Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Unexpected Package

Afterwards, Zuo Taiqing went into the main office, and Gu Wei returned to the next room.

He walked to the window, looked at the street and traffic below, and couldn't help but sigh softly.

Girls' thoughts are really hard to guess.

I thought Zhou Wenyi would quit or give up, but she became more determined after each setback.

Now, no matter how much he talks, the other party won't listen to a word.

Let nature take its course.

Who can say what will happen in the future?

Gu Wei stayed in the shop until seven o'clock, then left first.

After closing for the day, Jianfei sent him a message reporting the sales figures.

I learned that a total of more than 28,000 were sold.

Gu Wei thought it was pretty good.

It can be said that it exceeded his expectations.

With the restaurant business running smoothly, Gu Wei also planned to return to the 84 area.

I've been away for more than ten days, and I don't know how Grandpa and the others are doing. I'm quite worried about them.

However, before that, he went to the wholesale market and bought a lot of goods.

Then they hired a car to take them to a large warehouse they had rented in the suburbs.

Once back in 84, after emerging from a very secluded location, Gu Wei didn't linger in the city but went straight to the train station to take the small train back to the Forestry Bureau.

Gu Wei, carrying a handbag, had just reached the vicinity of his own street.

Gu Hongjie, who was squatting with a few boys playing marbles, spotted him, excitedly stood up, and ran over as fast as he could.

"Ah! You're finally back!"

Gu Wei could tell from Gu Hongjie's condition that everything was alright.

He was immediately met with a powerful and exceptionally warm hug.

I've missed you so much!

Gu Wei was overjoyed and hugged Gu Hongjie back with a bright smile, "You missed me so much!"

"Yes, I miss you, I miss you so much. Not just me, my parents miss you too. They talk about it every day, asking when you'll be back, whether there were any problems on the way and you were delayed."

Gu Hongjie looked up at Gu Wei and poured out his heart, then blinked and asked with a hint of concern in his eyes, "Why are you so dark-skinned?"

Gu Wei ruffled Gu Hongjie's hair. "He got tanned. Men, a little tan is healthy, it's sunny. How are the three puppies?"

Gu Hongjie immediately puffed out his little chest proudly: "I've taken good care of them. Now they've opened their eyes, can eat and sleep well, and have gained quite a bit of weight."

"You're really great." Gu Wei praised him without reservation.

Gu Hongjie was instantly happier than if he had eaten honey, grinning from ear to ear: "Lin Hang and I even gave them names: Black Dragon, Egg Yolk, and Little White. What do you think?"

Gu Wei thought the two children had quite a good name; it was simple, easy to pronounce, and "sounded nice."

Having gained recognition, Gu Hongjie became even more talkative.

They walked and talked, and before they even reached the shop entrance, Gu Jianguo and Li Guizhi, who had heard the commotion, came out.

Both of them were very excited.

"Gu Wei is back!"

"Was the journey smooth?"

"Everything went smoothly, Grandpa and Grandma, are you both doing well?"

"It's good, but I'm worried about you." Gu Jianguo had a lot to say to Gu Wei, but the area outside the gate wasn't a suitable place to talk, so he held back for the time being.

Li Guizhi looked Gu Wei up and down, "Aside from the dark spots, he doesn't look thin or have suffered any major injuries, so that's fine."

Just as Gu Wei was about to speak, three customers walked out of the store, followed by Lin Yu and Zhao Zhengying.

Lin Yu's cry of "Brother Gu" was completely drowned out by Zhao Zhengying's loud voice.

"Brother Gu, you're finally back. My dad and the others come every day, just waiting for you to come back."

"Really?" Gu Wei asked hurriedly, "Do Uncle Zhao and the others have something urgent to attend to?"

"No, not at all," Zhao Zhengying quickly said. "They're also thinking about you."

After confirming that Zhao Dajiang and the others were alright, Gu Wei and Gu Jianguo went back to the back room.

The three puppies' kennel was placed next to the kitchen cupboard, which Gu Wei saw as soon as he entered the door.

The little ones were snuggled together, fast asleep.

Just as Gu Hongjie said, he's gained weight, and his chubby face makes him even cuter.

Once inside the east room, Gu Wei placed his briefcase on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

Before he could even bend down to open it, Gu Jianguo excitedly pulled a package out from under the curtain of the camphor wood chest.

"Gu Wei, this is a package that arrived from the capital a few days ago. I suspect it's from that female college student..."

When they first received it, Gu Jianguo and Li Guizhi were overjoyed and eagerly awaited Gu Wei's return.

The girl has bravely taken the first step, so we need to follow suit in time, otherwise what will happen if things get delayed?

Gu Wei was genuinely surprised and reached out to take it with a look of astonishment.

Looking down at the neat handwriting, it showed the detailed address of a certain university and the name Qin Zhiman.

A smile played on his lips. If Qin Zhiman was indeed wearing a yellow dress, then her handwriting truly reflected her personality.

Faced with the expectant and curious gazes of his grandfather and the others, who seemed eager to know more, Gu Wei took out his tools and opened the package.

Inside were two boxes of Daoxiangcun pastries and a kraft paper envelope.

When they saw that it was food, Gu Jianguo and the others panicked.

After all, it's the middle of summer, and it takes many days to arrive by mail from the capital.

"I was thinking of waiting until you get back to open it, in case it breaks, right?"

"It doesn't look cheap. It would be a waste if it broke and grew mold."

"Sigh, I should have just opened it. But the moldy part shouldn't be a problem; I can just cut it off and eat it anyway."

Gu Wei listened with a mixture of helplessness and bitterness: "Don't worry, it shouldn't be broken."

He knew it was normal for his grandfather and the others, who had just come from a period of hardship, to be so reluctant to part with food.
