If there's anyone in this world who can keep her brother in check, it's her sister-in-law.
"Fine, you're all my aunties, I can't afford to offend you. I'll go do the work, okay?" He rolled up his sleeves and was about to help.
"Brother, no need. You sit with my sister-in-law for a while. Leave these things to me. I'll fry fish for you for lunch."
These days, we always keep fish at home, just so we can make soup for my sister-in-law.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, sister!" He took out a box of cookies from the package. "This box is yours."
"Thank you, brother!" Gu Yanliu's eyes almost curved into crescent moons; her brother hadn't forgotten her contribution.
"Girl, be more careful about how you laugh next time."
"Tell me, your eyes aren't big to begin with. If you keep smiling like that, they'll turn into slits." Gu Yanbai sat casually in his chair.
“Brother…” Gu Yanliu’s lips pursed even more.
"Yanbai, don't say that."
Our Yanliu is pretty, hardworking, and capable. I wonder how many handsome young men will come to propose marriage in the future!
She gently shook Gu Yanbai's hand, and his large hands naturally enveloped hers in his own.
The warmth traveled through the joint between her hands and into her heart.
She tried to pull her hand back, but the hand only wrapped around her more tightly.
"Sister-in-law, I'm not getting married!"
"Whose home is as comfortable as mine? I'm going to live with my brother and sister-in-law for the rest of my life." Gu Yanliu raised her head slightly and said with a proud look.
"Okay, I'll remember that. I'll say that next time someone comes to propose marriage," Su Nianxue teased.
"Sister-in-law, I'll make you some chicken soup." She chuckled twice and carried the cleaned chicken to the kitchen.
After she left, Gu Yanbai took her hand and stood up from the chair. "Come on, let's go to the room. I'll show you something good!"
"What good stuff is it? Why are you being so mysterious?" she asked with a curious look.
Gu Yanbai just smiled and didn't say anything. Once the two of them were in the room, he immediately closed the door behind him.
"What, what do you want to do? I'm telling you, don't do anything reckless!" Seeing his anxious look, she felt a little nervous.
Seeing her wary movements, Gu Yanbai chuckled, "What are you thinking about all day long with that little brain of yours?"
What could I possibly do in broad daylight? Besides, do you think I'm that kind of person?
"What do you think? Don't you know what kind of person you are?" Su Nianxue stared straight at him, her meaning quite clear.
“Well…the situation was different before!” Gu Yanbai clenched his fist, put it to his lips, coughed lightly, and his face turned red for once.
"Besides, I'm a young, virile man, right... isn't it normal for me to have a little bit of that?"
"Whatever you say goes, you'll always be right no matter what you say." Su Nianxue rolled her eyes at him.

"Open it and take a look!" he urged.
But when Su Nianxue saw what was inside, her face flushed red. "You, you went to buy underwear?"
"Isn't your thing quite small? I was worried it would be too tight for you, so I bought you a few things while I was out this time." Gu Yanbai touched the tip of his nose, looking somewhat uncomfortable.
"Did you buy it at the market?"
"No, I have a friend who does this, and I just happened to run into him, so I went to his place and got a few items."
How did you know my size?
"I've been taking a lot of small orders these days, so I know the size better than you do." He leaned close to her ear, his dark eyes smiling, his voice slightly hoarse, emphasizing the word "size."
"You're annoying." She reached out and gently pinched his waist.
"Why don't you wear it and let me see?" he tempted.
"Get out." She quickly stuffed the clothes into the bag.
"Let me see if it fits. If not, I'll take it to get you a replacement." He put his arm around her waist and carefully examined her.
She was fairer and more delicate than before, and had gained a bit more plumpness, making her look more charming overall.
Su Nianxue's eyes darted around, and she gave a mischievous laugh. "Gu Yanbai, are you sure you want to see this? Think it over before you speak!"
Looking at her bright smile, Gu Yanbai's throat tightened, and he subconsciously swallowed. "Never mind, I'll save it for later!"
I forgot about it when I was in a good mood. If I had actually seen it, I would have just been upset.
Su Nianxue wore a victorious smile. "You little brat, I can't handle you now."
After lunch, Gu Yanliu said, "Brother, let's go dig bamboo shoots together."
"Once we get them back, we'll make pickled bamboo shoots. Stir-fried pickled bamboo shoots or used in old duck soup are both delicious."
"Are there bamboo shoots on the mountain now?" Just mentioning pickled bamboo shoots made Su Nianxue feel much better.
"I don't know either, but I saw Sister Liu take two bamboo shoots down the mountain yesterday."
"Let's go up the mountain and give it a try. If we find something, we'll dig; if not, oh well." Gu Yanliu was quite easygoing; since they were just killing time anyway, they might as well go up the mountain for a stroll.

The three of them, carrying hoes and baskets, went to the bamboo forest behind the mountain.
It's already December.
By now, most of the leaves on the tree branches have fallen, leaving only a few scattered leaves hanging on the branches, swaying helplessly in the cold wind.
But the bamboo grove remained unaffected and continued to grow lush and green.
"Sister-in-law, be careful, the bamboo leaves here are very slippery." Gu Yanliu reminded her as they reached a downhill section.
"I understand." Su Nianxue followed her steps and took a big step as well.
Before she could finish speaking, Gu Yanbai grabbed the back of her clothes.
Su Nianxue was very unhappy. "No, Gu Yanbai, where are you grabbing? Do you think you're picking up a chick?"
"Who told you to take such a big step?"
I thought you were going to fall, so I grabbed you by the back of your collar in a moment of panic.
"Can you let go now?" Su Nianxue turned around and looked at him accusingly. "Are you trying to strangle me?!"
Gu Yanbai immediately let go of her hand, then grabbed her wrist instead. "Come on, let me lead you. It's very slippery here."
"Fine, fine, you can hold my hand." She didn't want him to pull her by the back of her collar anymore.
