Beneath the Church of Light lie many secret chambers, one of which is a forbidden area accessible only to the popes of all time.
At this moment, the old man, dressed in a magnificent white-gold robe, wearing the supreme crown on his head and holding the scepter passed down through generations, knelt respectfully on the ground.
There was nothing in front of the Pope; to be precise, the entire room was empty. The reason this place was considered a forbidden area was because of the stone bricks used to build it. Each brick was a legendary guardian stone, a magical mineral that could even be immune to the laws of nature. Each brick was worth a fortune, yet the Church of Light had insanely used them to build a house.
This secret chamber has only one purpose: to reduce the harm that the divine voice inflicts on people.
After confirming that everything was prepared, the Pope began to devoutly say, "Great God of Light, please guide me in the right direction."
The soul and body speak simultaneously, using the power of faith as a medium, and amplified through the entire church. The Pope believes that his words will surely reach the ears of God.
"Ee-ya-"
A strange scream pierced through the supposedly soundproof stone wall and reached the old pope's ears.
The Pope's body began to tremble violently. His resilient soul, as an eighth-tier epic, was like a lone boat in a storm under this wave of sound. His life force was like a candle flickering in the wind, ready to be extinguished at any moment.
He had failed again. At this moment, the Pope understood what the situation meant and had no choice but to give up the fight in order to survive.
The pope had been resisting desperately, but in the blink of an eye, his eyes became cloudy and confused.
The Pope pressed his index finger firmly against the rough ground, so hard that it easily broke his finger. Then, using his own blood, he slowly wrote on the ground.
As the last stroke was made, the old man, whose hair was already gray, trembled, and consciousness returned to his eyes.
For humankind, everything about God is taboo. Even listening to God's voice can cause physical and mental breakdown. Even a powerful and noble pope does not have the right to communicate with God.
However, this does not mean that communication is impossible. Through this secret chamber, the harm caused by the words of the God of Light will be minimized. Even if it is still beyond what humans can withstand, at least there will be no situation where someone is directly killed by the sound.
Moreover, everything about God is absolute. Even if humans cannot hear His voice, His will to convey to humans will still manifest in other ways.
If the light were stronger, one could clearly see that every corner of the room was filled with dark red characters, which were the divine pronouncements made by the Church of Light to the outside world.
The words that were just written by the old pope are "The time has come".
After praising the God of Light, the old Pope finally patted himself on the back and stood up; he understood what he needed to do next.
Although the secret chamber is a sacred place for communicating with the gods, it also seals off all external forces. Strong individuals would feel physiologically averse to staying in such a place, so the Pope left the secret chamber quickly.
Once outside, the Pope's face was filled with a happy smile. Although he still couldn't hear God's voice clearly this time, being able to be governed by God's will was also a supreme honor.
"Your Holiness, Wu Yu had contact with Her Highness the Holy Maiden again today." Sharp, who had been waiting outside for a long time, immediately reported this to the Pope as soon as he came out.
"Has he overstepped his bounds?" Once out of the sight of the gods, the Pope is not so humble in front of others; he displays the demeanor of a ruler who has long held a high position.
“Wu Yu burned their freshly harvested wheat in front of the Holy Maiden, and hasn’t made any further moves yet. He hasn’t made any further requests to the Holy Maiden since my last warning,” Sharp reported truthfully.
“Just a minor character.” After listening to Sharp’s report, the Pope did not take it to heart. “There is not enough time left for him to subtly influence Virginia’s thinking. His actions are ultimately futile. As long as he does not make contradictory requests to Virginia, you don’t need to worry about him.”
“What if he makes that kind of request?” Sharp asked.
"You might not be his match, and epic-level powerhouses can't just act rashly in the capital." The Pope pondered, then offered a solution.
"If Wu Yu really doesn't know what's good for him, then just have Virginia kill him. There's no need for her to keep her power a secret from the royal family any longer. You should know how to use her, right?"
"Understood." The strong reply came from behind the helmet, Sharp's usual way of responding, but this time, he seemed inexplicably resistant as he spoke.
······
After helping Virginia wash the dishes, Wu Yu dragged his exhausted body home.
Because he was missing a hand, Wu Yu could only help Virginia in the kitchen, but even just standing there was tiring.
Wu Yu couldn't understand why a clergyman like her would have better physical strength than him, a first-tier warrior. But then he thought that ordinary people couldn't become saintesses, so Wu Yu understood.
Remembering that there were still some vegetables and meat left at home, Wu Yu decided to just make do with whatever was available today. After all, he had to give that gold coin to the farmer; showing off never comes without a price!
But as soon as Wu Yu opened the door, a delicious aroma of food wafted out, instantly whetting his appetite.
Hearing the door open, a small head peeked out from the kitchen. After confirming it was Wu Yu, the child happily said, "Wu Yu is back just in time! Go and rest in the living room for a bit; dinner will be ready soon."
