Chapter 1 Meteorite Falls from the Sky

Leng Fengmei picked up her phone and dialed the number; a ringtone sounded!

"You are my little apple, how can I love you..."

"Hey! When are you coming back?" Song Chengyang was a slowpoke, and Leng Fengmei was already used to having preconceived notions about him.

"You guys eat first, my car broke down, it'll be a while..."

Putting down her phone, Leng Fengmei went to get the bowls and chopsticks, calling out, "Dinner, kids, don't forget to wash your hands!"

Serve the rice first so it won't be too hot for the children to eat later; serve a little bit of the vegetables as well.

I feel like I haven't done much work, but my clothes are soaked with sweat, and I have no energy at all. Sigh! I had to tell my eldest daughter, "Watch your sister eat, Mom will rest for a while."

“Okay, Mom, you go ahead, I'll take care of my little sister,” Hanhan said obediently.

My eldest daughter is pretty good in every way except for not liking to study. At least compared to those kids who fall in love too early, rebel, or commit suicide due to depression, I should be content!

Lying in bed, I kept wiping the sweat from my face with tissues.

It felt a little better, but then I felt a tightness in my chest, and my eyelids kept twitching.

Leng Fengmei was really angry—angry at herself! She thought to herself, "This wretched body of mine isn't finished yet!"

When I opened the window again, a cold wind rushed in, carrying with it the smell of car exhaust.

I thought to myself that the air quality was really bad today, and I had to take deep breaths, but it still felt like there was a big rock stuck in my chest, and I couldn't get any air out.

I especially miss my childhood. Back then, the environment wasn't polluted, and we drank water from deep wells—clear, sweet, and the air was always fresh. The most unforgettable time was the transition from spring to summer. After a heavy rain, the air was filled with the scent of earth mixed with grass.

Unlike now, although we don't have to worry about food and drink, there's always a sense of lifelessness!

"Mommy's here, I want Mommy to stay with me!" Leng Fengmei's youngest daughter interrupted her reminiscence while she was eating.

Leng Fengmei was also helpless with her clingy youngest daughter.

"Here you are, here you are, I've come to see how much my baby has eaten!" She always tries her best to control her emotions in front of the children.

"Mommy's not here, I have no appetite!" Xin Xin pouted and said in a sweet, coquettish voice. Even if it was just a tantrum, it could melt your heart.

"Mom's with you, eat more!" Leng Fengmei smiled as she ate with her two children.

After serving food to her younger daughter, she instructed her older daughter, "Hanhan, eat more vegetables, don't just eat meat!"

The sound of a key turning in the lock rang out, and Xin's father came in wearing a helmet. She got up and went to get another set of bowls and chopsticks.

"I'm done eating!" The eldest daughter rushed back to her room in a hurry.

Seeing that he was playing on his phone again, I didn't want to get angry, so I just ignored it.

"Daddy's home!" the little girl said slowly.

"Oh, you're back." Seeing his little darling, he immediately smiled!

Leng Fengmei finished eating quickly. "You guys eat, I'm going to rest for a bit."

I don't know why I'm so tired today, I break out in a sweat as soon as I move!

Watching the father and daughter chatting and laughing, Leng Fengmei closed the bedroom door; she wanted to "have some peace and quiet."

The heating hasn't been working well these past few days, but I still have to open the windows to let in some fresh air, otherwise I feel so stuffy I can't breathe. I just broke out in a sweat and felt a chill, so I put on a thick coat and took a deep breath. My chest felt like it was on fire. Looking at the gloomy sky, it must be going to snow!

In winter, darkness falls early, and the streetlights and the lights of thousands of homes illuminate this night that should be pitch black!

The brightest star in the sky has remained unchanged for decades, while I have grown old!

Suddenly, a brilliant shooting star appeared in the sky and disappeared in an instant.

It's rare to see a shooting star; it's been so many years since I've seen one. It's not that there haven't been any, but I haven't had the time.

She clasped her hands together and prayed silently: "I hope my two daughters will have a healthy and peaceful life!"

"Hehe, if only wishes could come true!" A bittersweet smile crept onto her lips.

The wind was getting stronger, and Leng Fengmei casually closed the window. She had just turned around to see if they had finished eating when she heard a crisp "whoosh" behind her!

A sudden, sharp pain shot through my back, and my heart felt like it was about to leap out of my chest!

She wanted to turn around and look, but her body was out of her control!

"What's wrong?" Dad rushed over anxiously, followed by Da Bao and Xiao Bao.

Judging from their shocked expressions, something extraordinary must have happened outside the window...

Loud noises kept coming from outside. Leng Fengmei was both anxious and frightened. "What's that? Could it be a war?"

I wanted to turn back, but my whole body felt numb with pain! This pain seemed to connect to every nerve!

Leng Fengmei's lips trembled as she squeezed out a few words, "It hurts, um, it hurts!"

With a pull from her father, she finally lost her balance and fell forward.

Fortunately, Song Chengyang helped her up.

But Leng Fengmei was too fat. Her heavy body made her kneel on the ground, and the shards of glass pierced her knees. "Ah!" she couldn't help but cry out.

"Shooting stars, so many shooting stars!" Xiao Bao's childish voice rang out.

"Quick! Get downstairs and get out of here!" Dad shouted anxiously.

Bang! The building shook violently. "Earthquake!" Leng Fengmei, with a strength she didn't know she had, pushed her father away.

He yelled loudly, "Dress the child! Take the child downstairs and hide! Hurry up!"

This is the sixth floor! If someone gets hit by a falling object, they'll definitely die!

Then, Xin's father picked up a cotton-padded coat and put it on Xin. "Hanhan, hurry up and put on your clothes. Hurry up and carry your sister downstairs. I'll carry Mom on my back!"

"Go quickly, don't worry about me!" Leng Fengmei shouted.

He dragged his heavy body forward on both arms, shouting, "Quick! Don't worry about me, I'll carry the baby downstairs!"

Leng Fengmei moved forward with difficulty. She was too fat, and her father was over forty years old. How could he possibly carry her?

"I'll carry you!" came Dad's anxious voice.

Another impact, and "crash!" That was the sound of glass shattering!

Just then, the child's piercing cries rang out. "It's Xin Xin! Go and see the child quickly, don't worry about me!" Leng Fengmei said anxiously, her sweat soaking the ground.
