"Why is there only one person? Can't there be more?" the male elf pleaded.
"If I'm alone, I can carry the enemy I can't defeat and escape. But if you all come with me, not to mention the risk of being exposed, wouldn't I be forced to fight on all fours when we encounter the enemy? You've protected the village for so many years, surely you understand this crucial point?" Wu Yu saw through the other party's little scheme at a glance and said nonchalantly.
"If you all want to follow me, I won't refuse, but you'd better be prepared to be abandoned by me at the crucial moment."
The male elf was speechless. He had indeed intended to follow Wu Yu, but seeing Wu Yu's attitude, which was not just empty talk, he had to change his mind.
"Human, I agree to your request. We will send one of our people to accompany you, and we only hope that you can deliver her to our elven fortress." As the guardian of this group, the male elf did not need to consult with others when making decisions and quickly gave Wu Yu his answer.
Should we send someone to fetch reinforcements? Why bother? Having hope might only bring more painful despair. Since the Elf Queen hasn't sent anyone to rescue them for ten whole years, it's clear they've been abandoned, or perhaps the Elf Queen is too busy taking care of herself.
“Okay.” Wu Yu nodded in agreement. He didn’t reveal the cruel truth. Since he couldn’t offer any better advice, he decided not to meddle. “Then you guys should quickly discuss who will leave with me later. I’m in a hurry.”
“Okay.” The male elf nodded, then gathered the other elves and began their discussion, keeping Wu Yu at bay.
To avoid suspicion, Wu Yu simply went outside the cave for a stroll. He headed straight for the trolls' base camp, casually killed a few goblins left behind, and then began to loot the spoils.
Wu Yu was very disappointed with the result. It was a small tribe with more than a thousand people, but apart from some food reserves, all they had were some low-quality weapons for the goblins to use. In the end, Wu Yu still managed to find two poor-quality magic cores in the residents' houses.
This solved Wu Yu's immediate problem. In order to conquer the Tree of Life, Wu Yu had spent all his savings, even losing the money he had made from selling the Church of Light's bracelet. In the end, he didn't get a penny, and he lost a fortune.
When he returned to the human world, he would be unable to move an inch without money, so Wu Yu simply put those inferior weapons into his storage space, intending to sell them as scrap metal later. He also happily accepted the reserve food.
Disdain is one thing, whether to accept it or not is another. Life is what it is, nothing to be ashamed of.
When Wu Yu returned to the elven cave, the elves had already finished their discussion. A little girl who was as thin as a skeleton and clearly malnourished was pushed in front of Wu Yu by the group.
“This is my daughter Joyce, a former genius of our village. She has already reached the third tier of strength at just over a hundred years old. Although she is not capable of protecting herself in the dangerous forest, she should not hold you back,” the male elf introduced to Wu Yu.
Well, Wu Yu was originally considering whether to show some pity for this young girl on the way and be a little kinder to her, but it turns out she's old enough to be his ancestor. It seems he should just treat her as a tool.
“Strength doesn’t matter. I only have one requirement: that you be obedient enough. So, little sister, are you willing to obey my orders?” Wu Yu looked at the little girl who seemed like she could be blown away by the wind and asked kindly.
"I...I will follow your instructions." The voice was a little soft, but the tone was quite firm.
Having worked hard for a full ten years, Wu Yu wasn't worried that she would be the kind of person who was willful and unreasonable. So, Wu Yu pressed his advantage and said, "Alright, then let me test your resolve first."
"Cure" [Magic Shaping]
Wu Yu easily completed the rapid chanting, conjuring a pair of black scissors and a razor in his hand.
"Then could you please cut my hair and shave me?" Wu Yu said, sounding like an old man.
This world isn't ancient times, and Wu Yu isn't some kind of performance artist. Wu Yu thinks it's stupid of him to keep his hair long. He kept it before because he was worried that his haircut would look terrible. As for his full beard, if he didn't cut it, he would look like a wild man. Wu Yu isn't at the age where he needs a beard to show off his masculine charm.
Joyce was stunned. She never expected Wu Yu to make such a request. This was a situation of life and death, couldn't he be more mindful of the atmosphere?
However, thinking of the high hopes the villagers had for him, Joyce had no choice but to bite the bullet and accept Wu Yu's tools.
Joyce had never studied hairdressing, but as a third-tier superhuman, at least her hand wouldn't shake when she held a knife. She first shaved off the tuft of beard cleanly and neatly, and then, after thinking for a moment, she gave Wu Yu a head of choppy haircut. She didn't know anything about hairstyles, so she could only try to make sure it was as neat as possible.
After finishing, Wu Yu touched his smooth chin and said with great satisfaction, "Not bad. From now on, you just need to be as obedient as you were today."
Wu Yu was well aware of the elves' arrogance. In the past, it would have been a pipe dream to expect them to serve him tea and water. They would only bother him if they were willing to lower their noble heads to him.
Wu Yu was just doing a favor; he was the one bestowing the gift, but he didn't want to create a burden for himself.
“Yes, sir.” Joyce showed only obedience when looking at Wu Yu.
