Hearing the massive iron door of Restaurant B slam shut, Ye Xi's heart tightened, her body trembled even more violently, and she took larger strides. She so desperately wished she could be taller, but that was impossible. And her physical condition was damn bad!
Ye Xi could feel the chilling aura behind her growing ever closer—a sign that her death was imminent. Normally, shaking off the Licker would have been relatively easy, as there were narrow passages the Licker couldn't easily pass through. Danger suddenly approached, and before Ye Xi could even think, she bent over and rolled on the ground. But she was still too slow. Ye Xi looked at her bloody shoulder and her face contorted in pain. The licker's tongue had barbs, so even a scratch would tear off a few pieces of flesh.
The lickers, having tasted the blood, became even more excited and chased Ye Xi faster and faster. The pain almost made her faint, but the will to survive kept her going. She gritted her teeth, and even though her legs were almost numb from running, and even though a metallic taste filled her throat, she kept spurring herself on—she must not give up. Ye Xi, you have struggled for so long, you can definitely make it through this time too!
As the entrance became increasingly tight, Ye Xi felt a surge of joy. It was as if she had regained her strength. She scrambled up the cabinet she had used as a stepping stone, rolled into the entrance she had blown up, and continued rolling to the side without hesitation.
As she expected, a long, bright red tongue covered in an unknown sticky substance suddenly pierced through the doorway and slammed into the metal wall, causing a large dent.
Ye Xi's heart skipped a beat, but she still drew her dagger and slashed the Licker's still-retracted, softest tongue. Blood immediately gushed out. After hearing the Licker scream, Ye Xi immediately stood up and ran wildly into the depths of the passage—that move was sure to enrage the Licker and make it follow her in…
Ye Xi, the protagonist of this story, has exceptionally good luck, and it proved her right. The Licker screamed and immediately jumped into the entrance, relentlessly chasing after her. Ye Xi was now almost exhausted, only able to persevere thanks to her cockroach-like willpower, so her speed was much slower than before. Fortunately, the passage was rather narrow for the Licker, forcing it to move along the walls, further reducing its speed. Because the passage was so narrow, it couldn't turn around and leave once inside; the only exit was the one leading to the park where it was surrounded by Umbrella Corporation personnel.

I can't accelerate any further, so I can only slow down the Licker. Ye Xi glanced at the Licker behind her out of the corner of her eye. It probably understood that once it entered this passage, it couldn't turn back, so it had no worries now and was only focused on killing the human in front of it who had brought it into this situation, then drinking her blood, eating her flesh, and evolving.
Its hide is quite thick, making it difficult to inflict much damage with a pistol; only a high-powered machine gun can do the work. However, machine gun ammunition is limited, and with my aiming accuracy, it's unlikely I can hit its four constantly moving paws. Furthermore, I'm more likely to provoke it and cause it to accelerate rather than slow down…
But if things continue like this, we'll die sooner or later, so we might as well fight now! As the Licker drew ever closer, Ye Xi gritted her teeth—"Don't even think about eating me! I'll never die by your hand!" She forcefully pulled out her arm, which, unsurprisingly, was now covered in blood from the barbed tongue. Ignoring the excruciating pain that threatened to make her faint, she pulled the iron rod that had been with her from behind and, screaming, shoved it into the Licker's tongue.
The Licker screamed shrilly, and Ye Xi felt the pressure that had been pressing against her chest suddenly disappear. She immediately scrambled forward and continued running.
Because an iron rod had stuck to its tongue, it couldn't retract it and could only limply protrude. What was once a sharp weapon had instantly become a blunt knife, not only hindering the licker's progress but also impairing its vision, thus slowing it down. Although it desperately wanted to tear the human in front of it to pieces, the human, more resilient than a cockroach, left it speechless with despair—damn it, it hadn't killed her, but had gotten itself all injured; who knew how many times that damned tongue had tripped it up!
Of course, the Licker wouldn't think that way, but if someone encountered a tenacious enemy or prey like Ye Xi, they would only go crazy.

By this time, Ye Xi was already swaying precariously, but she still stood up straight with unwavering determination, clutching her homemade anesthetic tightly in her hand.
Perhaps finding it strange that its fleeing prey had suddenly stopped, the Licker also halted, creating a stalemate with Ye Xi. This time, Ye Xi made the first move, pulling out her machine gun without hesitation and firing at it. Provoked, the Licker immediately lunged at Ye Xi, but she dodged to the side, then raised her arm holding the syringe and plunged it into the Licker's tongue, injecting all the anesthetic.
The licker struggled for a while, then collapsed with a thud.
"Phew..." Ye Xi breathed a sigh of relief, her body going limp. She immediately grabbed the wall to keep herself from collapsing. Now was not the time to fall. When the Licker woke up, the first thing it would see was her, so she had to get behind it... Wait, how did she get it to break down this door? Ye Xi weakly looked at the exit door. Despite her strong desire for the outside world, she remained rational.
"Use blood." With that thought, Ye Xi smeared her blood on the door, then climbed onto the Licker's body, crawled up its back, and walked nearly twenty meters backward before finally feeling relieved. She collapsed to the ground and fainted...
Ye Xi woke up in agony. She had experienced this kind of agonizing pain before, in the weapons room, which meant she was beginning to evolve again. However, this time the pain was significantly more severe than before. Was it because she had been infected with a larger amount of the T-virus?

The licker twitched a few more times, then slowly and unsteadily stood up. It had clearly noticed the bloodstains on the door, and its thirst for blood drove it to ram into it—the door opened! Ye Xi looked at the light-filled doorway, a surge of emotion rising within her. She unconsciously took a step forward, but before she could take a second step, the sound of gunfire outside the door brought her back to her senses.
"Hmph, the Lickers and the Umbrella Corporation are really fighting." Ye Xi couldn't help but let a bright smile spread across her face. She cautiously moved to the doorway, peeking out with one eye. Her eyes, long accustomed to darkness, couldn't withstand the bright sunlight, but Ye Xi stubbornly kept them wide open. After a brief period of blindness, she finally saw the outside world—
Several corpses in military uniforms lay on the ground, covered in blood. This was the first gruesome scene Ye Xi had witnessed since regaining her color vision, and it startled her. She quickly reassured herself—it's just a change from green to red, right? Yeah, don't be afraid…

Then, she slowly took a grenade from her waist, pulled the pin, and immediately threw it towards the direction of the chaotic battle—
With a loud "boom," the area where the battle had taken place was enveloped in smoke. When the smoke cleared, not a single person was standing.
Holding a gun, Ye Xi approached the Licker step by step. Those who attacked it were certainly dead, but Ye Xi wasn't so sure about the Licker itself. Reaching its side, she looked at the grotesque creature convulsing; its color had turned a pale pink, meaning it was near death. Ye Xi snorted coldly and fired a shot into its head. Its color returned to normal.
Looking at the monster that had left a deep impression on her, Ye Xi sighed that it was good to restore her visual colors; it looked so much more realistic that way.
"Goodbye, my brief comrade-in-arms." Ye Xi sighed softly, patted the Licker's cold body, and walked into the distance.
What lies in the distance? Ye Xi doesn't know, but she will still keep walking, keep walking, in order to barely survive in this world, and head towards the distance...
