Chapter 1 Meteorite Falls from the Sky

"Can you please stop playing on your phone? The college entrance exam is just around the corner!"

"I've already done my homework, what's wrong with me looking at my phone for a bit? Can you please leave me alone? What about my sister?"

The argument between mother and daughter was happening again in the bedroom; it had happened countless times before!

Leng Fengmei was furious. Why had her daughter, whom she had raised with such care and love, turned out like this?

She was such a well-behaved and sensible child, I never imagined she would be like this now…

Ugh! What did I do wrong?

Which mother doesn't hope her child will achieve academic success in the future? But every time she tries to persuade her child with good intentions, all she gets in return is impatience, disdain, and then—she decides she doesn't want to care anymore...

Leng Fengmei collapsed onto the bed, suddenly feeling a sharp pain that made it hard to breathe, and her face turned pale instantly!

My lips are turning purple, and I'm clutching my heart with both hands—it hurts so much!

Tears fell in large drops. This body, due to years of hard work, was already too fragile to withstand. It could not get angry, could not overwork, and could not even be too happy!

I was already in complete control...

Leng Fengmei kept telling herself, why argue with the child!

Whether it's good or bad, I gave birth to them myself, and I've been through that stage myself. Don't be angry, don't be angry...

The youngest daughter is only four years old and still needs to be taken care of. She sniffed and rubbed her eyes haphazardly with her hand!

He opened the bedside table drawer, took out three Danshen tablets, picked up some water, and gulped them down!

She lay in bed, watching her youngest daughter play with her toys absentmindedly...

"Mom, can you two stop arguing? Why are you always arguing?" the little girl's innocent voice rang out.

"Yes, Mom won't nag anymore!" Leng Fengmei sighed deeply, suppressing her sadness.

I held back my tears. I've been looking forward to growing up for so long, but it's not as worry-free as when I was a child!

I felt a tightness in my chest, so I got up and opened the window. A gust of cold wind blew in my face, and I felt a little better. My chest felt like it was about to explode. I must never get angry again!

The room got cool in no time, so I quickly turned off the lights. I didn't want the child to catch a cold, especially since the flu has become so severe lately!

"Mom, what's wrong?" Seeing her mother's red eyes from crying, Song Yuhan felt a pang of guilt.

"Mom, don't be angry anymore. I'll never make you angry again. Oh... Mom... Mom..." The long, drawn-out syllable made Leng Fengmei feel even more stifled. Her heavy body, weighing over 100 pounds, pressed down on her, acting coquettishly. It was unclear whether she was apologizing or trying to kill her!

"Don't press on Mommy, I can't breathe!" she said while pushing her eldest daughter. She felt both angry and helpless.

The younger daughter glanced at her older sister and said, "Mom, when I grow up, I'll definitely study hard and go to university."

"Yes, yes, you're the best, alright!" The eldest daughter pouted, refusing to budge an inch.

"Alright, stop arguing. Let Mom rest for a while. Mom isn't feeling well!" Leng Fengmei coaxed them to stop arguing.

The farce that happens almost every day, although I should get used to it, still makes me incredibly irritable!

"Mom, you don't look well." Even the usually oblivious eldest daughter noticed something was wrong with her mother.

"It's alright, you just comfort your little sister for a while, and Mom will be fine after a rest," Leng Fengmei said patiently.

Looking at the time, it's noon. The children are all on holiday. They get up late in the winter mornings, so two meals a day are enough.

A short while later, the faint sounds of two children playing could be heard coming from another room.

Aside from not liking to study, my eldest daughter is actually quite obedient!

Leng Fengmei lay on the bed with her eyes closed, forcing herself to rest even though she wasn't sleepy, because she still had to cook for the children later.

As I was thinking, I suddenly felt my body slowly floating up. Looking at the bright sunshine outside, a few white clouds floated in the azure sky, their colors distinct, peaceful and beautiful!

It's like a beautiful painting; just looking at it makes you feel relaxed and happy.

My body felt lighter than ever before. You know, since having two children, my weight has reached 230 or 240 pounds. Even cleaning a room requires me to rest three times!

Being this fat is bad enough, but she also has a heart condition. Life has worn her down year after year. At forty years old, she doesn't look as young as a fifty-year-old woman. Sigh! No wonder she can't find a job.

My body slowly floated towards the window; I longed to leave this place and see the world outside!

"Mommy, don't go!" It was her youngest daughter's voice. Her two darling daughters were standing at the door, looking at her expectantly.

Sigh! No matter how infuriating it is, it's still something I carried for ten months and went through two C-sections to get, how can I bear to part with it!

Besides, they're not grown up yet, how can I only think of myself?

I opened my eyes in an instant, my heart pounding! It was all a dream. Looking out the window, the sky was so gloomy. Was it going to snow?

It was past three o'clock, and she forced herself to cheer up. It was time to cook for the children; their father should be back from delivering takeout soon.

Cooking is Leng Fengmei's only skill that she is proud of. She has persisted in it for twenty years and has long since become proficient.

I rinsed two bowls of rice and put them in the rice cooker, along with half a cabbage and a piece of tofu. Green vegetables are my little daughter's favorite.

Another stir-fried green peppers with pork; my eldest daughter absolutely loves meat.

Then I made a cucumber and kelp salad, and then I fried some peanuts, which was Song Chengyang's favorite snack with alcohol.

Thinking back to when we got married, we called each other "Chengyang" and "Mei".

Now they are "Xin Xin's Dad" and "Han Han's Mom," or they call each other by their full names. Their relationship is even more pure—a friendship from the revolutionary era.

After the dishes were cooked and the rice was steamed, I checked the time and it was already five o'clock, but Xin Xin's dad still hadn't come back.
