"I never said I was mute." Ruan Chen coughed enough and sat down against the door, feeling a little weak.
Yan Qian noticed the deep and shallow scars on her wrists and neck, and her expression changed.
With injuries and claustrophobia, it seems she made a mistake in choosing a somewhat troublesome teammate. Yan Qian sighed inwardly, "Indeed, one shouldn't be too obsessed with looks."
On her way here, she overheard several groups of people discussing a very pretty student who looked easy to bully, and they wanted to include her as one of their targets.
Yan Qian wasn't the type to stand up for others; she was simply curious about how pretty Ruan Chen was, so she approached her and struck up a conversation, eventually unwittingly pulling Ruan Chen into her camp.
After resting for a while, Ruan Chen got up and walked around the safe twice.
The safe was very tall and large, almost as tall as Ruan Chen, with a complex three-layer mechanical combination lock and a stainless steel body.
While Ruan Chen was resting, Yan Qian had been pondering the safe for a long time. "It's definitely not something that can be moved, and it can't be forcibly dismantled either. We can only wait and see if we can get any tools or clues related to the password."
"We don't know when the second floor of the building will open; for now, we only have this one floor for activities."
A brass key hung by the door. Yan Qian took it down, inserted it into the lock, and tested it to make sure it was working. Then she hung the key on her waist and waved to Ruan Chen, "Let's go find something to eat?"
"I'm not hungry yet." Ruan Chen stared intently at the safe and said slowly, "Go ahead. Don't worry—go out by yourself, and whatever food you find is yours. I won't take it from you. Or next time I can go find it by myself, and I definitely won't let you suffer any losses."
Yan Qian looked at her, hesitant to speak. She didn't know whether to say that Ruan Chen was too honest or that she was too realistic.
In the end, she didn't say it aloud, but only told him to take good care of the house.
Ruan Chen glanced at her back. Ruan Chen had seen a lot of the world before at the Ruan family, but she couldn't help but admire Yan Qian's figure. Her dark red curly hair was like a flame dancing.
Also, she said... she has high hopes for "home".
After Yan Qian left, Ruan Chen locked the door and placed her hand on the safe.
She carefully recalled what Fu Jianzhi had said to her yesterday.
“Your mental strength rating is very high, but I can’t tell you exactly how high it is. However, this is your advantage, and you must make good use of your mental strength in this round of trials.”
"Follow my guidance, relax, don't be tense. This is my mental network; follow my instructions..."
"You will feel a blockage when you release your mental energy in the Little White Building tomorrow. This is normal. There are devices under the Little White Building that interfere with mental energy in order to prevent people from cheating with their mental energy. However, this interference will not be a problem for you."
"Because your rating... is really high."
"But there are many outstanding individuals in the Little White Building. They are all geniuses among geniuses, and they have come here only after being selected by their respective systems. Tomorrow, many people will release their mental power, and some will break through the interference. You must hide yourself and not let others discover that you can easily use your mental power in this environment—because otherwise you will become everyone's priority target."
Ruan Chen first cautiously and somewhat awkwardly used his mental energy to probe the surroundings, confirming that there were no other mental networks present, before daring to gradually infiltrate his mental energy into the safe.
Although the safe was made of very sturdy material, it still couldn't completely block out things like mental energy.
This was the first time in Ruan Chen's life that she had used her mental power to "see" things. The feeling was amazing. The internal structure of the safe was clearly presented in Ruan Chen's eyes. She could even "see" the safe's combination based on the structure of the mechanical lock.
Fu Jianzhi was right. Mental power really is like a cheat code here. No wonder he told himself to hide his strengths.
When Yan Qian came in, she saw Ruan Chen still sitting in front of the safe, like an old monk in meditation. She glanced at the mechanical lock of the safe and found that it had been turned. She said, "Don't touch anything if you don't know the password. Be careful, there might be a self-destruct device. Then we'll have nothing left."
Ruan Chen nodded obediently, then nervously adjusted the thing on her side further.
She actually took two, but she didn't know whether she should give one to Yan Qian.
Here, she only trusts Fu Jianzhi, but Fu Jianzhi said that she shouldn't trust anyone here.
She saw that Yan Qian had returned empty-handed, with a gloomy expression and several bloodstains on her body.
Yan Qian noticed Ruan Chen staring at the blood on her body and explained, "It was splattered on me."
Ruan Chen nodded, thought for a moment, and asked, "Are you alright?"
The tone of concern was very stiff.
She doesn't quite know how to care for others, nor how to accept care from others.
Yan Qian didn't care. "I'm fine. I just didn't get anything. There's already a chaotic fight outside. They're fighting like crazy. I heard from previous students that it usually takes three to five days before there's bloodshed. I don't know what's going on with our class."
"Someone must have discovered something very useful, right?" Ruan Chen guessed, following Yan Qian's train of thought.
Yan Qian thought for a moment, "Probably? But it has nothing to do with us. We don't even have weapons, just a cabinet that can't be opened. Even if it's an armory, we can only watch."
Upon hearing the words "armory," Ruan Chen coughed twice instinctively and reached for the keys at Yan Qian's waist. "I'll go take a look. We can't go hungry."
Ruan Chen didn't even eat breakfast.
"Oh, then together."
“I’ll go myself,” Ruan Chen said. “You went just now, so it’s fair that I go now.”
Yan Qian didn't expect Ruan Chen to be so stubborn, but seeing the obstinacy in Ruan Chen's eyes, she didn't say anything. "Let's take a walk and come back. I guess there's not much on the first floor. Nobody has bought anything. Now we're just waiting for the second floor to open."
Ruan Chen left the room where she was sheltering herself and walked straight towards the room with the most people.
The third room on the west side of the hall had its door open, and two groups of medical staff were performing first aid measures at the door. Behind them, a brutal melee was taking place.
It's absurd, yet it makes perfect sense.
Everyone else stayed far away from this room—there were originally two people in this room, but they somehow discovered something and ended up fighting amongst themselves, both getting seriously injured. What they found benefited the people who were searching the unclaimed rooms one by one.
But before this person could even warm up the item, the fourth student saw it and forcibly snatched it from him.
"Hey, hello, I want to ask, what are you fighting over?" Ruan Chen walked straight over, politely knocked on the door, and looked at the two people inside whose faces were covered in blood.
