Chapter 13: Mountain Spring Jujube Soup

"What are you doing? Playing in the mud?" I asked.

With a chuckle, the three girls laughed out loud at the same time!

I was confused and didn't understand what they meant. Yunwen put the things away, walked over and whispered in my ear: "Zhou Bo, she is not a three-year-old child, how can she play with mud? It was Yingchun who saw that there was water and soil, so she planned to make a mix. After baking, she can make an earthen jar, which will make it much more convenient for us to drink water and store water."

"This is pottery art. Do you understand it? It's just old-fashioned." Song Yingchun shook her head.

"I know it's pottery, but I never thought you could do it." I tried to save face.

"Why? I know a lot of things. Do I have to report each of them to you?" Song Yingchun said.

"Okay, let me see how good your skills are and see if you really know how to do it or if you're just playing in the mud." I said.

"I'm too lazy to tell you." Song Yingchun turned away and started to shape a relatively flat stone with her hands, adjusting it with stone chips from time to time. It looked quite realistic.

Song Bailu continued to mix the water and soil with her hands.

I'd like to see what she can come up with.

Forget about her, I had to get busy on my end. These dry branches were not enough, so I ran back to the woods to find some more. During this time, I came back to measure the height of the rock where I was sheltering from the rain. It was just below my nose, which is about 20 centimeters less. The height was about 160~170cm, and the protruding part was about 1m.

I wrote the data down on the ground and started to draw some rough designs. The drawings were ugly and I guess only I could understand them, but I made do with it.

The number of branches was still not enough, so I had to chop more with my bayonet. It took me a whole day just to prepare the raw materials.

I brought back about 20 vines of different lengths. I also went to the edge of the cliff and found some vines nearby, so I cut a lot of them and carried them back.

When I got home in the evening, the picture I drew on the ground was already blurry. I had been busy all day and had forgotten some of it. I was trying hard to remember it, but Yunwen came over, broke off a twig, and carved it on the ground very neatly, horizontally and vertically. It was straighter than a ruler. According to what I drew in the afternoon, she basically remembered it all, completely restored it, and marked the data.

"You remember everything?" I asked in disbelief.

"When we were training at the airline, we were asked to remember the requirements and images of every passenger so that we could carry out our work. So we were specially trained to strengthen our memory and were taught some note-taking techniques, so I wrote them all down." Zhang Yunwen smiled sweetly.

"Oh, finally you're not just a decorative vase anymore." Song Yingchun's sour voice came from behind.

I was too lazy to pay attention to her. I started to organize and cut the branches according to some data I designed today, trying to make each branch the same as the data and neat. I didn't expect Yunwen to have a surprise for me. She had prepared a piece of stone early. After grinding, it had some serrations and was extremely flat on both sides, like a small sharp blade. After she wrote down the data, she also helped me cut and remove unnecessary things on the branches.

Everyone was working and soon their stomachs started growling. I asked Song Bailu to prepare something to eat. She was well versed in pharmacology and the so-called food and medicine have the same origin. It was absolutely safe and nourishing to let her prepare the food.

Yunwen and I are working here like an assembly line, which gets a bit boring after a while, so I just observe what Song Bailu is doing.

I saw her taking out the jujubes, placing them on a cleaned stone that was concave like a basin, watering and washing them with spring water to wash off some of the mud, and then putting them in a plastic box of biscuits in her bag. She also washed the wild vegetable roots and put them in a plastic food bag. She took out a few red dates from the bag, removed the cores, placed them on the stone, and repeatedly beat them with a flat stone. I didn't know what she was doing.

Not long after, I saw Song Yingchun coming over with an earthenware basin that looked like a basin. It was charred black in color and looked in good shape. It had indeed become the shape of a jar or urn. She stuck out her tongue at me and went to get a few small bowls.

I had to stand up again and look over there. I didn't expect that Song Yingchun had quietly followed my method of roasting crabs and built a high-temperature stove with stones. She used the high temperature to quickly shape the earthen pots and bowls.

After Song Bailu washed the earthenware bowls and jars with spring water, she began her cooking.

I saw her build a stove with stones, put an earthenware pot on it, pour water into the pot with an earthenware bowl, then break up some wild vegetable roots and put them in to cook. After the water boiled, she sprinkled some dried flower petals, herbs and the like, and then poured the mashed red dates into it. After taking it out of the pot, she poured some intact red dates into it for decoration.

The fragrant smell actually reminded me of my hometown...

"How about it? I said unity is strength. Do you believe it now?" Yunwen smiled at me.

I have to say that everyone has their own strengths, which is good. The instructor once told us that only by uniting as one and giving full play to our strengths can we be invincible. Now that I think about it, he was absolutely right.

After a hard day's work, a bowl of mountain spring red date soup, served with some roasted mountain fruits and some red dates, was quite tasty, especially for me. I almost wanted to cry while eating it.

But no matter what, these things are not enough to fill you up. You have to find a way to hunt some wild animals to ensure everyone has a balanced nutrition, which is the way to survive in the long run.

I was eating red dates and thinking about these things when Song Yingchun coughed and said, "Hey, aren't you going to praise me? I made all the dishes you guys made, didn't I?"

"Yingchun is awesome! You must have learned it before, right?" Yunwen hurriedly praised.

"I'm asking him to praise me, why are you joining in the fun?" Song Yingchun shouted.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I didn't know why she was so fussy about it, but I immediately praised her: "Okay, crazy girl, you have made a contribution to the team. Not bad, you deserve praise."

"Is that it?" Song Yingchun's face was full of disappointment.

"Okay, Yingchun, everyone has seen it, let's eat quickly." Song Bailu comforted.

Song Yingchun pouted, looking unhappy. She put the bowl down and turned away. I looked at Bai Lu, and she shook her head and said, "It's okay. She just thinks that it might sound better when you exaggerate Yunwen."

I didn't think it was a big deal, so I said, "Song Yingchun, you are amazing. I am impressed by you."

Her complexion improved a little, she coughed, and said, "Stewardess, did you hear me? I'm also very good, hum..."

Seeing that she was still laughing secretly, I could only sigh silently in my heart. Zhang Yunwen was not willing to argue with her.

"Yes, yes, Yingchun is the best." Zhang Yunwen smiled professionally.

After dinner, I arranged the shifts. Tonight I was the first, Yunwen was second, Bailu was third, and Yingchun was fourth. This way we could minimize the interactions between Yunwen and Yingchun, and also prevent anyone on the fourth shift from cheating and putting us in danger.

There was no objection to the arrangement, so they packed up and went to sleep. They cleared a little space under the rocks to shelter from the rain, spread some hay, and put on their coats. It was the first time for the three girls to sleep together.

While I was on duty, I continued to work on the firewood. I was so sleepy in the middle of the night that I asked Yunwen to take over. I said a few unimportant words to her before going to bed and then went to bed. There was no conversation that night.

I slept until the sun was shining on my face during the day, and I was freezing cold. It was so cold that no one could stand it, except those who could sleep well. So today I had to get out of the house, so that I could suffer like this...
