Chapter 280 The Witch God Festival (17) Selection

After sitting at the door for a long time, Su Deng realized that the reason why Tsunomiya Riki wasn't here wasn't because she was special.

It's possible that she wasn't kidnapped by the demons at all, but was taken away by the Snow Child.

Acha kept calling anxiously, but Su Deng said listlessly, "It's no use calling."

Acha meowed and rubbed against her, her sapphire-like eyes filled with tears, as if she were crying.

"What can I do?" Su Deng was so frustrated she wanted to destroy the world.

Acha let out two more low sobs, then lifted her foot and left the dilapidated shrine.

Su Deng didn't chase after them. The task of rescuing the witch candidate wasn't said to be mandatory, nor was there any punishment for failure.

As for Riki Ninomiya, even though they've gotten along well these past few days, she doesn't have any deep feelings for Riki Ninomiya.

Anyway, she won't die, and she even became an executor of the Divine Court.

After sitting at the entrance for a while, Su Deng got up and left.

As she walked down the mountain from the dilapidated shrine, the thick fog that had obscured the path dissipated, and the low lamps along the roadside lit up one by one, emitting a halo of light.

Su Deng didn't try to hide or dodge as she had when she arrived; she swaggered around, while the ghosts and monsters of Ghost Mist Village remained silent and eerily quiet.

She even found a house, opened the door, and saw that no one was inside.

There were one or two little ghosts by the roadside, hopping and skipping around very lively.

Su Deng greeted them, but they acted as if they hadn't heard her.

"They can't hear."

As Su Deng tried to talk to the fifth ghost she encountered, a childish voice came from behind her.

Su Deng turned around and saw a child hiding by the wall a few meters away. The child had black hair, two small horns on his head, and reddish skin, including his face. His left cheek had a patch of fine, strange patterns that seemed to grow automatically from his flesh.

Like a little devil.

"Don't be afraid! I'm not a bad person!" He quickly said when he saw Su Deng staring at him. "I won't hurt you!"

Su Deng sized him up, paused, and then asked, "Are you the Red Demon?"

In the monster trigger section, the description of the Oni race emphasizes the Red Oni and the Blue Oni, with the Red Oni being the same as this child.

The child nodded and came out from the corner. "My name is Cui Tai."

Su Deng raised an eyebrow: "What about the other ghosts in your village?"

"They..." the child shrank back, "...were killed."

Su Deng: "?"

She'd only been here a short time, less than two hours, and all those demons in the village... had they all been killed?

"Who killed them?" Su Deng's heart skipped a beat, she had a guess, but she still asked, "Why did they kill them?"

Suita said nervously and somewhat fearfully, "He is a samurai with dark green hair and wearing a celestial fox mask."

...It really was him!

Su Deng's eyes darkened: "Why did he kill these ghosts?"

Suita shrank her neck: "That samurai was terrifying; he didn't say anything."

He paused, then added in a low voice, "Those he killed were all evil spirits. Those spirits kept coming down the mountain to rob human women and food, destroying and causing chaos among humans. It's no pity they died..."

Su Deng looked at him: "Then why didn't he kill you?"

"I..." Suita hesitated, "I'm a good ghost!"

The demons who hadn't done anything wrong weren't killed; they were just frightened by him and all went into hiding.

Su Deng asked thoughtfully, "Then what are you doing running out here?"

“I…” Cui Tai muttered, “I think you’re human…”

Red Oni always wanted to be friends with humans, but the Oni race had a bad reputation. No matter how sincere Red Oni was, no human dared to believe him, play with him, or accept him.

Su Deng remembered this.

“We are not the same as those evil spirits…” Cui Tai whispered, “We want to live in peace with humans…”

But getting humans to accept the infamous Oni race is harder than climbing to heaven.

“They kidnapped the shrine maiden candidates and are going to hold a parade of a hundred demons tomorrow. I was planning to secretly rescue them when I saw you…” Suita really wanted to be friends with humans, so he told the truth.

He originally intended to save the witch candidates who had been kidnapped by evil spirits, thus proving to humanity that he was a good ghost.

This was an idea Qing Gui gave him, but Su Deng beat him to it.

Su Deng chuckled: "So, I stole your job?"

Cui Tai quickly shook her head: "No, no, no!"

Since all the evil spirits have been killed, the remaining ghosts here, even if they haven't done anything evil, shouldn't have any clues for the game.

Whether or not Riki was taken away by Yuki-dō, she won't die. Today's incident won't have any impact. We'll see what happens at the Shrine Maiden Selection Festival tomorrow.

Su Deng glanced back at the eerie and sinister Ghost Mist Village, then stepped out of the village.

Cui Tai watched her retreating figure, opened his mouth as if to say something, but didn't say anything, and finally lowered his head in disappointment.

"Hmph!" Another child, who looked similar to him but had blue skin, came out from behind the house and sneered, "I knew humans could never accept the demon race."

Cui Tai pouted: "But I really want to be friends with humans."

The blue demon child looked at him, something flashing in his eyes, but he finally said, "I have another idea!"

Cui Tai looked up, her eyes shining: "Really?"

The blue demon nodded.

*

There was another child peeking, which Su Deng sensed, but since Yan Sizhan hadn't killed any of the evil spirits, it didn't affect her, and she didn't want to bother with it.

She didn't go straight back to the Witch Water Courtyard, but went to the Firefly Forest.

Su Muye sat on a rock in front of Zaohu's Little Fox Club, eating a bag of dorayaki, taking a bite himself and then a bite from the little fox beside him.
