot be overstated." Sun Wei said.
Yu Yi shook his head: "I am not greedy for credit, but I almost let the princess make amends for an unjust crime."
"If it's about this, then you don't have to feel guilty." Sun Wei said hurriedly, "The situation just now seemed hopeless, and you were also implicated. I apologized, and the matter is over. It's already a good thing. Temporary advances and retreats are all normal, so you don't have to take it to heart."
Yu Yi nodded and bowed to Sun Wei again. "Your Highness, you are so open-minded. I admire you. Now that everything has been settled, you don't have to worry anymore. Please rest and recover."
Sun Wei nodded: "Please go back, sir." After that, he lowered the curtain.
The carriage started moving slowly, and the rumbling sound of the wheels sounded a hundred times more relaxing than when they came.
