Chapter 301 In the Darkness

The aged Manstein stood before Xu Fan and said with a smile;

"My child, you've finally come."

Xu Fan tilted his head, looking at the old man dressed in a medieval-style robe with considerable curiosity:

Who are you?

“Me?” The old man smiled, a kind smile appearing on his face: “I am the great god of death and reincarnation, Manstein.”

After introducing himself, Manstein smiled and said, "Child, what brings you here?"

Xu Fan shook his head: "I don't know."

Then he raised his hand and slapped his forehead hard, as if trying to wake up his dormant memories.

"Anyway, when I opened my eyes, I inexplicably found myself here."

"But I always feel like I've forgotten something."

Manstein waved his hand gracefully: "Child, none of this matters."

"Now, is there anything you want to do?"

"What do you want to do?" Xu Fan looked up in confusion, staring at Manstein as if he were an alien, as if he didn't understand what Manstein was talking about, or as if he didn't know what "what do you want to do" meant.

Seeing Xu Fan's bewildered expression, Manstein continued his guidance, saying:

"For example, you feel very tired right now, as if you haven't slept for days and nights, and you desperately need a good night's sleep."

Xu Fan nodded sincerely and said honestly, "As you said, I do feel very tired right now."

Manstein never expected that Xu Fan would be so responsive.

A kind smile slowly emerged from his wrinkles: "Then I think, child, it's time for you to get some rest."

However, Xu Fan shook his head at this moment: "Grandpa, I don't think I can sleep right now."

"Why?" Manstein's voice seemed to possess a certain convincing magic, gently echoing in Xu Fan's ears.

"As a deity, I can see that you are very tired right now."

"Look at you, your soul is now incomplete. Get a good night's sleep, and when you wake up tomorrow, I believe everything will be just as you remember it."

Xu Fan lowered his head in frustration, twisting two fingers together as he looked down at the mottled wounds on his body.

"But I don't remember what I used to be like."

Manstein smiled and patted Xu Fan's head reassuringly.

“Child, it’s alright. As the great god of death, I promise that when you wake up tomorrow, I will make you remember what you were like before.”

Perhaps because the conversation with Manstein was so relaxing, Xu Fan's eyes gradually became hazy, and he simply sat down on the ground.

Seeing the remarkable success before him, Manstein was about to say goodnight to Xu Fan when Xu Fan suddenly pointed forcefully to his heart.

"But I always feel like this place has lost something very important, and that makes me very upset."

Xu Fan then looked sincerely at Manstein: "Grandpa, since you say you are a god, can you help me?"

Manstein smiled and said, "As you wish, my child."

Xu Fan's eyes revealed a hint of joy as he clapped his hands vigorously.

Suddenly, two longswords appeared in Manstein's hands.

"Child, look, is this the divine sword you've lost?"

Xu Fan looked at the lump of iron in front of him, shook his head, and it was as if some image flashed through his mind: "Grandpa, this is not mine."

Manstein persisted: "And what about this sword? Is this what you lost?"

Xu Fan slowly replied, "No."

Manstein raised the last sword: "And this one?"

Xu Fan lowered his head in disappointment and shook his head slightly, but the dejection in his expression was almost visible to the naked eye.

Manstein pondered for a moment, and then the three swords vanished into thin air.

He chuckled and said to Xu Fan, "Since you can't find what you lost, it's probably because you're just too tired right now."

"How about this, you go and get some sleep first. Maybe when you wake up, you'll remember all of this."

Xu Fan remained silent for a moment, then nodded to Manstein.

"I hope what you're saying is a good suggestion, sir."

Manstein's eyes were full of wisdom: "Believe me, son, my suggestion is a good one."

Xu Fan nodded and lay down carefully.

But just as he closed his eyes, a blurry image floated before him: a little girl, whose face he couldn't make out, smiled and slowly called out:

"elder brother."

Xu Fan seemed to have been stimulated by something, and suddenly sat up, panting heavily.

Manstein, who was about to leave, turned back to Xu Fan's side after seeing this scene.

"Child, did you not sleep well?"

"Did you have a nightmare?"

Xu Fan hadn't yet recalled the contents of the scene, but he said firmly;

"No, that wasn't a nightmare."

Seeing Xu Fan sit up again, Manstein simply sat down opposite him.

"I suppose you wouldn't mind an old man like me listening to what you just dreamed about?"

Xu Fan nodded silently, and after a long while, he slowly spoke:

"I just dreamt that someone was calling me brother."

"Perhaps you were just thinking about your sister."

"A younger sister? I actually have a younger sister?"

Xu Fan's eyes widened, as if he had discovered a new continent, his gaze filled with curiosity.

Manstein's smile froze, and after a moment, he slowly spoke:

"Yes, I think you must have been thinking about your sister."

Xu Fan looked at Manstein with a pleading look in his eyes:

"Great God, can you tell me about my sister?"

Manstein paused for a moment, then a gentle smile returned to his face.

“Little one, I’d be happy to do this so you can get a good night’s sleep.”

Xu Fan said gratefully to the old man:

"You are such a kind person, and I think everyone will be as grateful to you as I am."

"I hope so," the old man smiled, his wise eyes suddenly becoming profound as he looked at Xu Fan as if trying to read through his limited past experiences.

After a moment of hesitation, the old man finally spoke.

"This is a very long story, and you may have forgotten it, but that's okay, I will tell you it slowly."
