Chapter Sixty-Seven: Background
Hearing her explanation, Si Jiliang scoffed coldly, but didn't delve into her clumsy lie.
Just then, the person in charge of dispensing the medicine suddenly spoke up, "I'm sorry, there's only one dose of fritillaria cirrhosa in the prescription, you see..."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran smiled slightly: "It's alright, first come, first served."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Si Jiliang spoke up from the side, saying, "Give it to her."
Jiang Ran was taken aback, then turned to look at Si Jiliang with some surprise.
Didn't he always dislike me? Why would he voluntarily step down?
Si Jiliang, however, paid no attention to her scrutiny and acted as if he hadn't seen it.
Jiang Ran suddenly lowered her eyes and chuckled softly, guessing that he probably had the same starting point, and was ultimately thinking about Old Master Si's health.
Thinking about this, I have gained a new understanding of Si Jiliang.
She really is... all bark and no bite.
"Thank you." Jiang Ran smiled slightly, then patted Si Jiliang lightly.
The moment they made contact, Jiang Ran looked up at him, her face showing surprise.
This is……
Feeling her touch him, Si Jiliang frowned, turned away, and said coldly, "Stay away from me."
His tone was cold and showed no mercy to Jiang Ran.
Jiang Ran seemed not to hear, a look of shock in her eyes. She awkwardly lowered her hand and looked down into thought.
She had clearly felt the flow of spiritual energy within Si Jiliang's body just now.
How can spiritual power appear in an ordinary person?
He secretly made hand gestures to calculate his fate, but it was as if his past had been deliberately erased, and he could neither see his past nor his future.
How could she not have foreseen this? Could it be that he's also a follower of metaphysics, someone who shares the same philosophy?
Seeing her staring blankly at him, Si Jiliang's eyes flashed with displeasure: "What are you looking at?"
Jiang Ran snapped out of her daze and quickly turned her head away: "It's nothing."
Si Jiliang scoffed coldly, full of disdain, but did not pursue the matter further.
A sense of unease flashed through Jiang Ran's heart. If he and she were of the same nature, was it possible that they would have the same fate?
He immediately shook his head, clearing his mind of thoughts.
She's really obsessed; how could she even think of that? It's just that her fate is unusual.
Then, she pulled herself out of her thoughts and looked down at the pharmacist dispensing the medicine.
"Alright." The pharmacist handed the medicine to the two people respectively.
After leaving the house, Jiang Ran looked at Si Jiliang and suddenly asked, "Are you also getting medicine for the old man?"
Si Jiliang's expression changed, and he replied coldly, "What's it to you?"
Jiang Ran pursed her lips, chuckled softly, but didn't respond, turning and leaving on her own.
Si Jiliang watched her retreating figure, a thoughtful look in his eyes, before walking towards the parking lot.
After leaving, Jiang Ran returned to the villa, burned the talisman to ashes and added it to the Chinese herbal medicine, then crushed the medicine and rolled it into pills.
The servants passing by noticed her unusual behavior, but none of them went to her aid.
Jiang Ran didn't care about their attitude at all. After finishing her business, she drove directly to deliver the goods to Old Master Si.
"Madam?" The maid at Old Master Si's residence looked surprised when she saw Jiang Ran. "What brings you here?"
Jiang Ran smiled slightly and explained softly, "Delivering medicine. Where's the old man?"
The maid pointed to the second floor and replied, "In the study. A guest just arrived. I'll go and inform him."
"No need." Jiang Ran waved her hand, her gaze sweeping over the familiar car, and said softly, "I'll go by myself."
The maid hesitated for a moment, then heard Jiang Ranfu say again, "I know him."
"Okay." The maid nodded slightly, and Jiang Ran walked upstairs.
The study door was ajar. Jiang Ran was about to knock when she suddenly heard Si Jiliang's cold voice from inside.
"Don't worry, I'll try my best not to appear in front of you in the future. Today was just a coincidence."
Jiang Ran paused slightly, then lowered her hand and stood outside the door listening to the sounds coming from inside.
"Ah Ji, that's not what I meant..." Old Master Si was about to explain when Si Jiliang interrupted him.
"Don't call me Aji! You don't deserve it!"
Jiang Ran listened to Si Jiliang's sudden outburst of anger, a hint of doubt flashing across her face.
Although she wasn't close to him, she could tell that he actually cared a lot about Old Master Si; otherwise, he wouldn't have warned her again and again.
But why is the attitude like this now?
Upon hearing this, Old Master Si sighed softly. Far from being angry, a hint of guilt flashed across his face as he replied in a low voice, "Alright..."
"I didn't mean anything by it, and I didn't intentionally not inform you today. It's just that there were a lot of people coming, and I was worried..."
"What are you worried about?" Si Jiliang interrupted him directly: "Are you worried about being discovered, so you want me to avoid suspicion?"
"No!" Old Master Si quickly denied.
Si Jiliang acted as if he hadn't heard, and sneered, "It's alright, no need to explain. Anyway, I don't care. Not everyone wants to curry favor with your Si family."
"If I could, I'd rather not believe Si!"
"Ji Liang, you've misunderstood me." Old Master Si quickly explained, "I'm not trying to avoid suspicion, I'm just afraid that if the media sees this, it will cause you unnecessary trouble."
Jiang Ran, listening at the door, was startled. He had actually changed how he addressed Si Jiliang because of a single sentence.
"It doesn't matter," Si Jiliang replied coldly. "You just need to take your medicine on time. You're not worthy to see my mother yet."
After saying that, he was about to turn and leave when Old Master Si suddenly coughed violently, causing Si Jiliang to frown slightly.
Old Master Si quickly spoke up to stop him: "You...you wait a minute."
Si Jiliang paused, then asked in a cold voice, "Is there anything else?"
After slowly calming his cough, Old Master Si asked in a hoarse voice, "Do you still hate me?"
Upon hearing this, Si Jiliang's hands clenched involuntarily, and he suddenly let out a cold laugh: "What do you think?"
Old Master Si pursed his lips and slowly said, "I really never thought of abandoning you."
"Nothing?" Si Jiliang turned to look at him, her eyes filled with coldness, and questioned him sharply, "What about my mother after you just left! Do you know how difficult it was for a woman to be pregnant in that era!"
"Do you know how she endured the ridicule of the neighbors and raised me all by herself!"
Si Jiliang couldn't control his emotions for a moment, his eyes filled with fierceness.
Knowing he was in the wrong, Old Master Si lowered his eyes, his face revealing unconcealed sadness.
"Stop pretending! If you really felt guilty, why did you leave without ever coming back? If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have saved you back then!" Si Jiliang accused angrily from the side.
Hearing his accusations, Old Master Si felt as if his heart was being squeezed tightly, making it hard to breathe.
He had only two children in his life, one of whom was in a coma and the other regarded him as an enemy. His life was truly laughable!
"I'm going back..." Old Master Si's eyes reddened, and his voice trembled with emotion.
“There was war at the time. I went back later, but the house had been bombed to the ground. I inquired for a long time but couldn’t find any news about your mother.”
“I stayed there for more than a year looking for you. I finally ran into someone I knew, only to be told that the area had been destroyed by enemy planes and everyone had perished in the fire.”
"I thought..."
"What did you think?" Si Jiliang's lips curled slightly, his tone unfriendly: "You thought we were dead? Then why did you abandon her and go back alone! Why couldn't you take her with you!"
Grandpa Si shook his head and gently wiped his reddened eyes: "Whether you believe it or not, I truly love her."
"Heh..." Si Jiliang scoffed coldly, his face full of disdain: "The person is dead, what's the point of saying this?"
Knowing he felt guilty, Old Master Si lowered his gaze and slowly said, "Would you like to hear about the past?"
Fearing he might refuse, she continued, "It's about your mother."
A hint of emotion flashed across Si Jiliang's face, and after struggling for a moment, he still chose to sit down.
“Your mother is a very good person. When I was wounded in the army, it was thanks to her tireless care that I was able to recover. During our time together, we developed feelings for each other.”
"So you let her become a mistress because you developed feelings for her over time?" Si Jiliang said sarcastically, a cold glint in his eyes.
"She's not!" Old Master Si suddenly became agitated: "My marriage to Ayan's mother was arranged by our parents and she passed away due to illness. I can't bear to leave Ayan here all alone."
“I was thinking of having your mother come with me, but she refused, saying that it was the place where she was born and raised, and she couldn’t bear to leave it.”
"So I compromised and decided to bring Ayan along, and take care of things here, but I never expected..."
That meeting turned out to be a final farewell.
After saying that, her eyes welled up with tears in the blink of an eye, and a look of sorrow appeared on her face.
