Western Hunan.
A gloomy and terrifying cave was crawling with rats. Suddenly, a fat rat was grabbed by a pair of black claws and then quickly disappeared.
The cave entrance is covered with dense weeds, providing excellent concealment, making it almost impossible to spot in this deep mountain forest.
The cave was dark, and because it was raining, you could hear the dripping of water.
"Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock."
There were some black water stains on the ground, which emitted a foul odor, like that of dead rats. The cave was quite large, and bats were circling inside.
They were restless and let out sharp cries. Soon, a black mist shot towards them, and all the bats hanging in the cave fell to the ground.
However, after they landed, a pair of black, sharp claws crushed them like mud, and then all that could be heard were the sounds of swallowing. The cave was completely obscured.
Only the sound aroused the surrounding animals. A rabbit unfortunately wandered in, and soon disappeared, leaving only the swaying weeds behind.
"Captain Hao, have you found it?" A male voice rang out from outside the cave.
"No, and we don't know where that evil spirit went. It was seriously injured and failed the tribulation of lightning, so it couldn't have gone far," Hao Chenggong (captain of the special operations team of the Xiangxi detachment) said solemnly.
"Should we still look?" the man continued to ask.
"Let's go back first. It's getting late, and it would be bad for us to search at night. We stopped the villagers at the foot of the mountain and told them there was a tiger in the mountain. We'll open it up after we deal with that."
"Yes, Captain."
Inside the cave, a pair of blood-red eyes stared at the group of people outside the weeds, while Hao Chenggong and his companions were completely unaware that they were being watched.
The six people were preparing to go down the mountain. The last one was a man in his thirties. He was smoking a cigarette. It was raining and he couldn't see the road clearly. It was dark at night, and it was about six o'clock.
"Swish...swish..."
He heard the sound of leaves rustling behind him. He turned around abruptly and saw a flock of birds, but one of them had fallen from the tree.
Out of curiosity, the man stopped and slowly approached, thinking that he could pick up some wild game for free and have a meal at home. A smile appeared on his lips.
He crouched down, picked up the wild animal, and shouted happily, "Captain!" before being dragged into the weeds.
"Ahhh... Ahhh..."
His pitiful scream rang out, and Hao Chenggong suddenly ran backward, only to see a dead pheasant lying on the ground, and no sign of the man.
"Old Gao... Old Gao... What's wrong, Old Gao..." Hao Chenggong pushed aside the weeds, and the five of them searched everywhere and called out, but... in the silent old forest, there was really no sound.
The atmosphere around them became tense, and the five of them sensed that something was wrong.
"Captain, quickly call the city headquarters! This evil spirit is no ordinary being; it might be a four-star difficulty level." A young man immediately realized that the zombie had failed its tribulation, but it had gained intelligence, and this intelligence was quite extraordinary!
All five men were sweating profusely. Hao Chenggong immediately made contact, "Headquarters, headquarters, we are Squad 7. The zombies we are chasing have become intelligent. We request support from headquarters. We request support from headquarters." Hao Chenggong spoke into the headset on his clothes.
A jet-black hand pierced his heart from behind. "Pfft..." Hao Chenggong's eyes were filled with disbelief. He then shouted to the four people, "Run, run, run! This...this is a ten-star...difficulty...black zombie..."
As soon as he finished speaking, he died with his eyes wide open. Then, something that looked neither human nor ghost bit his neck. In an instant, Hao Chenggong turned into a dried-up corpse, his eyeballs bulging out of their sockets, looking extremely terrifying.
The four men felt a chill run down their spines at the sight, and then they started running, each using their special skills.
"Run! This is a black zombie. It's been raining and there's no sun, so it can move around easily. Let's split up and run," the young man analyzed.
"Then let's each go to one side."
"good."
Whether we live or die is up to fate.
The group smiled bitterly. Old Gao and the captain were dead, and they figured they'd be next soon, but who would want to die if they could live?
So they all ran with all their might.
"Huff... hiss... huff..."
The inhuman, black zombie had a blazing red light in its eyes, and fangs loomed in its mouth. Its voice was like the low growl of a wildcat. (I'm not sure if that's accurate.)
The young man ran towards the precipice. He swallowed hard; this was a dead end! He turned back and saw the black zombie, reeking of stench, standing behind him.
He thought he saw him smile, which sent chills down his spine. He was going to die. Why didn't he go after someone else?
He probably didn't expect that the others were no longer alive; they had long since been completely devoured by the zombie.
"You...you stay away! If you come any closer, I'll jump!" The young man trembled and swallowed hard.
Would a zombie listen? He's probably still half asleep; of course, a zombie wouldn't listen.
The zombie was dressed in ancient clothes, had a crescent moon on its head, and was very tall. It was covered with maggots, and its fingernails were pitch black and as sharp as mantises.
The young man closed his eyes and jumped. Did you think that would make the zombies give up?
Of course not. He jumped down at lightning speed. The young man was devastated. This damned bastard, he still wouldn't let him go even after all this?
But then, he noticed the coffins covering the cliff face and his eyes lit up – there was hope!
He flicked a hook from his hand and hooked it onto a plank of a coffin. Then he tried to swing over. Just as the black zombie was about to grab him, he gritted his teeth, tied his hands with wire, and swung over despite the pain.
The black zombie reached out but couldn't grab anyone. He was momentarily stunned, but when he realized what was happening, he roared in exasperation.
"bump…………"
He landed on the ground, making a large crater. He slowly climbed out of the crater. The young man was terrified. It was nine o'clock at night. In the dim moonlight, the young man watched him bounce up.
There were so many coffins hanging on the cliff face, and the young man's mind raced... Hmm! He couldn't think of anything...
Looking at the coffin in front of him, he didn't hesitate and used all his strength and his best skills to climb inside.
The stench of the corpse inside assaulted his senses, and he vomited. Halfway through, he heard the black zombie's roar and swallowed back down.
"Ugh... gulp..." It was so disgusting. He held his breath, instantly concealing his breathing.
The black zombie jumped again, leaping twenty meters in a row. It sniffed the air, but couldn't detect any human presence.
The sound of him jumping and landing was exceptionally loud, deafeningly so in the deep cliff.
Soon, he stopped jumping, and the young man breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to open the coffin, he felt a chill on the top of his head.
He slowly lifted himself up and saw that the corpse he had been pressing down on was staring at him with a pair of green eyes, and it was breathing rapidly.
That wasn't the most terrifying thing. Through a crack in the coffin, a pair of scarlet eyes were also staring at him.
