The clear sound of the bells was especially loud in the darkness of the night. The moon in the sky was just covered by dark clouds, and it was so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
"Grandma, I can't see, what should I do?"
A delicate, girlish voice sounded quite out of place amidst the silent, desolate graveyard.
"Can't see it? Shine a flashlight on it!" A strong voice came from the side, with a faint echo.
"No! My mom took the flashlight; she took it to poop." The girl's delicate voice carried a hint of helplessness.
Then, a strong voice rang out again, "Pah! Your mother is such a rascal, she always messes up at the crucial moment."
"Grandma, what should we do? I can't see without a flashlight!"
The girl's voice carried a hint of anxiety and a touch of weakness.
The woman, who was full of energy, was also getting a little anxious. This was Pear Blossom's first time catching a ghost, and she couldn't afford to fail.
That's right, the two women who stayed up late at night were none other than Ma Linghua and Ma Lihua, the ghost-catching successors of the Ma family.
Ma Linghua thought for a moment and said, "Can you sense ghostly energy?"
Standing in the center of the grave mound, Ma Lihua reached out and touched it, but found nothing. Then she sniffed it and smelled a faint stench of excrement.
She quickly pinched her nose. No, she didn't want to stay in this place any longer. So, she groped her way forward in the dark, slowly probing the path ahead.
"How is it? Can you feel the ghostly aura?" Ma Linghua's voice came from the bottom of the grave slope again.
"No, it only smells like poop. Grandma, I want to get down. There are so many mosquitoes here, they're biting me to death," Ma Lihua said unhappily.
Ma Linghua hurriedly said, "Baby! You mustn't get down! This is your first time performing!"
Listening to her grandmother's words, Ma Lihua knew she had been on her phone a lot. Debut? Why didn't she say she got the first kill?
Not only was it too dark, but she was also extremely frail, and a surge of inexplicable anger made her stomp her foot.
"Snap!"
A clear, melodious voice rang in her ears, followed by a scream.
"ah………………"
The sound nearly scared Ma Lihua to death; she shuddered and crushed something else.
It feels like a glass jar.
"ah…………"
Another scream rang out.
Ma Linghua had incredibly sharp ears. Upon hearing the ghost's screams, she became excited and exclaimed at the top of her lungs, "Lihua, my darling! You're absolutely amazing! I'm so proud of you!"
Ma Lihua: ? ? ?
What's there to be proud of? She was completely confused; it was so dark that she couldn't see the road at all.
The surrounding ghosts trembled as they looked at the thirteen-year-old girl, some even muttering to themselves.
"Don't come to my grave, don't come to my grave."
Go to his grave! Go to his grave!
Brother, that's unethical of you! All the ghosts and monsters were secretly cursing that gossipy brat.
At the foot of the cemetery, Ma Linghua grinned widely. The women of the Ma family were indeed outstanding, and she felt a sense of pride. However, the sound of footsteps behind her interrupted her good mood.
"Mother, how is Pear Blossom? Did she successfully catch the ghost?"
A middle-aged woman was walking along, pulling up her trousers as she went. Her canvas shoes had some holes in them.
Looking at her somewhat unkempt daughter, Ma Linghua felt a little uneasy.
She just couldn't understand why her daughter was so robust, while her granddaughter was so delicate.
A gentle breeze carried a faint smell of feces. Although there were no restrictions on urination and defecation on the barren mountain, wasn't this smell a bit too strong?
Then, watching her daughter walk unsteadily, one step at a time, with a flashlight in hand, she asked with difficulty, "Lotus, why is your walking so strange?"
Ma Hehua complained, "Mom, you're still talking! It's all because you and my daughter left in such a hurry, bringing your ghost-catching gear with you. I had to use the leaves and roots of the trees to wipe my bottom, and it hurt so much!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Ma Linghua couldn't hold back anymore, and the expression on her face was like a palette of colors.
She covered her face, thinking about how hard her son-in-law had worked over the years. She felt sorry for him, having been able to spend so much time with her daughter.
"So, you didn't clean your ass properly?" Ma Linghua said. No wonder it smelled like poop.
Ma Hehua didn't care. She would wash her bottom as soon as she got home, so a little bit of stains wouldn't matter!
"Grandma, has my mother come back?"
A weak voice came from the cemetery, and then Ma Linghua looked up at Ma Hehua.
Ma Hehua chuckled and touched her nose, saying somewhat ingratiatingly, "Mom, I didn't mean to take my flashlight. I was just scared, so I thought I'd use the flashlight to give myself courage."
Knowing she was in the wrong, she hurried up the hill with her flashlight, and breathed a sigh of relief as she got further and further away from her mother's deathly sight.
"Daughter, Mom is here, don't be afraid!" Ma Hehua's shout almost gave Ma Lihua a heart attack.
Before she even reached the cemetery, she received a sharp rap on the head, the pain bringing tears to her eyes. She then asked, her voice filled with grievance, "Mother, why did you hit me?"
Ma Linghua really wanted to twist her head off. "Don't you know that Lihua is delicate and not very brave? What are you yelling about? Hurry up and take her down."
Ma Hehua pouted at her mother's angry expression. Her mother hadn't been so gentle when she first caught a ghost.
Holding a flashlight to light the way, as soon as they reached the cemetery, they saw her daughter standing there, pinching her nose.
"Daughter, come over here by yourself! Mom won't go down, I'll stay here and take care of you!"
Ma Hehua didn't want to go down; this cemetery was so filthy! Not only was there animal excrement everywhere, but there were also rotting animal carcasses.
As she was shining a flashlight and lost in thought, her mother kicked her down the slope.
Ouch!
Ma Hehua let out a scream, then quickly shone the flashlight beam. Looking at her mother's sinister expression, she said sheepishly, "Mother, I'll go get my daughter right away. Don't worry, I'll carry her down the mountain and won't let her suffer at all."
"Okay! Go quickly! Don't delay, it's getting late," Ma Linghua said calmly.
"Ding-dong... ding-dong... ding-dong..."
The sound of the bell was particularly loud in the deep mountains. Ma Lihua climbed onto her mother's back, feeling much more comfortable and relaxed. However, a strange smell wafted into her nose.
But none of that matters now; she can finally go home and sleep.
Ma Linghua glanced at her beloved granddaughter with satisfaction. In the blink of an eye, she had transformed into a graceful young girl. She couldn't deny that she was getting old!
