Chapter Thirty-Six: The Taoist Priest?

Chapter Thirty-Six: The Taoist Priest?

Si Zuochen knew perfectly well that Si Youlin was delirious with fever and talking nonsense. Even if he couldn't hear what Si Youlin was saying and was just talking to himself, he still responded to every word.

Si Youlin mumbled a few words and then suddenly stopped. Seeing this, Si Zuochen quickly nudged him.

"Ah Lin, don't sleep! Please don't sleep!"

Si Youlin shook his head and mumbled, "Brother, I feel so bad. Just let me take a nap, just a little while."

"No!" Si Zuochen suddenly raised his voice, but when he realized that he was talking to a patient, he softened his tone and said softly, "Don't sleep, talk to your brother."

"But I feel so bad, I'm so tired..." Si Youlin felt both cold and hot, and his head was spinning.

He couldn't hear clearly what Si Zuochen was saying, and could only subconsciously respond with a sound or two.

"You mean they're in danger right now?"

After hearing Jiang Ran's speculation, Gu Nan asked in a deep voice.

"Yes, so we have to hurry!"

"Get in the car!" Gu Nan said, turning around and walking towards the driver's seat. Jiang Ran followed closely behind and got into the back seat.

Gu Nan stepped on the gas, leaving only a blur of the car behind.

"Is the location accurate?" Jiang Ran suddenly asked.

Gu Nan shook her head and replied, "No, we can only see the general location, but I've already sent more people this way after I found the location."

"Once the person arrives, finding them will only be a matter of time."

“No!” Jiang Ran frowned slightly and shook her head: “Waiting for others to arrive would be too late.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan glanced at her suspiciously in the rearview mirror, wondering how she knew something would happen at this time.

Just as I was about to ask her a question, I saw her take out a pen and several talismans from her bag.

Seeing her actions, Gu Nan looked puzzled, thinking that she was preparing to use this superstition to pray to gods and Buddhas.

He couldn't help but say coldly, "You still believe in this? You'd be better off using this time to find someone. You should rely on yourself rather than pray to God."

Jiang Ran listened to his words as if she hadn't heard them, and quietly continued drawing talismans with her pen.

Seeing that she wouldn't listen to reason, Gu Nan didn't bother arguing with her anymore, but simply increased the car's speed a little.

Jiang Ran's drawing of talismans was completely unaffected.

Gu Nan couldn't help but glance at her in the rearview mirror.

Why did he end up on her team? Knowing she's unreliable, he should have just gone alone…

Just as he finished his internal monologue, Jiang Ran paused, rolled down the car window, held the talisman in one hand, lit it outside the window, and it instantly turned to ashes.

Gu Nan's expression froze, and her previous disdainful look instantly turned into surprise.

If he wasn't mistaken, it seemed she only held the talisman on the outside, right?

How did the talisman burn when there was nothing in my hand that could be used to start a fire?

Moreover, given how fast he was driving, even if he used a lighter, the wind would have extinguished it.

Could it be that the paper would ignite if exposed to the wind?

Gu Nan was still in shock when Jiang Ran closed her eyes, sensing the change in the atmosphere around her, and quickly said, "Stop the car!"

Given the rather dramatic scene just now, Gu Nan slammed on the brakes without thinking, and the two of them lurched forward at the same time.

Jiang Ran frowned, glanced at him, and turned to get out of the car.

Gu Nan followed closely behind, watching her stand still and look ahead. He followed her gaze but saw nothing.

Unable to resist asking, "What are you looking at? Why did you suddenly stop?"

Jiang Ran lowered her eyes, looking at the wisp of smoke that was guiding the way; it was left behind by the talisman from earlier.

As the talisman burned out, she also clearly felt the imprisonment signal malfunction.

It seems certain that someone did this intentionally, and it was someone in the same boat.

Thinking of this, a hint of coldness flashed in Jiang Ran's eyes.

"Hey!" Seeing that Jiang Ran didn't respond, Gu Nan waved his hand in front of her.

Jiang Ran snapped out of her daze, looked up at Gu Nan, and said coldly, "Leave the car here, we'll walk to find them."

"What?" Upon hearing this, Gu Nan frowned and replied in an unfriendly tone, "Are you kidding me? We haven't even reached the destination on the map yet, and you're going to abandon the car and walk here?"

"You were just saying that waiting for someone would take too long, but now you can make it in time if you just walk over?"

Jiang Ran frowned slightly, unsure how to explain to him everything she could see.

She pursed her lips and said in a deep voice, "Trust me, I can find them."

"Believe?" Gu Nan scoffed. "I might believe anyone else, but not you!"

"What's the point of you being so hostile towards me right now?" Jiang Ran's face flashed with impatience.

"Am I targeting you for no reason?" Gu Nan sneered coldly. "I told you, they didn't call the police here!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Ran continued, "Someone deliberately changed the location to confuse us."

Hearing Jiang Ran's words, Gu Nan didn't believe it, but a hint of doubt still appeared on her face.

The situation she described is not impossible.

"But why should I believe you? Just because you just pretended to draw a talisman and threw it out, then suddenly said it was here?"

"Do you think you're a Taoist priest, capable of divination and fortune-telling?"

"Are you leaving or not!" Jiang Ran said sharply, unable to hide her anxiety. "If you're not leaving, we'll split up!"

"But you'd better think about who came in this direction first, and who told you that something happened at home."

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan hesitated for a moment, but upon careful consideration, she realized that everything she had said so far was indeed correct.

"Fine, I'll go with you." Gu Nan pursed her lips. "But the people over there will be here soon, so we'll do it on both sides at the same time."

Jiang Ran was too lazy to argue with him about these useless things.

He strode forward: "Keep up!"

After following the trail of smoke for a while, the two looked up and saw that the sky had already darkened.

Jiang Ran frowned and sighed inwardly, "This is not good."

Her pace quickened involuntarily, and she even started jogging. Gu Nan followed beside her, her doubts growing stronger.

Along the way, she encountered some rugged paths, and she followed them as if guided by someone, without any hesitation.

The sky darkened, and a cold, black mist spread through the air. Although Si Zuochen couldn't see what was happening in front of him, he could feel the chill creeping in. Si Zuochen couldn't help but look around, pondering to himself.

If Si Youlin's chill was caused by a fever, then the current coldness is not the kind of temperature one would experience during the hottest days of summer.

This chill hit me head-on; it wasn't just a simple temperature difference, but rather it seeped into my body.

Si Zuochen stretched out his arms and hugged Si Youlin tightly, trying to shield him.
