Chapter Nineteen: On the Road Again

"I apologize, human. We are of lowly strength and have been trapped here for a long time. We don't know much," the male elf said apologetically, while placing himself between Wu Yu and the other elves to guard against a sudden attack from Wu Yu.

I have to say, it's no wonder they're elves. Even in this state of destitution, they still don't rush over to grovel before me. But I like this kind of personality; it saves me from some unnecessary trouble.

"It's alright, any information is useful to me, just tell me." Wu Yu said with a smile, but his full beard made him look fierce, and the elves behind him looked at him with fear.

“Alright then,” the male elf said, no longer hesitating.

"We were just a small village, living a self-sufficient and peaceful life. But everything changed with the demon invasion ten years ago. Our village was burned down, and many residents were killed, leaving only us survivors. We've been hiding ever since, and if it weren't for your appearance, we would probably be dead at the hands of the demons today."

Ten years ago?

Wu Yu was startled; he hadn't expected to be unconscious for so long.

"So what's the current situation?" Wu Yu asked, feigning composure.

"When the seals of the four polar regions were broken, Her Majesty the Queen led the elves in a fierce resistance, but ultimately they were no match for them and had to gather in the fortresses that had been prepared in advance. The demons sent some troops to besiege the fortresses, while the rest of their army marched inland. This is what I heard from my fellow countrymen who fled. As for the current situation of the battle, I really have no idea," the male elf replied.

Tsk, it's confirmed. Violet really broke the seal. But why did she have to wait until I went to the Elf Kingdom?

It would be understandable if she wanted to use her own power to eliminate some opponents, but she was stabbed as soon as she made contact with the god under the Tree of Life. This is completely unreasonable, and there is no way to understand why she did this.

Forget it, let's put that issue aside for now. Wu Yu is more concerned about Violet's stance.

It seems that she is from the Demon Clan. Wu Yu has only known her for half a year, so it is normal that he has not seen through her background. But this makes Jack's actions inexplicable.

Since Violet is so strong, how could she let her important brother be killed?

The only effect of Jack's death on her was that he could stay by her side, but staying by her side brought her absolutely no benefit.

In other words, Jack is very likely not dead.

When I first saw Jack's body, I was already furious. But thinking about it carefully, it would be too easy to fake someone's death using magic from another world.

Moreover, Wu Yu remembered very clearly that the place where he first met Jack was near the Four Poles, and not long after, the Demon Clan invasion occurred.

If the system hadn't deliberately tricked him, then it's very likely that it was all Jack's doing.

"Heh, Jack, Violet, you two siblings owe me an explanation." Wu Yu couldn't help but sneer as he thought about how much they had kept from him, his voice quite chilling.

Seeing Wu Yu muttering to himself, the male elf cautiously said, "Human, I'm sorry, I don't know anything else."

"It's nothing. I just wanted to confirm the timeline. It's a pleasant surprise to find out about the progress of the demons' conquest of the continent." Wu Yu was quite easy to talk to; he didn't like to hold grudges against others.

"By the way, since you know that the Elven race has several fortresses, why don't you go and seek refuge there? I see that your living conditions here aren't very good." Wu Yu looked at him with suspicion.

Looking around, these elves were all covered in dust and dirt, a far cry from the handsome men and beautiful women of the past. For someone with a natural obsession with cleanliness to be so unkempt, one can only imagine how poor their quality of life had become.

“Alas, we also wish to return to Her Majesty the Queen’s protection, but the journey has been arduous, and our village can no longer withstand any more turbulence. It is all my fault for being too weak to help them forge a safe future,” the male elf sighed.

"Just how dangerous is it?" Wu Yu asked, pressing for details. He was about to leave the Endless Forest, and knowing in advance how many obstacles lay ahead would be of great help to him.

"This forest has been taken over by demons, and monsters roam everywhere. You can encounter one as powerful as that troll every few miles, but..." The male elf paused, looking at Wu Yu with hopeful eyes.

"It may not be dangerous for you. The demon army is still invading the human world. Saint-level experts are all being held back by experts from various races. The demons who remain in the Endless Forest now are all below the Saint level."

Wu Yu understood what he meant, but he didn't intend to be a good Samaritan. He said directly, "Don't have any hope in me. I can't possibly escort you to the fortress. I have more important things to do now and don't want to meddle in other people's business, especially one that doesn't concern me."

"You've already saved our lives, how can we possibly take advantage of you?" the elf said with a forced smile, his eyes filled with barely concealed disappointment.

Wu Yu was quite satisfied with the male elves' level of awareness. His cold attitude was precisely to prevent them from clinging to him like glue. He felt no psychological pressure killing demons, but he was quite reluctant to kill this group of humanoid creatures.

"Now I need to discuss a deal with you. I would like to ask you to send someone to guide me. In return, I can take him to a safe place," Wu Yu then proposed the terms of the deal.
