Chapter 162 Taking the Money

Liu Aiguo has been hospitalized for so long, and none of his many children have come to the hospital to take care of him. Not to mention taking care of him, they haven't stepped into the hospital since the day he was sent there.

Now, whenever Liu Aiguo comes home and sees his happy family, his temper flares up instantly.

Liu Aiguo: "A bunch of unfilial sons and daughters! I'm lying in the hospital, and none of you go to see me. You're all enjoying yourselves at home. How can you live with yourselves? You'll be punished by heaven and struck by lightning later!"

Liu Jiaqi and Liu Jiahui felt extremely uncomfortable upon hearing these words.

Liu Jiaqi: "Is it that we don't want to go? What can we do? It's because we didn't have rich and capable parents! We can only earn money to support our families ourselves! If you were as rich and capable as my second aunt, third aunt, and uncle, not to mention as rich as them, even half of their wealth would be enough. I would even take care of you at home every day."

Liu Jiahui: "We're being unfilial! Aren't you the most filial? You treat your grandparents like this, right? We all learned from you. Didn't you say you were the most filial son? How come we're considered unfilial for doing this? It's a double standard! Only officials are allowed to set fires, while commoners are forbidden to light lamps!"

Liu Jiale: "Dad, don't worry. You didn't suffer divine retribution or be struck by lightning, so we certainly won't either."

These words were extremely hurtful, piercing Liu Aiguo's heart. Liu Aiguo was so angry that he trembled upon hearing them.

Xu Hongxing felt a chill run down his spine upon hearing this. It seemed these children were unreliable.

Seeing Liu Aiguo so angry, a group of onlookers acted as if they hadn't seen anything.

It was as if the person who was furious was not their biological father, but a stranger.

Even in his anger, Liu Aiguo was helpless. He couldn't win an argument, and he couldn't move to fight. Even if his legs weren't broken, he still couldn't win.

So, besides getting angry, Xu Hongxing didn't care about anything else. He just pushed Liu Aiguo onto the bed and left, tidied up, and went to work, not returning until dark.

Liu Aiguo, who had been lying in bed, was starving and almost dying of thirst, became furious the moment he saw Xu Hongxing.

She grabbed a pillow from the side and threw it at him, yelling, "Where have you been? Don't you know I'm home? You didn't cook or pour water!"

Xu Hongxing dodged to the side and quietly watched him go crazy. "I'm going to work. During your hospital stay, I spent all my money and borrowed a lot. If I don't work, I won't even be able to afford food."

Liu Aiguo hadn't expected that Xu Hongxing was already broke. "What about those unfilial sons and daughters?"

Xu Hongxing: "I don't know, didn't they come back to cook? I thought they would cook for you when they were home."

Hearing this, Liu Aiguo got angry. "You've been out gallivanting around, never home. Why don't you just die out there? Go get me a glass of water, then go cook."

Xu Hongxing: "Okay."

After saying that, he went to the living room to pour water for Liu Aiguo, and then went to the kitchen to take a look.

Besides the rice in the rice container, there were only some dried vegetables in the house; I didn't see any fresh vegetables at all.

It seems that no one has cooked at home for a long time; the family hasn't cooked a single meal while she's been taking care of Liu Aiguo at the hospital.

Xu Hongxing was too lazy to serve Liu Aiguo. He grabbed a handful of rice, didn't even rinse it, added water, plugged in the electric stove to cook it, and then grabbed a handful of dried green beans and put them on the gas stove to stew. He didn't even wash them.

Once the water boiled, I turned off the gas and left it there to soak in the water while I did my bath and laundry.

Liu Aiguo, meanwhile, waited in bed until the flowers withered. When Xu Hongxing finally brought in the food, he saw that there was only one dish, a thin, watery soup of dried green beans, and his face immediately fell.

Liu Aiguo: "You're just going to give me this to eat?"

Xu Hongxing: "We're out of vegetables at home, this is all we have."

Liu Aiguo felt so angry he was dizzy. "Can't you go buy some groceries? What's wrong with your brain? Can't you think outside the box?"

Xu Hongxing: "It's too late now, there are no vegetables left to sell."

Liu Aiguo was about to break down, "Couldn't you just go to the store and get some food?"

Xu Hongxing: "I'm out of money."

Liu Aiguo choked, "You don't even have enough money to buy a meal?"

Xu Hongxing: "I spent all my money on the taxi ride back yesterday, and I don't even have money left for the bus."

Upon hearing this, Liu Aiguo fell silent, gave up struggling, took the rice and ate it with the soup. He was starving; he had eaten some porridge that morning and hadn't eaten anything since.

Seeing Liu Aiguo's state, Xu Hongxing went to hang up the laundry. She just found it funny. If she hadn't found Liu Aiguo's money, she wouldn't have known that he had more than a thousand yuan. Now that she knew the family couldn't even afford to eat, he remained silent.

He didn't say he had any money left to help in an emergency, even though she had spent all her money on his hospital stay and was still in debt.

Now Xu Hongxing has completely given up hope; there's no one in this family he can rely on.

After Liu Aiguo finished eating, Xu Hongxing threw the bowl into the kitchen and then went straight to bed.

She needed to find a way to make more money. She couldn't rely on the Liu family anymore, and there was no hope for Liu Aidang's shop and house, so she had to find another way out.

Before Xu Hongxing could come up with a solution, he heard voices outside. It was Liu Jiaqi and the others returning, but Xu Hongxing pretended not to hear them.

I glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already nine o'clock. Time to sleep; I had to go to work tomorrow.

The next morning, Xu Hongxing secretly got up, washed up, went downstairs and ate a bowl of hot breakfast before going to work.
