Chapter 75 About the Meeting

Chapter 75 About the Meeting

My hand, my hand, what are you doing?!

Feeling his body completely out of control, Mori Ougai tried to save his meager savings, squeezing the card with all his might.

To his utter surprise, it was the bee that took the card. It stretched out its two hind legs and gently hooked the card away.

Then, very considerately, it stuffed the card containing all its wealth into X's coat!

My money!

But it was as if he was being controlled; he couldn't even show the slightest distorted expression, he could only maintain a smile, and then his mouth was freed again.

X looked at Mori Ougai across from him, who seemed to have a smile sewn onto his face, and couldn't help but hug the Queen Bee tighter. What's wrong with this guy? Is he chatting with Carmen? Is he about to get into trouble?

Mori Ougai, maintaining his unchanging smile and echoing the sentiment of "I'm shy today too," said, "Mr. X, would you be interested in a temporary collaboration with the Port Mafia?"

His lips seemed to twitch slightly as he uttered words he never wanted to say again: "If we need you, we can provide compensation according to the previous standards."

Carmen's voice arrived as promised: Faced with an NPC who keeps his promise but has an unspeakable secret, what is Mr. X's choice?

Mr. X, who was waiting to make a decision, only felt Ms. Carmen's happiness.

"I accept your invitation." It's always better to be with people you know relatively well.

Carmen: The Port Mafia has switched sides. Congratulations to them for becoming partners of L Company!

Wait a minute, isn't something wrong? Shouldn't it be that we switched sides? Why is it that the other side switched sides?

The smile on Mori Ougai's face vanished abruptly, unaware that he had been turned on. Wasn't the other person's ability the bullets from that magic circle? Why was he being controlled to do such a thing?

"Then I hope we can have a pleasant cooperation in the future."

The down-on-his-luck leader, whose wallet had been drained, reached out a hand to shake hands with his business partner, only to be met with a head covered in tentacles.

Upon closer inspection, he realized that the bee's head was not a single piece at all, but rather pieced together from countless split pieces of flesh. Through the gaps between the flesh and the bees, he could see sharp, menacing teeth. The "cute" big eyes were just an illusion; he could only feel a chilling gaze, the gaze of a hunter looking at its prey or food.

Even Mori Ōgai, who prided himself on having seen it all, was taken aback. Without a doubt, this was the monster's lair, which was merely disguising itself as harmless.

X sensed the queen bee move slightly, and subconsciously touched her tiny, wonderfully soft wings after she shrank. He then grasped Mori Ougai's hand, which she almost pulled away from, and said, "It's a pleasure working with you."

Mori Ougai found X a deserted house at X's request. Abram, looking dejected, hugged the happy queen bee and looked at Li Xiang across the street, who kept telling him lame jokes in an attempt to cheer him up.

And then there's Gregor, who occasionally chimes in from the sidelines. Abram knew he was a kind and helpful man when they were locked up together, but the problem was that he was too kind.

The two of them were telling corny jokes in front of him, and Abram looked down and met the Queen Bee's blue eyes. Perhaps, only the Queen Bee could give him the last bit of warmth.

"...Rintaro!"

The blonde girl grumbled angrily at the incompetent adult, who was slumped on the table with a miserable expression. He had already ignored her calls several times.

Just as Alice was about to pull his hair, Mori Ougai said tremblingly, "Alice-chan, we're completely bankrupt. We don't even have money to buy you a small cake."

“Chief,” the orange-haired boy in a suit pushed open the door and entered. His chief was sitting upright behind his desk, his expression as somber as ever. The strange voice he had just heard must have been an illusion. “Commander Taneda invites you for a chat. Also, he seems to want to meet that Mr. X.”

Whether it was just my imagination or not, after Nakahara Chuuya said the name X, Mori Ougai's expression suddenly seemed a little bitter.

The leader, who was suffering in silence, asked, "Where is the location?"

"On a ship in the port area."

To ensure the safety of the attendees, each person may bring a companion, who is essentially a bodyguard.

At first, Mori Ougai was a little worried that X might bring the giant bee along with him, but it turned out that he had given the time bomb to someone else, and only himself and the long-haired man who appeared from the card last time.

As the group sat facing each other, X wondered what all this commotion was about, when he saw a bald man appear in the crowd, and a bad memory came flooding back.

That was the only anomaly capable of causing psychological harm to a manager who had used a cognitive filter; X refused to recall the horrific image of a company full of bald employees.

The bald man, who appeared to have worked on the bald head machine, sat down opposite him, accompanied by someone who looked like a secretary.

Taneda Santouka looked at the unfamiliar young man opposite him. He was very young, but seemed quite used to such a large group of people. He sat there calmly, or rather indifferently, as if he had no interest in Taneda Santouka and Mori Ougai at all.

The long-haired man beside him was terrifying; Taneda Santouka could feel the man's oppressive aura.

He was also young... Judging from the way the Port Mafia addressed him, X seemed to be their supervisor. This long-haired man, like his supervisor, showed absolutely no interest in them.

However, one thing is strange: Taneda used his special ability before boarding the ship, but it turned out that neither of them were special ability users.

But both their people and the Port Mafia members saw how X wiped out a group of monsters in two moves. If this wasn't a superpower, it couldn't be magic, could it? Even children in Yokohama wouldn't believe that magic existed in this world.

Let's deal with the Port Mafia situation first.

“My previous promise was that whichever organization solved this problem would receive the license. However, Boss Mori,” Taneda Yamatoka’s gaze sharpened as he looked at the Port Mafia boss wearing a red scarf, “even though it was your ally who solved the monster, it wasn’t you who solved it personally. Won’t he have any objections if I give you the license?”

The two men turned their gazes to the young manager who was whispering something to the long-haired youth beside him. For some reason, the golden-eyed youth refused to look at the farming officer, as if he were something dirty.

"Mr. X".

Only when she noticed his name did those golden eyes, which had refused to look at him, reluctantly turn around.

The supervisor put down his teacup, somewhat puzzled: "What's wrong?"

He really didn't listen at all. The bald officer wanted to touch his forehead. If he hadn't dealt with this monster, did he think he would have been able to see himself?

He wanted to say, "You rude brat," but looking at the long-haired man glaring at him and his own powerful supernatural abilities, he could only keep those words to himself.

"We are discussing the matter of a license to operate a superpower business. Our Superpower Special Operations Department has promised that whoever can deal with that monster will be issued a license to the corresponding organization, and from then on they can legally carry out superpower activities."

Fearing that X might not understand the value of the certificate, the farming officer even gave him a special explanation.

"Mr. Mori, would you like it?" The young man being asked tore the question to Mori Ougai, who was standing to the side.

However, X was a little confused. Wasn't the superpower business license supposed to be issued with just a word? Sakaguchi-kun had made a special trip to deliver this before, but it seemed to the bald officer that this kind of thing was rarely issued.

So he kindly inquired about his current partners, since he didn't need them. If Mori Ōgai didn't need them either, he could simply refuse.

Completely unaware of his supervisor's thoughts, Mori Ougai fell silent. The seemingly casual remark was entirely up to him to interpret: was it a genuine, simple question, or a test?

The former tuner sipped his tea, glancing at Mori Ougai, who was clearly overthinking things, without saying a word.

The leaders in every world tend to be straightforward, as those who know them well understand. You only need to understand the literal meaning of their words. Unfortunately, Mori Ōgai is not someone I know well.

A gentle sea breeze blew by, and Mori Ougai smiled as he spoke, "Of course, we need it."

But X's mind was no longer on Mori Ōgai. He saw a small figure among the seagulls, standing out from the larger ones.

Until a grumpy seagull pecked at the little bird as it passed by, the snow-white bird suddenly turned bright red.

Bloodstained feathers of seagulls drifted in the wind, staining the snow-white deck red.

Upon seeing this, the seagulls scattered and fled, while the little bird continued to fly leisurely, intending to land on the boat to rest.

An agent from the Special Abilities Division, who was on guard nearby, also saw what X was seeing, and he raised his gun...

It wasn't until the gunshots rang out that X realized someone was attacking the birds. Of course, these people weren't his company employees; not everyone would stay put and wait for orders.

Gunfire on this unusual ship was clearly unusual, especially gunfire from afar. The agent standing next to the shooter looked at him with a look of utter disbelief.

"Why did you shoot?! Are you crazy?!"

"There's a monster over there!" the gunman said, his voice trembling. "That bird has a huge beak on its belly."

"You drank too much yesterday, are you still drunk? What nonsense are you talking about?"

His superiors were prepared to take him along to plead guilty, after all, this was a ship belonging to the Special Abilities Division.

"It's coming!!"

"What……"

The bright red bird flew towards the agent who fired the shot, its large beak on its abdomen suddenly opening wide, instantly shattering the warrior who had fired the shot into pieces.

"I advise you not to attack."

The supervisor, seeing more and more people preparing to attack the bird, kindly offered a reminder.

"What a joke! Fukuhara is dead! Are we supposed to wait for that bird to tear us all to pieces?!"

Fukuhara's superior was a very experienced veteran agent, but the young man he was just chatting with was suddenly torn to shreds by a bird, and his warm blood was poured all over him. How could he remain calm?

"Sagawa, calm down!"

His colleagues noticed something was wrong with him, but he wouldn't listen. He activated his supernatural ability and attacked the little bird that had regained its white color.

...

"I already told you, don't attack."

The supervisor looked at the newly added minced meat with a sense of helplessness.

The little bird fluttered its wings and landed on X's shoulder, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
