Chapter 162 A Flaw in the Perfection

Wow! Your room is so nicely tidy! It has wooden floors too! And the bed and furniture are great too.

Gu Wei patted him on the shoulder, "Alright, hurry up and go inside, or the neighbors will hear the noise you're making."

Gu Hongjie didn't want to be surrounded by people as soon as he arrived in the provincial capital, so he hurriedly stepped over the threshold and went inside.

With a smile on his lips, Gu Wei casually closed the door and then placed the two handbags he had taken from the car near the heater.

Gu Hongjie also took off his schoolbag and put it aside, eagerly exploring the area.

Gu Wei ignored him and the first thing she did after changing her shoes was to wash her hands.

Gu Hongjie walked to the low cabinet and exclaimed in surprise, "This little tank is made of bullet casings? Who gave it to you?"

"It was given to me by an elderly neighbor. I guess it was handmade by his grandson. If you like it, I'll pass it on to you."

Gu Wei was already an adult and wasn't particularly interested in such gadgets.

Gu Hongjie, however, liked it very much.

If Gu Wei hadn't urged him to wash his hands and face, he would still be playing with it so fondly.

After washing up and changing out of the clothes he wore on the bus, Gu Hongjie was finally allowed to go to bed and catch up on sleep.

Gu Wei's biological clock has always been to go to bed late and wake up late, but today he got up very early and wanted to take a nap.

As a result, after lying down, I couldn't fall asleep at all.

Especially when chatting, the more we talk, the more energetic we become.

Gu Hongjie rolled over and got up. "Your building is nice, but it has one flaw."

Gu Wei roughly guessed where the shortcoming was, and asked while suppressing a laugh, "Tell me about it."

"No TV. We can't watch Shanghai Bund at night! It's only been a few episodes, but it's so good!" Gu Hongjie was used to having a TV at home, so he would definitely feel uncomfortable suddenly being at Gu Wei's place.

"Want to watch Shanghai Bund? It's simple, just go to Old Xu's place and bring back an old one."

Gu Wei knew that Gu Hongjie was a TV addict. He used to be extremely frustrated when he couldn't watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes due to a power outage.

The TV series "Shanghai Bund," which was filmed and broadcast in Hong Kong in 1980 and was only recently introduced to the mainland, has clearly become a phenomenon again, causing the streets to be deserted.

Gu Hongjie weighed the options for a moment, then shook his head vigorously and said, "No, I'd rather not! If we bring a TV, what will happen if all the neighbors who don't have TVs come over to watch? It'll be too noisy! It's not like back home where everyone knows each other. Besides, before I came, my parents said I could only stay for a short time and then have to go back. How can I waste my precious time watching TV..."

Gu Wei was amused by his repeated swaying and was about to speak when there was a knock on the door.

Both of them instinctively looked towards the doorway.

Gu Wei asked, "Who is it?"

An old voice said, "I am your Grandpa Chu."

"Oh, Grandpa Chu. Just a moment." Gu Wei said quietly as he got out of bed and put on his shoes, explaining to the bewildered Gu Hongjie, "The tank made from bullet casings was a gift from him."

Upon hearing this, Gu Hongjie quickly slipped out to the bedside to put on his shoes.

When Gu Wei opened the door, he saw Old Master Chu standing outside, leaning on a cane with his right hand and holding a plate with six or seven steamed dumplings in his left.

"Grandpa Chu, please come in."

"Okay." Grandpa Chu handed the plate forward. "Take these steamed dumplings; I just made them."

"Thank you, Grandpa Chu. I can smell it, it must be delicious."

Gu Wei didn't refuse and accepted it.

At the same time, he understood that people don't come to the temple without a reason, and if it were just a simple delivery of steamed dumplings, the old man wouldn't think of coming in to sit down.

Who is this child?

Grandpa Chu entered the house with a cheerful smile, leaning on his cane. He looked at Gu Hongjie with curiosity, feeling that they looked very similar.

“This is my uncle’s child.”

Gu Wei pulled over a red chair for the old man to sit down. He could tell that Gu Hongjie was struggling with how to address the other man, so he smiled and said, "You can also call him Grandpa Chu."

Gu Hongjie breathed a sigh of relief and greeted him politely, "Hello, Grandpa Chu."

"Hello. What grade are you in?" Grandpa Chu asked kindly.

"I'll start junior high when school resumes," Gu Hongjie answered obediently.

"This child is quite tall; boys usually grow taller later."

As soon as Master Chu finished speaking, Gu Hongjie proudly puffed out his little chest.

Gu Wei found it quite amusing.

However, since the Chinese New Year, Gu Hongjie has indeed grown quite a bit taller, and is now over 1.6 meters tall.

After chatting for a while, Old Master Chu revealed the purpose of his visit.

“My eldest granddaughter bought a used color TV from your friend’s store a few days ago, and it seems to be doing quite well. I’m thinking of asking you to help me pick out a used black and white TV these next few days…”

When Gu Wei heard the first half, he thought there was something wrong with the color TV, but when he found out that it wasn't, he couldn't help but chuckle.

"How about this, Grandpa Chu, I'll drive you to the store tomorrow to choose for yourself."

"It would be better to choose in person tomorrow, but wouldn't that be too much trouble for you?" Old Master Chu wanted Gu Wei's help, but didn't want to delay Gu Wei's business.

"It's okay. Even if you hadn't bought the TV, I would still have gone over."

Gu Wei had a good impression of the old man who lived alone, and in the spirit of helping others, he helped him whenever he could.

"Thank you so much." Old Master Chu was very grateful and started talking about why he was in such a hurry to buy a second-hand television.

“My grandson was demobilized and returned to civilian life. After he reported to his new unit and sorted things out, he wanted to buy me a TV.”
