A rare hint of annoyance appeared on Su Yiqing's usually calm and composed face. Su Ruanruan blinked her big eyes and said, "Big brother, go ahead and do what you need to do. Ruanruan is four years old now and can sleep by herself!"
Su Yiqing smiled gently and pinched her chubby little face. "Ruanruan is such a good girl. Big brother will read you another story."
As he spoke, he picked up the storybook from the bedside table and began to read softly.
Su Ruanruan obediently closed her eyes.
A moment later, Su Yiqing heard the cute little bundle on the bed breathing evenly.
He quietly turned off the light, then turned on the nightlight, before gently leaving the little dumpling's room.
On his way back to the second floor, he kept thinking about what the little dumpling had said. Could it be that... Su Xiaowu really didn't even know where he had gone wrong?
He needs to tell him where he went wrong first.
For the first time, he began to wonder if Su Xiaowu was hungry or scared, being locked alone in a dark basement without having eaten dinner.
He was flipping through documents on the desk in front of him, but hadn't turned a single page for a long time. He stood up, wanting to go and see Su Xiaowu.
He hesitated for a moment, but then sat down.
If we let that kid off so easily, even if he knows what he did wrong, he won't remember it.
We need to teach him a lesson first.
With that thought in mind, he sat back down in his executive chair and began flipping through the documents.
Su Ruanruan wasn't actually asleep. Not long after Su Yiqing left her room, she quietly slipped out of bed. Seeing that her older brother had gone into the study and hadn't come out, she sighed and shook her head.
I went downstairs by myself and cooked a bowl of noodles with the help of Aunt Xiang.
I took the noodles to the basement.
"who?"
She had barely reached the basement, making only the slightest sound of her footsteps, when she heard the young man's wary questioning voice, which even had a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.
She felt a pang of sympathy. The little boy always acted like he would never admit defeat in front of his older brother, but he must have been scared to be locked up in this dark basement all by himself!
"Little brother, it's me," she replied softly, while asking Aunt Xiang to shine the flashlight towards the small dark room where the little brother was being held.
"Ruanruan, what brings you here?" Su Xiaowu's voice was filled with obvious joy.
But only for a moment, he said worriedly, "It's very late now, isn't it? Did you come alone? Be careful, there are a lot of things piled up here, don't trip over them."
Su Ruanruan felt a warm feeling in her heart; in fact, the young man wasn't a bad person at heart.
She carried the noodles to the small dark room, which had a window that only allowed Su Xiaowu to peek out.
Su Xiaowu poked her head out and saw the tray she was carefully holding, and couldn't help but swallow.
The little dumpling smiled sweetly and said, "Big brother, I've brought you some food."
As she spoke, she handed the noodles to Su Xiaowu through the window, while she herself stood on tiptoe outside shining a flashlight on him. She then said very seriously to A Xiang, "Auntie A Xiang, you should go back first. I have something to tell my little brother."
Although Ah Xiang was a little worried, after spending these days together, she knew that Su Ruanruan was more capable and sensible than other children, so she told her to shout if anything happened and then left.
While wolfing down his noodles, Su Xiaowu mumbled to Xiao Ruanruan, "Ruanruan, is there something you want to tell your brother? Did some brat at school bully you again? Tell your big brother, and he'll teach him a lesson!"
