Chapter Eighteen: Escape

An overwhelming killing intent burst forth from Jack's eyes, and Jerry's heart clenched, as if he had just escaped death.

"I really will die," was the most immediate answer Jerry came to.

"three."

"two."

“I’ll go with you.” Jerry finally succumbed to Jack’s tyranny.

"Is this really a good idea?" Wu Yu asked in a low voice, looking at Jerry's hateful gaze, somewhat unable to understand Jack's actions.

“I like to solve problems in the most efficient way, and I’ve been emphasizing to you that time is running out. If we can’t make it in time, we’ll be stuck in this deserted city.” Jack replied nonchalantly, then grabbed Jerry’s arm and dragged him away without looking back.

Wu Yu turned to look at that great mother. After shedding the strength she showed in front of her child, she too began to weep, like a vulnerable woman.

Wu Yu shook his head, knowing that he was also in a precarious situation, so he didn't do anything unnecessary and quickly caught up with Jack.

Fortunately, the desolate city was not large, and the three of them reached the city wall before Wu Yu collapsed from exhaustion.

However, Jack did not make any further moves. He took out a small hourglass from his spatial ring, placed it on the ground, and then sat cross-legged on the ground to close his eyes and meditate.

"What is this?" Wu Yu noticed that the sand in the hourglass wasn't falling down and asked curiously.

“A spatial hourglass, a detection device. When the sand stops flowing, it means that the space here is sealed off,” Jack explained.

"So what do we do now?"

"wait."

······

The eastern part of the desolate city was where the city guards were usually stationed, but at this moment there were no soldiers there; they had all gone to the city walls to guard the city.

But at this moment, there wasn't a single person here.

Princess Philliss was there at that moment, while the head maid was inscribing an intricate magic circle. All that was needed to do was place a few magic cores in the right positions to activate it.

Fully armed, Maper stood beside the princess and said with concern, "Your Highness, once you leave the desolate city using spatial teleportation, you will no longer be disturbed. At that time, you only need to crush the teleportation scroll given to you by the Grand Preceptor to safely return to the capital, so don't be afraid now."

"What about Sister Maper? Aren't you coming with us?" Phillis asked worriedly, looking up at her delicate little face.

Mapel stroked Phillis's hair and chuckled, "Silly child, I am a knight. Guarding the border is one of my duties. Now that disaster has struck, how can I leave? Don't worry, they are just demons. Once reinforcements arrive, I will lead my army to wipe them out without leaving a single one alive."

"I don't want to! I want Sister Maper to come with me. If you don't come, I won't go either." Phillis pouted and started to act childish.

“Sigh.” Mapel sighed, then looked to the head maid for help.

The head maid had just finished completing the magic circle. She strode over, grabbed Phillis's wrist forcefully, and dragged her into the magic circle.

"Let me go! I want Sister Mapel to come with me, Sister Mapel!"

While Philliss was still putting up a futile resistance, the head maid had already activated the magic circle, and with a flash of white light, the two of them disappeared from the desolate city.

Alone and with a solemn expression, Maper gripped her newly acquired knight's sword and finally walked outside.

···

The time has come.

As a grain of sand fell through the gap in the hourglass, Jack suddenly opened his eyes.

He reached out and a bundle of scrolls bound with rope appeared in his hand. Jack quickly unrolled the scrolls, and an intricate magic circle appeared beneath his feet.

Jack grabbed Jerry's arm with his left hand to prevent him from escaping, while holding Wu Yu's hand with his right.

So soft, so small, Wu Yu couldn't help but gently squeeze it. He felt that his hand was not only soft and boneless, but also lacked the roughness of a man's hand. Wrapping it in his palm, Wu Yu actually had the feeling of holding his girlfriend's hand in the past.

Before Wu Yu could think any further, he felt a sense of weightlessness and his eyes briefly lost their light.

The three of them successfully escaped the deserted city.
