Chapter 295: Making Choices (Part 2)
After Sima Jun woke up, the palace seemed to come alive and became lively.
Sun Wei returned to the palace and did not rest. Instead, he cleaned the house and drove away the bad air. He also prepared generous gifts and asked Cao Song to send someone to report his safety to Zhou Chang.
Zhou Chang was very pleased and sent the miracle doctor back, saying that he would live in Prince Yuzhang's mansion and take good care of Sima Jun.
Cao Song was also in high spirits. Not only did he settle the miracle doctor down, he also humbly asked for advice and asked the chef to learn how to cook medicinal food. He accumulated quite a few medicinal food recipes.
Seeing that everything was arranged inside and outside, Sun Wei was about to take a short rest when he heard the maid come to report that the prince had returned.
Sun Wei was delighted and quickly put on his fur coat and walked out quickly.
As soon as I reached the corridor, I saw Sima Jun walking towards me, surrounded by his attendants.
Sima Jun was tall, and standing in the crowd, Sun Wei spotted him at a glance.
He seemed to have recovered and could walk freely without anyone's support.
From a distance, their eyes met.
An irrepressible excitement welled up in her heart, but Sun Wei suppressed it and walked towards Sima Jun.
When she got to him, she stopped and looked at him, trying to make her voice sound calm: "Is the prince back? How are you feeling now?"
Sima Jun's face was still a little pale, but his eyes were bright and gentle.
"I'm fine," he said. "Madam, have you been wronged these past few days?"
Sun Wei was stunned.
These sudden words inexplicably made her nose sore.
She shook her head and smiled: "No, I am very happy that the prince has woken up."
Sima Jun looked at her.
"Me too."
She heard him say to himself.
These words were spoken very softly, as if talking to oneself, like willow catkins soaked in sunlight and intoxicated in the wind.
Although Sima Jun woke up, he was still very weak.
Sun Wei knew that he must be tired after all the trouble, so she didn't dare let him stay outside any longer and urged him to go back to his room to rest.
Sima Jun seemed to have a lot to say, but he could not resist Sun Wei's insistence and had to go back to his room.
About an hour later, Cao Song came to report that Sima Jun had caught a cold after going out during the day and had a high fever.
Upon hearing this, Sun Wei immediately rushed to Chiju.
Sima Jun was lying on the bed, having taken his medicine and fallen asleep.
He was sleeping so soundly that even Sun Wei and Cao Song talking beside him did not wake him up.
Sun Wei was quite frightened, fearing that he would faint again, so she did not dare to leave.
She had been running around for most of the day and was already feeling sleepy. The room was warm, so she sat on the edge of the bed. Feeling a little overwhelmed, she took a table and leaned against it to take a nap.
After an unknown amount of time, Sun Wei felt an itch on her face. She scratched it, then suddenly realized something and opened her eyes.
For a moment, his eyes met Sima Jun on the bed.
He was awake too, and was looking at himself.
"Is the prince awake?" Sun Wei hurriedly sat up.
Sima Jun said "hmm" and was about to stand up when Sun Wei stopped him.
She poured water for Sima Jun and handed it to him.
Sima Jun tilted his head slightly, took a few sips from the teacup in her hand, and moistened his dry throat.
"Madam, why don't you go back and rest?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
Sun Wei said, "The prince had a fever again earlier, and I was worried, so I stayed here to watch. Prince, don't move. I'll go call the doctor."
After she said that, she put down her teacup and was about to go out.
But his sleeve was pulled.
"It's late, there's no need to mobilize the troops," Sima Jun said. "Everyone couldn't sleep during the days I was injured. I'm well now, so we can talk about it in the morning."
Sun Wei looked at him and reached out to touch his forehead.
Sure enough, it was only slightly warm and the fever had subsided.
Sima Jun still looked at her: "Madam, would you please talk to me?"
Sun Wei knew that he was someone who couldn't sit still, so she had to sit down on the bed again.
Well, Sun Wei also had many questions in his mind.
"Although I have heard a lot about what happened in the past few days, it is not complete." Sima Jun said, "Please tell me more, Madam."
Sun Wei did not refuse and patiently told Sima Jun everything that had happened in the past few days.
"That day, General Chu brought the prince back. Half of his face was stained red with blood. I was terrified." Sun Wei tucked the corner of Sima Jun's quilt. "The prince said he would be back at dawn, but unexpectedly, he came back just like that. If you were me, would you still be able to sleep?"
"I was careless. I never thought I'd be ambushed." Sima Jun said, "But madam, don't worry. I'm fighting bandits for the court. Even if I'm gone, the Yuzhang Palace will still be there, and the court will still provide for your retirement."
Sun Wei was startled and widened his eyes: "Who said anything about retirement?"
"Didn't Madam say that we stayed in the palace for retirement?"
Sun Wei was speechless for a moment.
Sima Jun's eyes were clear, and Sun Wei suddenly felt that they were as scorching as a candle, and she couldn't help but look away.
"Retirement is retirement, but the prince is also a relative." She said, "Since he is a relative, I must also be considerate."
Sima Jun smiled and said nothing more, "I promised the Queen Mother today that I will not pursue Wang Zhi anymore."
Sun Wei was stunned, then widened his eyes.
"Why?" Sun Wei frowned and asked, "Could it be that the Queen Mother is so partial and is blackmailing the Crown Prince again?"
"It's not a threat." Sima Jun said.
"The king's crime is extremely serious. I can't think of any reason why the prince should not pursue it."
"What if I want Jingzhou?"
Sun Wei was stunned again.
Sima Jun looked at her seriously, not joking at all.
"Did the Queen Mother agree to give Jingzhou to the Crown Prince?" Sun Wei asked.
"I'll give you half of it," Sima Jun said. "I'll let Huan An return to Jingzhou. In exchange, Wang Han must acknowledge him as the governor of Jingzhou and refrain from targeting him in the near future."
"Huan An?" Sun Wei's brows twitched slightly, and she understood. After a moment's thought, she continued, "But if that's the case, wouldn't the Crown Prince return Jingzhou to the Huan family?"
"That's not the case," Sima Jun said. "Huan An is the governor, but I will have Ruan return as the chief secretary and have him bring all his staff in Kuaiji to Jingzhou Prefecture. That way, he can leverage Huan An and Jiangzhou to eliminate any resistance in Jingzhou. In addition, I will have Xie Xiao lead 20,000 Northern Army troops to Jingzhou for a rotation. This will weaken Huan An's military power."
Sun Wei nodded slightly. "Ruan Hui and Xie Xiao had already been sent to Jingzhou by the Crown Prince. They're just the right time to take up their posts. This is a brilliant plan. However, the Crown Prince sent Huan An back, presumably to stabilize the Huan family."
"That's right," Sima Jun said. "Jingzhou is a hot potato right now. No one but Huan An can control the Huan family. Besides, letting Huan An go back is a good way to put him in a good position. I don't want to take his life in the first place; it would be best if he could be used by me."
"But Huan An, who personally killed Huan Ding and drove Lu Qiuyan away, is no ordinary man. Isn't the prince afraid of letting the tiger go back to the mountain?"
