☆, Chapter Thirty-Seven: Hidden Intentions?

Just then, a sudden storm broke out, with thunder rumbling, lightning flashing, and torrential rain pouring down.

Si Zuochen looked at what lay before him and felt that everything within his sight was incredibly dark.

At the same time, the aura of the white tiger suddenly appeared on his body, forming a barrier around them and keeping out all the dangers around them.

The rain was pouring down harder and harder, and the dim lighting obscured his vision.

He looked outside but couldn't see anything. He could only hold Si Youlin tightly, trying to give him some warmth.

Against the backdrop of the gloomy weather, a black, misty hand slowly approached them, just about to touch Si Youlin's shoulder.

Jiang Ran's shouts suddenly came from afar.

"Si Zuochen!"

The moment she spoke, the storm and gloom instantly vanished, leaving only the darkness of night. Even the chill she had felt earlier disappeared without a trace.

Upon hearing the sound, Si Zuochen snapped back to reality and looked up in the direction from which it came.

Jiang Ran walked quickly toward him, with Gu Nan following behind.

When she arrived, it was as if she had broken through the barrier in front of him, and Si Zuochen, who had been somewhat confused, instantly became clear-headed.

Jiang Ran walked quickly to them and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the two of them together.

Fu then looked at Si Youlin, noticing the unusual flush on his cheeks. He frowned and asked sharply, "What's wrong with him?"

Si Zuochen was still immersed in what he had just seen when he heard the question and quickly came back to his senses.

"I don't know either. On the way back to the villa, I started to feel chills, then I started to have a fever, and my consciousness began to become hazy."

"Was it sudden?" Jiang Ran asked. "Did anything happen along the way?"

“Hmm, halfway through…” Si Zuochen pondered for a moment, then replied, “We met an old woman along the way. Strangely enough, she asked Ah Lin for the charm on her schoolbag.”

Upon hearing this, a look of understanding flashed across Jiang Ran's face.

That explains it. No wonder Si Youlin suddenly fell ill like this; it turns out she was behind it all.

The pendant was something Si Youlin carried with him. Such a thing was useless to ordinary people, but to people of the metaphysical kind, holding his pendant was equivalent to holding his lifeline.

This practice originated from ancient witchcraft and is similar to the practice of sticking pins in voodoo dolls.

Jiang Ran reached out and touched Si Youlin's forehead, which was burning hot. Then she began to check his body for any traces of witchcraft.

Seeing her strange behavior, Si Zuochen quickly reached out to stop her and said coldly, "What are you doing?"

"Check him for any injuries."

Si Zuochen frowned and sneered, "What's the point of your examination? Are you even a doctor?"

He then looked at Gu Nan and asked, "Uncle Gu Nan, where's your car? We need to go to the nearest hospital."

"The car is quite far away, so we walked here. Don't worry, I'll contact someone right away."

As Gu Nan spoke, she took out her phone and called her subordinate.

"There's no signal here..." Si Zuochen reminded him.

As soon as he finished speaking, the phone rang from the receiver.

Upon seeing this, Si Zuochen quickly took two steps and snatched Gu Nan's phone. When he saw that the signal strength was full, he froze on the spot.

Then she murmured softly, "How...how could this happen?"

Gu Nan raised an eyebrow when her phone was suddenly taken from her, and asked, "Ah Chen?"

Immediately afterwards, I saw his blank and shocked expression, and I heard the voice of the person on the other end of the receiver asking questions.

Gu Nan reached out and took it: "We're in the park in the old town right now. I'll send you the location, and I'll be right there."

Then he hung up the phone.

He patted Si Zuochen on the shoulder and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Si Zuochen looked up at him, his eyes full of surprise: "How come there's a signal?"

Gu Nan was taken aback by his question: "It's always been there, the signal area covers the whole city, how could it not be there?"

Jiang Ran tilted her head slightly, looked at Si Zuochen's incredulous face, pursed her lips, and continued what she was doing.

After the examination, he took out a silver needle from his backpack.

Si Zuochen fell into self-doubt. Gu Nan's eyes flashed when she saw this scene, and she subconsciously wanted to speak up to stop him.

"what you do?"

Hearing the sound, Si Zuochen snapped out of his daze and quickly turned to look.

Then Jiang Ran was seen holding a silver needle, attempting to do something indecent to Si Youlin.

He quickly walked up to her, slapped her hand away, and demanded sharply, "What do you think you're doing?"

Jiang Ran paused, her face showing displeasure: "I'm the only one here who can save him right now. Are you sure you want to stop me?"

Si Zuochen met her gaze head-on, showing no fear whatsoever: "You want to save him? You'd be more likely to harm him."

"Don't think I don't know what you're here for. To take advantage of someone in distress? I advise you to give up on that idea."

"A weasel offering New Year's greetings to a chicken is up to no good."

Si Zuochen's words were full of sarcasm towards Jiang Ran, showing no mercy whatsoever.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran scoffed coldly: "Is this what you think?"

She looked at him seriously, her eyes cold and sharp: "I'm asking you, what did you see before we arrived?"

Si Zuochen was suddenly startled, thinking of the storm that had vanished as soon as they appeared.

In the brief moment he was stunned, Jiang Ran swiftly pierced Si Youlin's body with a silver needle.

By the time Si Zuochen realized what was happening and tried to stop her, it was too late. He watched as Jiang Ran completed a series of actions.

Her movements were skillful; when she inserted the needles, it was as if she knew the acupoints, and she did so without the slightest hesitation.

When did she acquire this skill?

Si Zuochen looked puzzled, then quickly stepped forward to help Si Youlin up and check if there was anything wrong.

He didn't seem to be in as much pain as before, and his body temperature seemed to have calmed down a bit, no longer burning hot.

Gu Nan watched this scene unfold, her gaze towards Jiang Ran now filled with scrutiny and inquiry.

How much more do they not know about her?

From the beginning of today, she seemed very decisive. Apart from the slight rush in the race against time just now, everything seemed to be going according to her plan.

The same applies to suddenly realizing that they are in danger.

Jiang Ran ignored the doubts of the two people around her, left the needle in her body for a moment, and then pulled it out.

Sure enough, the needle tip turned black, just as expected.

Si Zuochen, who was standing nearby, saw this detail and his pupils dilated sharply. He asked abruptly, "What's going on?"

Although he didn't understand medicine, he knew that the blackening of silver needles was a symptom of poisoning, but Si Youlin clearly had a fever.

How can a fever cause the skin to turn black?

Jiang Ran glanced at him sideways and said coldly, "Now you know to ask me?"

The implication was that he was condemning the mockery and distrust the man had just shown him.
