Chapter 195 Why Bring Up That Sore Word?

In the 1992 Spring Festival Gala, there was a skit called "I Want a Home" by Zhao Benshan and Huang Xiaojuan.

This marks their second collaboration since the 1990 Spring Festival Gala skit "Blind Date".

"I Want a Home" is still themed around blind dating, telling the story of a middle-aged couple who participate in a TV dating show. When things don't go well during the recording, they encourage each other and discover that the other is the other half they have been looking for.

Not only Gu Jianguo and his group were laughing so hard they were doubled over.

Even though Gu Wei watched it many times, he could still laugh every time he rewatched it.

Looking at Uncle Benshan, who looks old yet still young, I felt a mix of emotions.

He remembers that when he was a child in Northeast China, on New Year's Eve, they would watch Zhao Benshan's skit before setting off firecrackers and cooking dumplings.

If any neighbor were to be inconsiderate and set off firecrackers when Zhao Benshan appeared on stage, it could very likely cause neighborhood disputes, and there have even been rumors of physical fights.

Unfortunately, there has also been a lot of criticism. For example, some say that Zhao Benshan's works are too vulgar and not elegant enough, and others say that he deliberately portrays rural people in a negative light.

As a result, once he actually stopped appearing, a bunch of young and attractive actors and actresses would sing and dance with great enthusiasm, and there were also guest performances that were so awkward they made you want to dig your toes into the ground. The Spring Festival Gala got worse and worse every year.

Many people have started to miss Zhao Benshan again, feeling that without Zhao Benshan, the Spring Festival Gala has become a Spring Festival Gala without any expectations.

"I want a home, a place that doesn't need to be fancy, a place I can think of when I'm tired;

I want a home, a place that doesn't need to be big, so that I won't be afraid when I'm scared;

Who wouldn't want a home? But some people don't have one, tears streaming down their faces, and they can only wipe them away quietly by themselves..."

The sound of a male-female duet coming from the television brought Gu Wei back to his senses.

He noticed that Li Guizhi was wiping away tears, Gu Jianguo's eyes were also slightly red, while Gu Hongjie was cracking sunflower seeds and didn't seem to have much of a reaction.

Gu Wei quickly pulled out a tissue and handed it to Li Guizhi to wipe her tears.

Gu Jianguo couldn't help but complain, "How old are you? You can't believe you cried while watching a skit during the Chinese New Year."

Li Guizhi wiped her eyes, gave him a tearful but amused look, and said, "You still have the nerve to talk to me like that? Let the two children see who else has red eyes."

Gu Wei and Gu Hongjie both pretended to look at it, then burst out laughing.

Gu Jianguo, feeling a little awkward, also laughed along.

He naturally couldn't tell his wife and children, because hearing this song made him think of how painful it would be for Gu Wei, their child, to have no home after they were all gone.

Gu Wei noticed the complicated and distressed look in his grandfather's eyes, smiled and shook his head to indicate that it was all in the past.

Gu Hongjie didn't understand the strange interaction between his father and Gu Wei, and asked curiously, "What kind of riddle are you two playing?"

Gu Jianguo's expression changed slightly.

Gu Wei smiled calmly, "There's no riddle here. Shall we go release the flowers or not?"

They bought a lot of firecrackers and fireworks; if they didn't set them off now, when would they?

Gu Hongjie immediately forgot everything and shouted, "Go! Go!"

Gu Wei and Gu Jianguo exchanged a knowing glance, then got up and left the room.

They now live in that two-courtyard house, which has a lot of space.

So, Gu Wei and Gu Hongjie took out several boxes of fireworks from the storage room, set them up in the yard without going outside, and started setting them off.

Fireworks shot into the sky, bursting into a colorful rain of sparks that grew larger and larger, seemingly about to fall on people's heads.

Besides the Gu family, cheers and laughter could be heard from outside.

Many people watched the fireworks display with them.

When it was over, Gu Wei and Gu Hongjie returned to their room, just in time to watch Zhao Lirong's skit, "Mom's Today."

Teacher Zhao's Tangshan-accented phrase, "Tango is just walking and walking," has become a timeless classic that people fondly remember.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the whole family stayed up late to welcome the new year, and without exception, everyone got up later than usual.

After breakfast, Gu Wei drove Gu Jianguo and the others to the store first.

Although it's Chinese New Year, the shop is still open as usual, but the business hours have been shortened considerably.

After inspecting the building upstairs and downstairs, they left.

Next, they went bowling.

Bowling is now considered an aristocratic sport because it is quite expensive, typically costing over forty yuan per game.

This was a considerable expense at the time.

Therefore, bowling became a status symbol, and everyone considered bowling fashionable.

Bowling only became a major fitness and leisure activity for the general public after it developed rapidly like mushrooms after rain.

However, within a few years, bowling seemed to have been doused with cold water and disappeared overnight.

On the third day of the Lunar New Year, Hou Yongxian and his group came to visit my home.

When they meet, they inevitably exchange New Year's greetings and auspicious words.

Gu Wei felt that compared to Gu Hongjie, who had undergone a semester of military training and whose overall demeanor had changed considerably and whose physique had become more robust, Lin Hang, who had undergone heart surgery, was still somewhat thin and pale.

With her short hair, Lin Yu exuded a more capable and efficient aura.

Ke Yi has gained a lot of weight, whether it's due to the happiness of getting married or something else.

His wife and stepdaughter also came along.

After chatting for a while, the men started playing cards.

The women and children sat together watching TV, chatting, and eating.

Hou Yongxian and Gu Jianguo, two close friends despite their age difference, did not join the battle. Instead, they sat around the octagonal table, drinking tea, smoking, and chatting happily.
