Chapter 54 Moving

A week later, Old Man Qin was finally discharged from the hospital. Since he still needed injections, Qin Fen and Wang Meifen decided to pick him up after get off work.

So when they returned, it was the busiest time in the courtyard. They saw Old Qin with a bandage on his forehead, several bruises on his face, and drooping bags under his eyes. He clearly hadn't slept well for days; his face was pale, and if you looked closely, his lips were chapped. He had no energy whatsoever. The main problem was that he hadn't dared to drink much water these past few days, because drinking water meant needing to urinate immediately—and the experience was...unpleasant, absolutely awful.

Everyone watched like they were watching a monkey. After all, the Qing Dynasty had been gone for many years, and they had never seen a eunuch before. This should be similar to a eunuch!

Old Qin was filled with shame and indignation upon seeing those solid lines, but he couldn't say anything. He limped home as fast as he could. In short, his appearance was beyond description; it was utterly miserable.

Even the men watching the spectacle felt pain, and unconsciously clenched their legs together.

Qin Fen and Wang Jiabao helped Old Man Qin up, while Wang Meifen carried Old Man Qin's things. As soon as they entered the room, they saw the food that Old Lady Wang had prepared. It was obvious that nothing had been prepared for them. The three of them didn't say much, put their things aside, helped Old Man Qin lie down on the bed, and went back to cook.

The courtyard became lively again because of Old Man Qin's return.

When Yu's father saw Qin's appearance, he couldn't help but gasp. He had also been injured on the battlefield, but his injury was much more serious than Qin's, but he hadn't looked as miserable as Qin. Yu's father immediately understood why Qin was afraid to drink water; it was just too pitiful.

"Are your houses almost ready?"

"It should be ready in about another week."

Yu Qianhe was handling all of this; Liu Yun really didn't know anything about it. She only sent a batch of fruit trees and some honeysuckle trees over on weekends, and then she didn't care about anything else. It was mushroom picking season, and she was picking mushrooms in her space every day to send to Yu's mother to make mushroom sauce. Her meat coupons were almost used up, but luckily Yu's mother helped her out.

“Your mom went to choose an auspicious date for you, and it'll be next weekend! I'll borrow a car then, and we'll invite the second and third sons, as well as Xiao Zhang and the others, and move there all at once.”

"Okay, then Mom, could you ask my sister-in-law and the others to help me out? I'm afraid I won't be able to manage cooking, so let's pack our things this weekend. Are there any customs or traditions associated with moving?" Liu Yun agreed, but she really didn't know if there were any customs or traditions associated with moving.

"We don't need to be so particular about these things now. Just go there and have a simple meal. But you should tell your family first."

"good."

On Sunday, Liu Yun went to take a look. The yard had changed a lot. The surrounding fence had been removed and replaced with a wall. Fruit trees were planted around the wall, interspersed with honeysuckle. Wild chrysanthemums and mint were planted on the left. Next to the mint, a small sandpit was dug and filled with sand. The cement path in the middle was paved with pebbles, which was done by Yu's mother.

The second floor of the house was also renovated, with a railing installed so that clothes and blankets can be dried easily, and it's safer to go up and get things.

The floor has been completely paved with cement. The furniture hasn't been delivered yet, but the stove has been built and the kitchen ash has been swept away, making it look much cleaner.

There was still a lot of coal left over from Aunt Zhang and the others at the bottom of the stairs, so they bought it.

Once the furniture arrives, everything will be almost done. Looking around, Liu Yun felt full of energy and wanted to get things done quickly so she wouldn't have to have to speak secretly at home anymore.

Once the reform and opening up take place, we'll level this little courtyard and build a small villa—a proper riverside villa, how awesome!

When Liu Yun got home, she and her mother started packing. They could empty out the wardrobe and just leave a few outfits for Liu to wear outside.

When Yu's mother saw Liu Yun open the wardrobe and pull out a box from under the bed, even though she already knew from her past life that this daughter-in-law was quite extravagant, and she also knew that she often made clothes in this life, she still felt envious when she saw it.

She had seen many good things in her previous life and knew that the country would develop rapidly in the future, but she still envied her daughter-in-law when she saw her thick, white cotton quilts.

"Liu Yun, do you have any more fabric? It doesn't have to be fancy, it can be used to make a duvet cover, even homespun cloth will do."

Liu Yun thought that her mother was being generous by wanting to make a quilt cover, so she said, "Yes, Mom, you want to make a quilt cover? I'll go find one, and you can choose one yourself later."

Yu's mother rolled her eyes at her, "How big is your heart? Why don't you make a duvet cover and sew it on the quilts to cover them up? There are so many quilts, and they're so thick. It'll be obvious that they're all new cotton. Don't you need to air your quilts out? Isn't this just blatantly telling people that there's something wrong with them? Wrap the quilts inside as well. When you wash the duvet cover and air the quilts, there will be an inner layer so outsiders won't know what kind of cotton is inside. It's safe and prevents them from getting dirty."

Liu Yun suddenly realized, "I can't handle all of this! Can't we just put on all the duvet covers first? I have duvet covers."

"Find out the homespun cloth! I'll make you a few with Grandma Fu these next few days."

"Thank you, Mom." Liu Yun gratefully hugged her mother's arm and acted coquettishly.

"Alright, hurry up and go find them, then pack these things up." Yu's mother nudged her, continuing to pack. The more she looked, the more envious she became. Good heavens, the couple each had a suitcase full of cotton-padded coats! This girl alone had eight woolen overcoats, all quite nice and unlikely to go out of style in the future. She had good taste. Her son also had four, and they were even matching styles—in the future, wouldn't that be called couple's outfits? They were quite savvy.

Upon receiving the shoes, Yu's mother was no longer envious. There were six or seven pairs of leather shoes, and a whole box of cloth shoes for the couple in spring and autumn, and winter. Luckily, they had many boxes at home that could be sealed up; otherwise, if they had been left out, they would have attracted a lot of jealousy.
