Chapter Fifty-Five: Unexpectedly

After Zuo Taiqing left, Gu Wei said to Jian Fei, "Let's cancel the afternoon interview and choose him."

Now that he had a confirmed candidate, he didn't want to interview anyone else, so as not to waste everyone's precious time.

"Yes, Mr. Gu."

Jian Fei had a very good impression of Zuo Taiqing and hoped to work with him.

But this position is very important; her opinion doesn't count, and the boss has to make the final decision.

Now that my wish has come true, I am very happy.

Zhou Wenyi was surprised that Gu Wei was so decisive, making a decision after only three interviews. "Mr. Gu, aren't you going to take another look? Actually, there was another very capable person this afternoon."

"No need, I have things to do. You shouldn't stay in the shop too long either, it's still quite smelly after the renovation, it's not good for your health."

Gu Wei was concerned about the situation on the 84th, so he gave the two a few more instructions and then left.

Zhou Wenyi felt like her world was raining heavily.

Who exactly said that it's easy for a woman to pursue a man?

Gu Wei changed his clothes and returned to 84. He found that although there were not as many people buying clothes in the clothing store as yesterday, there were still more than twenty people.

The mud-brick house, originally converted from a warehouse, was not very large, and with the addition of a counter, it felt very cramped.

When Gu Jianguo and the others saw Gu Wei return, their eyes lit up.

But there were too many customers, and I was too busy to say much.

Gu Wei immediately got into the swing of things, quickly selling goods and collecting money.

Once the lunch break is over, there are fewer people.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Having learned from yesterday's experience, Gu Jianguo had prepared the food in advance and ate during a shift change when there weren't many people around.

Therefore, only Gu Wei hadn't had lunch yet.

Gu Wei went to the back room, and Gu Hongjie followed him.

"How about I eat some more with you?"

Gu Wei couldn't help but chuckle: "Then let's eat."

It's said that a half-grown boy can eat his father out of house and home. Gu Hongjie is currently in the stage of growing up and eating a lot. It's perfectly normal for him to get hungry again soon after eating.

Gu Hongjie scratched the back of his head, embarrassed by the laughter, and said, "I'm actually not hungry anymore, I just think it's kind of boring for you to eat alone."

“I know. Then go and get the food, and I'll put the kang table on it.”

Okay.

Soon, the food was served.

Stir-fried cucumber and potato slices, braised eggplant with sauce, leftover cooked food from yesterday, and a bowl of mixed rice.

Gu Wei glanced at the plate of cooked food that was still more than half full and knew that it must have been specially saved for him; no one had eaten more than a few bites.

He moved the plate directly in front of Gu Hongjie, saying, "It's hot, it won't keep. You should eat it all quickly, and I'll buy some more tonight."

Gu Hongjie blinked: "No need to buy a new one, right? Can we eat meat every meal?"

Gu Wei said matter-of-factly, "What's wrong with eating every meal? It's not like we don't have the money to buy it. Besides, life is short, so we should eat and drink as we please, or we'll regret it when we close our eyes for the last time."

Gu Hongjie thought Gu Wei's words made a lot of sense, but then he showed a confused and uneasy expression.

"Actually, things have been so good lately that I'm scared...it feels like a dream."

Gu Wei could understand Gu Hongjie's feelings. After all, it used to be difficult to even feed themselves, but now they had suddenly developed to the point where they could eat meat at every meal.

"Don't worry, things will get better in the future."

Gu Hongjie nodded vigorously: "Yes."

At that moment, Gu Wei saw his grandfather enter the courtyard with several people through the open window.

It turned out to be Lin Yu and her brother, along with their maternal grandfather.

As people approached, Gu Wei noticed that the siblings were dressed in well-fitting and fashionable clothes, and their appearance had changed considerably.

Lin Yu cut her hair into a short bob, which made her look playful and energetic.

Lin Hang's face was no longer so pale, and some color returned.

When Lin Yu and her brother saw Gu Wei, they excitedly greeted him in unison.

Hou Yongxian also greeted Gu Wei.

After we led them to the living room and made them sit down, we welcomed them.

Gu Jianguo went straight back to the front.

Gu Hongjie went to make tea and pour water.

Gu Wei said with a smile, "Lin Hang looks much better."

Lin Hang's eyes were filled with gratitude. He knew that before his grandfather appeared, if Gu Wei hadn't helped him, giving him medicine and money, he might have lost his life.

"Brother Gu, I have to thank you for all of this. You are my great benefactor, I..."

Gu Wei didn't want to hear any more talk about being treated like a slave, so she quickly interrupted him and asked, "Were you just discharged from the hospital?"

Lin Hang shook his head: "No." Then he looked timidly at Hou Yongxian beside him.

Upon seeing this, Hou Yongxian said, "Actually, I took my two children to another city for medical treatment. We just got off the train this morning."

Gu Wei asked curiously, "So, how was the assessment?"

Hou Yongxian sighed softly: "This child has pulmonary valve stenosis. His current physical condition does not allow for surgery, and the risks are also very high. So we want to wait and see."

Gu Wei looked at Lin Hang with sympathy. He was a good-looking boy, but he had this disease.

Given the current state of medical technology, the risks of surgery are indeed high.

"It's good to wait, he's too thin right now."

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Gu Wei noticed that Hou Yongxian seemed to want to have a private conversation.

"Xiao Jie, take them to the store for a look around."

Gu Hongjie immediately accepted the order, "Okay."

Lin Yu and Lin Hang obediently got up and followed.

When only the two of them were left in the living room, the atmosphere instantly changed.

Gu Wei slowly sipped his tea, waiting for Hou Yong to speak first.

"Are you wondering why I, as the grandfather, only just appeared?"
