Chapter 76 About the Birds

Chapter 76 About the Birds

The gray-haired man was casually rubbing the queen bee, which looked like a large ball of fluff, when he received a communication from Adam through the Construction Department's small group.

Adam: An anomaly traveled to his side through the passage of the magic bullet.

Abram: I understand. I will pass on the message when he returns.

Adam: I sent an employee with a portable containment device to be on the receiving end.

After informing Abram to have X deal with the mess he had made, Adam cut off the communication on his own. He still had to make up for the energy shortage; yesterday was a completely wasted day.

X, who was not only enjoying the sea breeze but also being targeted by a white-haired man, sneezed uncontrollably, quite forcefully, making the already tense atmosphere even more strained.

For a moment, everyone looked at the little bird on his shoulder. No one knew what the definition of harm was. The little bird with red markings on its belly did not move at all. It even squatted down and turned into a fluffy little bird ball, as if it were just an innocent little bird.

The little bird tilted its head, indicating it knew nothing about the two people who had just been torn apart.

"Mr. X, may I ask about this bird..." Mori Ougai looked at the harmless and cute little bird and couldn't help but think of the "bee." Was it the same type of monster?

"I'm sorry, this bird ran away from my house." X held out his hand, and the little bird readily hopped into the supervisor's palm, looking at Mori Ougai with its bright black eyes. "I'm sorry for what happened to those two. If there's anything I can do, I can help."

In the original world, X wouldn't have needed to go through all this trouble. The company would have provided maximum protection for their families, since they had essentially died because of the company. But in this impoverished place, all they could do was help out.

I'll try to build a containment chamber when I get back; every little bit of endorphin I can get will help...

This was exactly what Zhongtian Shantouhuo was waiting for. He no longer cared about the two dead subordinates; this was a good way to quickly find out their background.

"From what you're saying, you don't have anything like that in your family, do you?"

Ultimately, he didn't even know if this thing could be considered a living organism. The bird also didn't exhibit any supernatural power fluctuations. The head of the Special Abilities Division seriously suspected that they had some kind of device to shield supernatural abilities, or that it was a type that he couldn't detect at all.

“There are indeed many similar creatures in my house. We call them anomalies,” the white bird nuzzled X’s finger like an ordinary pet. “As for why it is outside, I don’t know either. Dr. Mori told you, right? We entered this city by mistake, and I have no contact with my family at the moment.”

Taneda Yamato noticed something was wrong and asked somewhat nervously, "You don't know how it got out?"

"right."

"Are you sure this is the only bird that escaped?"

The young man shook his head, and the bald officer's heart skipped a beat. If this kind of monster that attacks people for no reason were to roam around, it would be disastrous.

"Our condition is that you can resolve similar situations immediately."

"Can."

Rather, he would do it even if they didn't ask him to. Otherwise, would letting the anomalies run around be an attempt to destroy the world?

Mori Ougai disembarked with the business license he had been dreaming of, but his mood was anything but good; in fact, it was terrible.

He knew a little more than the Special Abilities Division. The queen bee in the old city also came from the "home" that X mentioned. Compared to it, the little bird, which only attacks one person at a time, could even be considered cute.

Yokohama is really about to change.

*

However, for Mori Ōgai, the biggest change was not those monsters, but a person, a person who was unusually familiar.

Former aspiring executive Rando, or rather, the transcendent Attil Rambo, openly appeared in Yokohama, constantly asking passersby for information.

However, he seemed to deliberately avoid his former residence and the Port Mafia.

He was no longer dressed in thick clothes, but rather so thin that one would think he might catch a cold. In this late autumn season, he was only wearing a black suit.

But that's where the biggest problem lies: he's a dead man, he's already dead.

An employee with long, dark brown curly hair was trying to find his supervisor when he was stopped by a familiar face—it was Osamu Dazai.

"It's been a long time, Mr. Lantang."

The child, who was a bit older than the one in the company, called out the name of the employee who was ordered to go on fieldwork.

He had one eye bandaged and was dressed in all black, looking similar to his family's. But upon closer inspection, he was clearly dressed as a mafia member, completely different from his family's black middle school uniform in both style and symbolism.

Rimbaud concluded that this was a misguided out-of-school child, no, an out-of-school teenager.

“Long time no see, Dazai-kun,” Rimbaud said to an acquaintance from another world, and asked the question he had been asking all along, “Have you seen a young man with short black hair and golden eyes, who might be wearing a white lab coat?”

This design is practically the manager's classic skin; using it to find people will definitely be quick.

Dazai Osamu looked at Rimbaud, who was practically shoving "I'm looking for X" into his face.

"I know, do you need me to take you to him?"

"Thank you for your help."

Rimbaud hadn't expected to find the person so easily... No, he was taken to the Port Mafia by Dazai Osamu.

Dazai Osamu was not lying to him; X really was there, in the leader's office.

Because X had repeatedly requested that no one visit his residence without a valid reason, all related matters were sent to the Port Mafia. After all, the bloody example of ignoring advice was still there, so naturally no one would cause him any trouble.

Unlike the Port Mafia before Rimbaud was taken away by X, the leader of this world has changed. Sitting behind the desk, wearing a red scarf, is Mori Ougai.

Although Rimbaud was somewhat surprised to see the leader version of Mori Ōgai, he still had important business to attend to. However... perhaps it was just Rimbaud's imagination, but did Mori Ōgai's hairline seem to have receded a bit?

Mori Ougai watched as a person who was definitely dead completely ignored him and walked straight towards X, who was sitting on a sofa looking at a summary of the strange incidents that had recently occurred in Yokohama. Clearly, he had come to see this Mr. X.

"manager."

To be honest, when X saw him, he thought it was Rimbaud from this world. After all, the age difference between adults is not as obvious as that between children who are still growing up, especially since he used to be a member of the Port Mafia. Who knew that this Rimbaud was actually looking for him.

Did Adam send you?

“Yes, Mr. Adam asked me to bring a portable containment device, and…”

Mori Ōgai didn't hear the rest of what was said. Rimbaud's voice was very low, probably because he was talking about something confidential.

But as X listened, his expression changed. What did he mean by "all the birds have run away"? Not just the three birds, but even the Flame Sparrow and the Black Swan Dream, which could barely be considered a bird, had appeared?!

The little bird lay sprawled on the supervisor's lap, completely unprepared to fly towards the gates of the Black Forest. It seemed that Bo Ming was still putting in effort even across worlds.

However, the dream of a black swan is a bit tricky...

This anomaly consists of two parts, simply put, Ilya who supports the family and her six brothers who only know how to blink. X is also unaware of the form in which they ran away this time.

“Mr. Mori, I would like you to help me find a monster carrying a parasol, or perhaps six boys.”

The young man, whose house was full of strange things, said this while drawing the monster's approximate shape on a piece of paper with a pen in his hand.

For a moment, the room fell silent. Mori Ōgai and Rimbaud stared in disbelief at the paper with the image of the "Black Swan".

Dazai Osamu stared at the tall, chubby bird created by X, momentarily at a loss for words. And what was that strange flower? Don't tell him it's actually a parasol.

It's not that his drawing is bad, but it looks too much like a child's sketch, and combined with the feeling that the X gives off, it's inexplicably hard to accept.

Unlike the two from the Port Mafia, Rimbaud had seen the black swan with the umbrella. The supervisor's drawing was very similar, but something was off. How did he manage to draw that terrifying monster with a human face so round? This picture could even be included in a children's picture book!

X was still producing, and then the people inside saw it—

It was a chubby black bird with many eyes on its body, a tall, chubby bird with long wings that was blindfolded, and the only bird that was a little thinner.

Is your family a fat bird breeding base?

"Mr. X, are you sure?"

They look like a bunch of cuties!

Next, they saw the children's painting master begin to introduce his chubby birds one by one.

“This one,” the supervisor pointed to the first fat bird with an umbrella, “she will hit people with the umbrella. For an ordinary person, being hit two or three times might be fatal. Her screams can drive people crazy.”

“This one,” he said, pointing to the second large black lump of coal, “it may appear at night, or it may be accompanied by sudden darkness. If it suddenly goes dark or the power goes out, be careful. Don’t approach any lights rashly, or it will bite your head off.”

"This..." Just as the supervisor was about to continue the introduction, he was interrupted by Mori Ougai, who was rubbing his temples. His calm expression was about to crumble.

"Why do you keep these strange...creatures?" He looked at the various kinds of balls, unable to bring himself to say the word "monster".

Just as the supervisor was about to explain to him what clean energy was, the room suddenly plunged into darkness.

Recalling what X had just said, their first thought was that the round bird that looked like a big black lump of coal had arrived!

The next moment, the guard outside came in and reported: "Chief, it seems we've lost power."

Mori Ougai remained silent, turned around and drew back the curtains. Warm sunlight streamed into the room, instantly illuminating it. It turned out that the darkness wasn't caused by the large bird, but simply by someone drawing the curtains and turning on the lights in broad daylight.

The member sent to investigate the cause returned and reported: "Boss, it's not just us, the whole of Yokohama is without power."

X picked up the little bird from his lap and said to Mori Ougai, "Mr. Mori, please contact Commander Taneda and have him inform everyone not to go out tonight. If anyone finds that their family or friends are acting suspiciously, be sure to stop them."

"It's a big bird."

Upon hearing the familiar name, the little bird fluttered its wings and flew up, landing on X's head as if urging him to find its companions.
