Chapter 102 Damn it

Chapter 102 Damn it

Jiang Ye spat out the food, rinsed his mouth with the cup, and then turned to find Bai Chenzhu.

Bai Chenzhu was buttoning his shirt and tidying his clothes when he suddenly heard a soft voice say, "Oh my, baby, I never knew you were such a refined scoundrel."

Bai Chenzhu looked over, puzzled. "What is it now?"

Jiang Ye accused, "You're heartless after pulling out your penis..." The rest of his words were covered by his palm, and he only managed to let out a few sobs.

"Shut up, what's wrong with me just putting on some clothes?" Bai Chenzhu snapped at him, then moved her hand away and slid it down to straighten his disheveled clothes as well.

Jiang Ye pouted, somewhat dissatisfied, his eyes darting back and forth between Bai Chenzhu.

Bai Chenzhu saw through his little scheme, "You don't need to be so subtle if you want me to help you."

Jiang Ye grinned silently, revealing his white teeth, and mischievously played with Bai Chenzhu's tied-up long hair, curling the ends. The dark hair curled around his fingertips, adding a touch of allure.

He paused slightly, then turned and placed his thumb on Bai Chenzhu's lips, pressing it against her thin, red lips, making no attempt to conceal his desire.

"So soon?" Bai Chenzhu asked, his eyes lowered.

Jiang Ye's eyes narrowed, and he forcefully rubbed his soft lower lip with his fingertip. "Can you accept this?"

He remembered that Bai Chenzhu was a clean person who always wore light-colored clothes. Even if he fell, he would spend a long time dusting himself off. He hesitated to bring it up just now, but it would be a lie to say that he didn't think about it.

Bai Chenzhu was surprised by Jiang Ye's caution. He paused for a moment, chuckled, and slowly knelt down on one knee. "It's only fair to reciprocate."

He looked up at Jiang Ye's calm face. If it weren't for his rapid breathing and the Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed, he would have really thought Jiang Ye was very composed.

How interesting. Bai Chenzhu slowly stretched out his hand.

Jiang Ye stared at him like a jackal eyeing a piece of meat, starving.

A familiar scene, however unpleasant, played out again. A knock sounded at the door. Without waiting for an answer, Liang Haoran called out "Sir!" a few times before hastily pushing the door open, anxiously saying, "Sir! The zombie horde is here again! This time something's not right, the lord said..."

After he finished speaking, he realized that the room was silent.

Liang Haoran looked around the stagnant room, feeling uneasy. He opened his mouth, "Speak..."

Jiang Ye's expression shifted inscrutable as he stood behind his desk, his voice sinister as he asked, "What did you say?"

Bai Chenzhu stood up calmly, patted his knees, twirled a pen between his fingers, and placed it on the table, saying softly, "The pen fell."

Liang Haoran looked at Jiang Ye, who seemed off, with a huge question mark above his head. "Sir?"

Jiang Ye gritted his teeth and strode towards the door, "Damn it!"

I don't even know who they're cursing.

Bai Chenzhu smiled as she watched his unsatisfied expression, but Jiang Ye suddenly turned around, grabbed him, and pulled him to his side, saying, "Don't laugh! You're coming with me too."

Bai Chenzhu obediently replied, "Okay."

——

The Kangcheng base only occupies a piece of land in the south of Kangcheng. The edge is covered with cement and a wall is built. Humans have drawn a circle around themselves and live in a world inside the wall.

At this moment, from the high place, one can see the dark shadows swarming in like ants over the low wall.

Jiang Ye sighed deeply and methodically assigned tasks. He turned around and saw Bai Chenzhu looking down thoughtfully.

"A-Zhu?"

Bai Chenzhu was looking outside when Jiang Ye called out from the side. He glanced at Jiang Ye and stated his observation, "There is no leader among these zombies."

But it did happen; hundreds of zombies came from the west, in a bustling crowd.

“And rather than saying they came voluntarily, it’s more like they were ‘driven’ here,” he frowned.

Who drove them here? In the distance, there are lush mountains and forests, as well as a smooth and wide road.

Bai Chenzhu wondered: An alien race? Or another zombie king? If it were an alien race, it would be understandable; they'd love for humanity to perish so they could destroy the evidence. But what would an alien race use to 'drive corpses'? And if it were a zombie king that primarily devoured humans, why would it do such a thing?

Jiang Ye shared the same thought: "The zombie horde has been harassing us more and more frequently lately, so we need to go out and investigate."

In fact, he sent people to investigate the cause more than once. The people he sent out found a strange figure more than ten kilometers away from the base, but when he sent people out again, he could never pinpoint its location or whereabouts.

——

Two days later, a car wobbled out of the city gate.

Jiang Ye decided to personally lead the team to investigate, taking Liang Haoran, Tang Zhao, and Bai Tao with him, and also bringing Bai Chenzhu along.

His expanded mental energy allowed him to easily observe the situation, as if he had eyes that could fly into the sky. Bai Chenzhu returned to his comfort zone and pointed out the direction to Jiang Ye, the driver.

Countless ragged zombies brushed past them along the way, all running towards Kangcheng. They went against the flow of zombies, their vision blurred by darkness, which only fueled their growing sense of foreboding.

Liang Haoran, in the back seat, gripped his seatbelt tightly and repeatedly urged, "Sir, why don't we go back and bring more people?"

Jiang Ye replied perfunctorily, "Okay, you go back and find someone first, we'll head over there."

"No! The lord said I have to follow you." Liang Haoran refused again, and he ended up sidling up in the carriage.

Tang Zhao patted him on the shoulder, "Brother Jiang must have his reasons for doing this. Stop worrying about your group. Look, Bai Tao and I didn't lead any teams out either."

Liang Haoran hesitated for a moment, then said, "Even the smallest mercenaries have more than five people."

Speaking of this, Tang Zhao got excited. He raised his eyebrows and patted his chest proudly, "Haha! Back when we stormed the alien base, there were only three of us."

Bai Tao, who was sitting next to the car window, pouted, feeling regretful that she couldn't participate; otherwise, there would have been four people.

How cool is that? They've broken into someone else's base camp.

Liang Haoran's eyes widened in disbelief. "Three people?"

“That’s right!” Tang Zhao’s confidence swelled up like a ball in his eyes as he rattled off his past glorious achievements.

Jiang Ye listened with a blank expression, not thinking it was something to brag about. On the contrary, from a certain perspective, he thought it was incredibly stupid, especially the part where the three of them scattered and fled at the end. If there had been even a slight delay, allowing the alien race to react, they would have all been ruined.

To have survived is a stroke of luck.

As Bai Chenzhu listened, he smiled. He looked at Jiang Ye's expression, rummaged in his pocket, pulled out a lollipop, peeled it, and held it to Jiang Ye's lips. "Want some?"

Jiang Ye's eyes lit up, and he took a big bite, instantly feeling much better.

Amidst the casual conversation, a sudden clap of thunder shook the ground, causing rocks and soil to tumble down from distant mountaintops.

Jiang Ye slammed on the brakes, and the vehicle came to a stop.

Bai Tao, sitting in the back seat, leaned forward, rubbing her eyes in disbelief. "What's going on? There are two people?!"

Bai Chenzhu frowned.

Hundreds of meters away, two zombies, one small and one large, were wrestling together. The ordinary zombies around them were either kicked, knocked down, or sent flying, or had their brains gnawed off. Filthy black blood was splattered all over the ground, and limbs were scattered everywhere.

They tore and gnawed at everything in their path, leaving nothing but flattened ground before disappearing at the end of the road.

They were all a little stunned.

Tang Zhao asked incredulously, "Was I seeing things just now?"

Liang Haoran honestly stated what he saw: "I wasn't seeing things; we saw two zombies fighting."

“They are two zombie kings.” Bai Chenzhu pinched his fingertips and added, “The spiritual energy emanating from them is very close to that of ordinary people.”

This means that their abilities also surpass those of ordinary zombies.

"Should we go and take a look?" Bai Chenzhu asked Jiang Ye.

"What did you find?"

"Perhaps there are more than just those two zombie kings." Bai Chenzhu calmly dropped a bomb, stunning everyone.

Bai Tao stammered, "No, more than two? Then...then...should we go back?" She suddenly changed her mind and realized that Liang Haoran was right; there were too few of them!

"It's alright." Bai Chenzhu snapped his fingers. Bai Tao was one of only two psychic ability users in the car, and she easily noticed that Bai Chenzhu's psychic power was silently spreading up and covering the car completely.

Tang Zhao and Liang Haoran only vaguely sensed something, but they didn't understand it clearly. Bai Tao explained, "Mental shielding, Brother Bai has 'hidden' us all."

Jiang Ye smiled, glanced at Bai Chenzhu, and stepped on the gas.

The car continued along the uneven ground. The two zombie kings wrestled until they reached a stream. The stream was dyed bright red, and the ground was covered with hair, flesh, and limbs. The stench of decay permeated the air. The blue sky and the red ground created an eerie and striking contrast.

The battle ended with the death of the little zombie king, and the victor was enjoying his meal. But what was chilling was that several zombie kings were still gathered in the trees by the stream, eyeing the 'victor' menacingly.

Even without the aura of spiritual energy, it's still difficult to hide the commotion. Their car stopped a hundred meters away. Fortunately, the people in the car had good eyesight.

“At least seven.” Bai Chenzhu closed his eyes and counted his mental energy. “Including the one in front of him, there are eight zombie kings.”

Tang Zhao gasped, and Bai Tao's eyes widened. "Ah? Ah!"

“Now it’s obvious,” Jiang Ye finally understood what was going on. “It’s like raising poisonous insects; the zombies devour each other. When the zombie kings fight, the ordinary zombies suffer and are all ‘driven’ to a safe direction, which is the base.”

Just like predators in nature, zombies are also clearly divided according to their mental strength. They will fight to devour creatures that are similar to or weaker than themselves, but they will instinctively fear creatures with much higher mental strength than themselves.

When the eight zombie kings gather together, their mental strength is unprecedented, and the zombies will exhibit an unusual phenomenon: they will no longer rush forward, but instead move in the opposite direction.

“This isn’t right,” Liang Haoran said. “I’ve been in the base for so long, and I’ve never seen so many zombie kings appear all at once.”

Even if one were to raise Gu, it would be impossible to raise so many Gu Kings at the same time.

“Of course, that’s impossible under natural conditions,” Jiang Ye chuckled. “So we’re being targeted! Didn’t you see the iron bands around their necks? If I’m not mistaken, they even have numbers on them.”

“Obviously, they are all experimental subjects of the alien race. I just don’t know what the difference is between this batch of zombie kings and the wild ones,” Bai Chenzhu said with a deep look in his eyes. “Let’s catch one and take it back for Sister Zhuohua and the others to study.”

“Okay,” Jiang Ye replied easily.

The three people in the back seat were completely bewildered. "Grab...grab what?"

Before they could react, Jiang Ye rubbed his hands together, eager to get started, and asked Bai Chenzhu, "Pick one you like."

Bai Chenzhu pondered, his eyes darting back and forth between the eight zombie kings, his gaze rising and falling.

Tang Zhao, clinging to the back of the front seat with a long face, said, "Brother, don't make it sound so simple! We're here to investigate, not to sell vegetables at the market."

"What grocery shopping?" Jiang Ye continued before Tang Zhao could even catch his breath, "You're ruining the atmosphere, it's clearly just shopping."

"I want that one." Bai Chenzhu pointed to a small figure in the distance, a rather cute-looking boy—if you ignored his blood-red eyes and scarred face.

He was squatting on a large rock by the stream, chewing on a severed arm in his hands, his eyes devoid of reason and emotion, filled only with an insatiable appetite.

That's the zombie king that won the fight just now.

“Alright.” Jiang Ye didn’t ask why. “Here’s what we’ll do: you lure it over here alone, and we’ll find an open space to tie it up.”

Just as Bai Chenzhu was about to agree, Bai Tao hurriedly raised her hand and said in a booming voice, "Let me do it!"

"You?" Bai Chenzhu wasn't objecting, but rather puzzled. "Isn't your mental power primarily for attack?"

"Hmph! Watch me." Bai Tao was eager to try. Her mental power pierced through Bai Chenzhu's membrane and rushed to the little zombie.

Then, under the little zombie's questioning yet eager gaze, he slapped the little zombie twice on the head.

The car swerved sharply, then sped off, leaving a defiant trail of mental energy. The little zombie roared, leaped off the large rock, and chased after the car's exhaust fumes on all fours.

Bai Tao was incredibly proud, raising her chin, "How about that!"

Silence fell over the car. Jiang Ye found it amusing, Tang Zhao was dumbfounded, and Liang Haoran was in a daze.

Only Bai Chenzhu applauded enthusiastically, praising, "A new usage? Impressive." The insult was strong enough, and the attack power was sufficient.

Just as Bai Tao was about to speak, she lost her balance and fell onto her seat, the strong jolt of the impact jolting everyone awake.

Bai Chenzhu gripped the seatbelt. "What's going on?"

Jiang Ye glanced at the rearview mirror and frowned. "It's catching up."

The speed was much faster than anyone expected.
