Outside, Gu Yanliu dumped all the bayberries from the basket into a basin of water.
Hearing the door open, she acted as if nothing had happened and smiled, "Sister-in-law, come and have a taste."
Su Nianxue looked at her and her expression became more natural. "You and Hua'er just went to the mountain to pick bayberries?"
She picked up a dark-colored bayberry and put it in her mouth.
"Yes, the other day Hua'er said that the bayberry tree on the mountain was ripe."
I went up the mountain with her to pick them!
"How is it? Is it delicious?" Gu Yanliu added a handful of salt to the water, stirred it a few times, and made sure the bayberries were fully soaked.
"Hmm, it's alright! It's sweet and sour, quite delicious." She ate one, but it wasn't enough, so she picked up another one from the bowl and put it in her mouth.
Gu Yanliu: "By the way, when did my brother come back?"
Didn't you say you were going away for a few days?
See? Su Nianxue knew it; she wasn't the only one who thought so. "I just got home!"
He glanced casually at the watch on her wrist and chuckled, "Did my brother buy you a watch?"
"Yes!" Su Nianxue nodded, tugging at her sleeve to slightly conceal her watch.
“That’s great. You didn’t buy anything for your wedding, so my brother should make it up to you.”
"You brat, which family are you from?" Gu Yanbai heard this question as soon as he stepped out the door.
Are there any outsiders in this courtyard?
"Aren't we all one family?" Gu Yanliu rolled her eyes at him, too lazy to even acknowledge him.
"That's true." Gu Yanbai awkwardly touched his nose.
"That's just how it is. Everyone's like you, just spouting nonsense all day long."
Gu Yanliu wasn't one to back down easily; she gave him a disdainful sidelong glance.
"Haven't I beaten you up in a long time? Are you itching for a beating?"
Gu Yanbai was very unhappy with her attitude; he felt that he had recently lost some of his authority!
Otherwise, why would they all dare to provoke him?
"Go ahead and hit me, all you know is how to scare people with that trick." Gu Yanliu knew his personality; he was all talk and no action.
Aside from hitting her when she was little, I haven't hit her since she got older.
Anyway, Gu Yanliu wasn't afraid of him at all.
Su Nianxue watched the show with amusement. Seeing Gu Yanbai get the short end of the stick, she was in a great mood and picked up a bayberry from the basin and ate it.
"Be careful not to lose your teeth from the sensitivity and become a toothless old lady," Gu Yanbai said coolly as he sat down next to her.
It was actually a bit sour, and after eating this one, Su Nianxue didn't dare to eat any more.
She asked Gu Yanliu, "You picked so many, can we finish them all?"
"It's not for eating, isn't it for Grandpa and the others to drink?"
I picked some to make bayberry wine for them.
Gu Yanbai's lips curled slightly, "You brat, you still have a conscience."
It wasn't for nothing that I fed you with spoonfuls of rice porridge when you were little.
"Yes, yes, I know you are the greatest."
"You raised me from a young age, so why don't I take care of you in your old age?" Gu Yanliu teased.
"No, with your attitude, you'd better just send me away."
"Brother, people say that evil deeds last a thousand years, you will definitely live to be a hundred." Gu Yanliu said, clicking his tongue twice.
"Hey, you brat, you've even learned to insult people indirectly now."
Su Nianxue could no longer hold back her laughter and burst into laughter.
"You're still laughing? You two are just here to bring me bad luck," Gu Yanbai said irritably.
Su Nianxue picked up a bayberry from the basin and shoved it into his mouth with lightning speed. "Here, you should try one too!"
"Ptooey, what is this stuff? It's so sour!" Seeing that he was about to vomit, Su Nianxue quickly covered his mouth.
"Don't spit it out, eat it." Su Nianxue's mischievousness suddenly kicked in; she admitted she just wanted to see him grimace with jealousy.
But soon, her smile vanished as something warm was gently licking her palm.
What a shameless scoundrel!
As if burned, she immediately released her hand from his lips.
Gu Yanbai glanced at her smugly. With this level of skill, she thought she could fight him?
He slowly chewed the bayberry in his mouth, "Mmm, it's very sweet!"
Gu Yanliu was greatly surprised, "Brother, aren't you most afraid of sour things?"
You never used to eat this.
"You know it was in the past."
Besides, you're so controlling, you even dictate my tastes!
"I'm in a good mood today, so I think it tastes sweet. What's wrong with that?" Gu Yanbai raised his head high, looking like he was asking for a beating.
"Okay, you can eat it. I was just being nosy."
Listening to their conversation, Su Nianxue hurried to the kitchen; she couldn't bear to look directly at Gu Yanbai's face.
It was almost noon, so she washed her hands and went to the kitchen to cook.
Gu Yanliu continued, and by the time she finished cooking, her bayberries were also dried.
Once the moisture has evaporated, it's ready to be used to make medicinal wine.
I was taking a nap at noon when I heard a noise coming from the yard.
Su Nianxue ignored her and turned over, intending to continue sleeping.
But the sounds in the courtyard grew louder and louder, and Gu Yanliu's voice and a woman's crying could be faintly heard.
She touched the spot beside her; Gu Yanbai was no longer in bed.
Who is it?
Disturbing my peaceful sleep, how annoying!
She groggily got out of bed, intending to go to the yard to take a look.
At the gate, a middle-aged woman stood outside with tears in her eyes, carrying a large bag of things in her hand.
