Chapter 6 Wedding

Chapter 6 Wedding

[Wedding: It is often located at the two extremes of a story, sometimes as the ending of a fairy tale and sometimes as the beginning of a novel. 】

Turning the wedding into a family gathering saves time and effort. However, under Fu Guanshan's strong protest, Meng Chu was forced to give up the "clothes that should only be worn fifty years later" in the closet, dress up, and greet guests at the door.

Although there were two people welcoming the guests together, he actually only served as a mascot. From greetings, introductions, pouring wine, to livening up the place and adjusting the atmosphere, it all depended on Fu Guanshan alone. Meng Chu stood by, and apart from occasionally agreeing and smiling, he was no different from a wooden stake.

His research progress was tight, and Fu Guanshan also took time out from his shooting schedule to rush back. He came to greet guests with a smile as bright as a sunny day right after getting off the plane and before he could even take a break.

Meng Chu looked at his back and felt very grateful.

Dinner parties have always been Meng Chu's favorite. Not only was he unable to toast or strike up a conversation naturally, he couldn't even figure out the seating order between the host and the guest. In the past, if his father took them out to eat with others, Meng Jining would usually have to give him some pointers before he knew what to say.

Thinking of this, Meng Chu raised his head unconsciously and looked at the crowd coming in.

There was no familiar figure among them.

After Fu Guanshan finalized the drinks arrangements with the waiter, he took his arm as his legal partner and said, "Everyone is here, come in."

Meng Chu said "Okay", turned and walked in. Before closing the door, he looked towards the corridor again.

Really didn’t come.

After sitting down, a conversation quickly broke out at the table as Fu Guanshan asked detailed and thoughtful questions. His personality is obviously inherited from his family. His mother Fu Lanying is as enthusiastic and cheerful as the host of the Spring Festival Gala. She started with a full emotional value: "I heard that Xiao Meng's younger brother is also a top student. Both brothers are so outstanding. How did your in-laws educate their children?"

Meng Chu's father, Meng Changqing, obviously often hears similar compliments, and he fluently gives a modest response: "In fact, I didn't contribute much, the child learned it all by himself."

"I'm so envious," Fu Lanying looked at Fu Guanshan meaningfully, "He's different from some people who disappear during holidays."

Fu Guanshan frowned in dissatisfaction: "Can't you tell me about my glorious deeds after I became famous?"

"When he was in school," Fu Lanying ignored him, "he held parties, played guitar, played basketball, played games, and did everything except study. I used all kinds of tricks, both hard and soft, but I couldn't persuade him. If I had a child like Xiao Meng, I would wake up laughing in my dreams."

Meng Changqing replied politely: "You're too kind. Meng Chu is a bookworm, but Xiao Fu is a generalist, he is interested in everything, so he has a bright future."

"Alas, what kind of generalist? He just likes to play. In fact, he can't do anything well. He was like this when he was a child. He insisted on learning to play the drums, but after a few months, he gave up when he was no longer interested," Fu Lanying said. "Has Xiao Meng ever taken any interest classes? He is definitely not a person who gets excited after only three minutes, right?"

"He..." Meng Changqing glanced at Meng Chu, "He doesn't have any hobbies. Jining did learn singing and guitar, and joined clubs, but he just kept doing homework."

"No wonder," Fu Lanying found the point of praise smoothly, "You have to have this kind of research spirit to be suitable for scientific research. Oh, it's so good for the child to be quiet. You don't know how much trouble this guy can cause. A classmate in his class was bullied by the principal's son. The school didn't admit it, but he organized a protest march and hung a banner at the school gate. He was directly expelled. That was in the third year of high school! I asked people for help everywhere, and I ran my legs off before I found a school for him. Xiao Meng has never caused you any trouble, right?"

"Well, Mengchu has always been very sensible," Meng Changqing said, "Jining is more worrying than him. His grades were a roller coaster in the third year of junior high school, and he even said he wanted to be a singer in high school. But he also knew that his family didn't have much money, so he went to school anyway."

Meng Chu lowered his head and took a sip of tea. As expected, my father then started to talk about Meng Jining’s entry into investment banking.

Sure enough, Meng Changqing didn't even take a breath as he continued to narrate his youngest son's brilliant career: "When he was in college, he did internships outside every winter and summer vacation. The company he joined after graduation only hired him as an undergraduate. No one in our family knows anything about internal rate of return or capital multiples. I don't know from whom he inherited the genes..."

When it comes to Meng Jining, my father always has a lot to say.

Meng Chu had also talked about what patents he had obtained many times at home, but it never left an impression.

Biological sons are different.

After listening to the financial circle, Fu Lanying said flatteringly, "How great! The career of a singer is so difficult, it is safer to study. I also want Guan Shan to study more, but unfortunately he is not cut out for it."

"Isn't this a good development?" Meng Chu's father said, "You envy me. Parents all over the country envy you."

"Well, how should I put it? This line of work depends mainly on luck," Fu Lanying patted her son on the shoulder. "This guy is very good at causing trouble. I have been worried since I entered this circle. Now it's good. Finally, there is someone who can control him." She looked at Meng Chu, "Xiao Meng, I'll leave it to you from now on."

Fu Guanshan protested, “How can I be so troublesome?” Meng Chu met the parent’s gaze, felt that he should respond, and nodded.

He knew he should say something polite at this moment, but he didn't know what to say. He was not like the mother and son next to him, who could always find a comfortable way to communicate.

He was very grateful to Fu Lanying. She kept thinking about her student days, because during that time, Meng Chu was a child of destiny, while Fu Guanshan was just a troublesome thorn.

She neither mentioned Fu Guanshan's glorious acting history nor his fame and assets, but only focused on Meng Chu's areas of strength.

Even so, Meng Chu still feels that Fu Guanshan as described by Fu Lanying is very charming.

A social expert who is at ease in school, has talents, is good at sports, and has the courage to stand up for classmates and talk back to his superiors.

He would never be able to do any of these.

"Uncle," Fu Guanshan said to Meng Changqing, "I'm really not that bad. I'm a good cook. What does Meng Chu like to eat at home? I can cook it for him."

Meng Chu's father met Fu Guanshan's sincere gaze, paused for a few seconds, and said, "We just cook casually at home. Meng Chu...is not picky about food."

"Look," Fu Lanying said, "Little Meng is not as troublesome as you. He doesn't eat bamboo shoots, onions, mushrooms, or wild rice stems."

"If it weren't for my trouble, I wouldn't have learned to cook for myself."

Fu Lanying shook her head in disgust, then turned to the opposite side and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, I've been the one who's been working so hard. In the past few years, I've been hoping that Guanshan could settle down sooner. It happened so soon. I'm so excited."

"Ah..." Meng Chu's father and uncle looked at each other and said, "We also felt it was quite sudden. We always thought Ji Ning would be the one to get married first, but in the end..."

There was hesitation in the elders' eyes, and it was obvious that this marriage was unbelievable to them.

Meng Chu also knew that for someone like him, who had never been in a relationship and whose only social partners were laboratory machines, it was too bizarre for him to have a flash marriage with a big star.

"Oh, it's all my fault," Fu Guanshan said. "I was going to look for my aunt, and I met him on the way. I fell in love with him at first sight."

Meng Chu choked on a mouthful of water and started coughing loudly. Fu Guanshan reached out and patted him on the back.

"After I met him, I pestered him and asked my aunt to use her status as a big boss to coerce and bribe him into having dinner with me. I pursued him too closely and he had to agree to a flash marriage with me. This scared all the elders. I'll punish myself with a drink first."

Meng Chu stared with wide eyes, watching Fu Guanshan drink the wine in one gulp, then stood up and filled his father and uncle's glasses.

"Originally, I wanted to make the wedding grander, but Mengchu is very busy, so I invited all the elders first," he said, "When he is free, we will go on a trip to get married. First fly to Paris, then to Venice, and then to Türkiye to ride the hot air balloon..."

The two were obviously still in a daze. Meng Chu looked at their shocked expressions, and the disappointment caused by the previous conversation suddenly disappeared.

Yes, isn’t this what he expects from this dinner party? Isn’t this the fundamental reason why he agreed to hold the wedding banquet?

An extremely handsome guy announced in public that he fell in love with him at first sight.

He had never had such a major victory in the interpersonal field.

Even if it was fake, his vanity was satisfied.

This happiness lasted until the end of the dinner. The newlyweds sent their relatives to the door and discussed how to arrange a car.

"How about Dad stay one more night?" Meng Chu said, "It's a rare trip to Lincheng, why don't you come to our house and have a look? Dad hasn't seen the new house we bought yet, right? I'll book a hotel nearby, take you to visit Linda tomorrow, and then send you back."

"No need, I have an appointment with Lao Liu to play cards tonight," Meng Changqing said, "just go back and have a rest."

Meng Chu urged him again and again, and Fu Guanshan also agreed with him, but his father kept shaking his head and said no.

The brief joy just now subsided and turned into bubbles floating on the water. Meng Chu tried his best to keep it going for a little longer: "Then I'll take you to the station..."

"We can just take a taxi," his father said. "Why are you making this trip for nothing? Let's just break up here."

Meng Chu wanted to say something, but his father waved his hand and an online-hailing car stopped in front of him. It was obvious that the car had been called in advance.

Meng Changqing reached out to the car door, and suddenly seemed to remember something, and turned around: "Do you know what Jining is busy with recently? He never calls home."

Meng Chu was silent for a moment, then said, "He hasn't contacted me during this period."

"I see..." Meng Changqing sighed, "It seems like I'm too busy."

Just like that, the bubble completely dissipated and the turbulent emotions returned to calm.

"I'll ask him later." Meng Chu said.

He watched his father and his uncle's family get into the car, which started and soon disappeared.

He turned around and saw Fu Guanshan preparing to send his relatives off.

He is tall and strong, and standing next to his mother and aunt, the three of them can form a wifi signal.

The two sisters were chatting about family matters. Fu Yanping said the reason why she didn't bring her daughter with her, with a worried look on her face: "We are in a cold war."

"From the cold war during winter break to now?"

"Please judge for yourself," Fu Yanping said. "She told me that she had finished her winter vacation homework a long time ago. When I checked it, I found that it was all scribbled. I said something to her, but she was very confident and said that the teacher would not check it carefully and that the students just copied from each other. Why did she bother to do that?"

"And then?" Fu Lanying said, "You have such a bad temper, you must have exploded."

"Didn't I just tell her not to go out and play for the last few days and to finish her homework at home? But she got into a fight with me!" Fu Yanping glared at her husband, "This guy is not on my side."

Her husband coughed and said, "I am not a good person on both sides."

"Why are you feeling wronged? I read books with her and helped her with her homework, but you just spoiled her and made me dote on her. As a result, the child is close to you and is in a cold war with me."

"I advise you to find a way out as soon as possible," Fu Lanying said, "When parents go to war with their children, how can they not lose?"

For some reason, this sentence shocked Meng Chu deeply.

He had never met the girl before, but he couldn't help but envy her.

I envy her for having the confidence to go to war with her parents, and I envy her for having a group of family members who assume that she will win in the end.
