Chapter 36 Night Raid

"Knock knock knock~"

Afu ran quickly to the door and let out a "woof" at the door. The knocking outside stopped abruptly, and then resumed after a long while.

Lin Ruo walked to the door and looked out through the peephole. It was Qian Li.

She raised her eyebrows slightly. She could tell that Qian Li was actually a little afraid of Afu and Ashou. Why would she come to find her alone today?

Without thinking further, she opened the door and asked, "Is something the matter?"

Qian Li stood outside the door, clutching a plastic bag tightly in her hand. It was still steaming inside, probably containing food.

"Miss Lin, I'm sorry to bother you. These are steamed buns I made. Thank you for helping my husband yesterday."

Lin Ruo glanced at the bag in her hand, then looked up into Qian Li's eyes. "I wasn't helping him yesterday. I only intervened because someone wanted to steal my supplies. I killed someone because that person wanted to kill me. It's that simple."

Qian Li felt the pressure mounting. There were quite a few people in the 25th-floor corridor, all staring at the bag in her hand, as if they were about to rush up and snatch it at any moment.

"Take this. No matter what, you did help him yesterday." Qian Li stuffed the bag into Lin Ruo's hand.

Lin Ruo noticed Qian Li's nervousness. She crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame, glancing at the people around her. They all quickly lowered their heads, not daring to look any longer.

"No need. I only take what I'm entitled to and I never owe anyone favors. I can't repay them."

"But……"

Having heard Lin Ruo's words, Qian Li was caught in a dilemma, unsure whether to give or not. She felt that the moment Lin Ruo closed the door, she would be robbed.

"Go back first," Lin Ruo said, still leaning against the door, casually pulling out a dagger from her waist. The dagger twirled nimbly between her fingers as if it were alive, while Afu stood at her feet. "I'll wait for you."

With just one sentence, she managed to make those covetous eyes withdraw, and the 25th-floor corridor fell silent. Qian Li gave Lin Ruo a grateful look before turning around and going home, opening the door and quickly closing it again.

Lin Ruo waited until Qian Li closed the door before straightening up, then went home and slammed the door shut.

People in the hallway swallowed hard. The air still seemed to carry the aroma of steamed buns. They couldn't remember how many days it had been since they had eaten a hot steamed bun. They really wanted to eat one!

A group of people stared at Qian Li's house with greedy eyes.

The woman who was rescued last night looked at these people's eyes and silently lowered her head.

Lin Ruo didn't take the matter seriously. After returning, she continued with her own things, as she still had many books on traditional Chinese medicine to read.

That evening, Lin Ruo got tired of steamed buns and pies, so she took out a pan-fried steak from her spatial storage, which she had ordered from a Western restaurant in City B.

These Western dishes, which she didn't eat often, tasted quite good when she tried them for the first time. She ate three pieces in one go before she was full. During the meal, she couldn't stand Ah Shou's pitiful look, so she gave Ah Shou and Ah Fu two pieces so they could have a taste.

After finishing her meal, Lin Ruo picked up her tablet again. The tablet was plugged into a power cord and connected to the power storage box in the living room. This power storage box had been used for ten days and still had 30% of its power remaining, which was quite a lot of power.

Lin Ruo stayed at home, enjoying her life to the fullest. Li Wei hadn't come looking for her since the day she committed the murder.

Screams and pleas could be heard throughout the building every day.

"Give me back my food!" A middle-aged woman desperately clung to the man's leg. "We were husband and wife, you're forcing me to die!"

"Get out of here! I traded all this food for you! Get the hell out of here!" The man grabbed the middle-aged woman's hair with such force that he felt he could tear her scalp off.

"Ah!" The middle-aged woman seemed to go mad, flailing her arms and legs in pain, her face streaked with mud and tears.

"Let me go! You beast! Let me go!"

In a corner of the stairwell on the other side, a young woman was being humiliated by a man who was pinning her down. The woman struggled desperately, but her lack of food for a long time left her with no strength to resist. Her fists hit her man, but he felt no pain at all.

"Save me! Please save me! I'm pregnant! Save me!"

The woman, her face streaked with tears, sought help from others in the hallway, but the people around her were already used to it and all pretended not to see it. Some men even watched with great interest, thinking that they would take over after the man finished.

After the men left, satisfied, the woman stared blankly at the ceiling with wide eyes. The ground beneath her was already soaked in blood. Her unborn child had been killed by these beasts!

"Please stop hitting me! I really only have this much food left. My wife and children are waiting for it to save their lives! I beg you!"

"Shut the fuck up! Hand over the food, or I'll fucking kill you!"

On the other side, a man was being beaten to the ground by other men, punch after punch and kick after kick. He held tightly to the food in his hands, which he had found for his wife and children at home, and he would never give it away!

But the other side outnumbered him, and before he could deliver the food he had so painstakingly found to his wife and children, he was beaten to death. His body was even thrown out of the building and disappeared with the floodwaters outside the window.

Since the authorities abandoned the people, this kind of thing has been happening every day in Longyuan. Some people are just trying to get a bite to eat, some are just trying to survive, and some are just trying to have fun, disregarding the lives of others and acting recklessly.

This is the end times. Nobody cares about life. As long as you're alive and happy, that's more important than anything else.

Lin Ruo would sometimes use her special abilities to check the situation outside, or pick up a telescope to check the situation on the other side.
