Chapter 104 The Person Behind the Scenes (16)

The man's cold gaze fell upon her. "I really didn't expect you to think this way. If I had known from the beginning that you thought this way, perhaps I would never have wanted to help you."

You think you did things that hurt others because you had no choice but to do them as I asked, but have you ever thought about what if you weren't this kind of person to begin with?

Even if I force you, you still won't do it because you don't have that kind of nature in you. But if you are this kind of person, you will do it as long as you are given some external stimulation because you are someone who is willing to hurt others for your own benefit.

You could even say you're selfish and only care about your own interests, while others are irrelevant. Your actions cause great harm to others, yet you feel that you're only doing it out of necessity.

They won't feel any guilt at all; instead, they'll stand here and criticize me. Actually, I told you from the beginning that if you didn't want to do it, I could find someone else.

Because there are too many people like you. Human nature is selfish and self-serving; people will do anything to make themselves better. Of course, some people, or most people, still have their own moral bottom line, so they won't go too far.

Even if you do something for yourself, it's still within your own framework. But it's different for someone like you; everything you do goes outside your own framework.

Do you dare say that when you were a con artist, everyone you scammed was a particularly bad person? Didn't you ever scam innocent people? I don't believe it. Besides, you said you only scammed bad people. A person who can become a bad person can't be a fool.

She must be an exceptionally intelligent or capable person, otherwise how could she become a bad person? I've never believed that bad people are always innocent; they just happen to be exceptionally intelligent and capable, or have the ability to be bad people. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to survive for more than a few days.

So how can you prove to me that all those people over there are bad people, and not the innocent people you say they are? Including the girl I'm making now, I've never thought she was innocent either.

Although she didn't actually do anything to me, her parents were a different story. It was her parents who caused me so much pain and made my life so dark. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have become like this. I was originally a very kind person by nature.

I was often praised by others for being a good kid. I even did things like jumping into a river to save people. How could I not be a good person? These are just some of the things I did in the past. There are many more things that I have forgotten.

Do you think someone like me would needlessly hurt an innocent person? Actually, being born into that kind of family was her misfortune.

The woman shook her head again, her gaze resolute. "Actually, you know best just how absurd your words are. You say she's not innocent at all, so what kind of evidence do you think could prove that?"

The people who hurt you before weren't her, but her parents. But now both her parents are gone, and she was born into that kind of environment. Children who grow up in that kind of environment suffer, and she's experienced it all.

But you still want to hurt people like this. Don't you think this is a very immoral act? Of course, I don't know how to criticize you. I'm not you, and I can't understand your actions. I really think that the excuse you're making for your malicious knowledge is ridiculous and laughable.

Do you think all the people I cheated before were necessarily bad people? I really can't guarantee that. How could I possibly screen everyone to see if they were all good or bad?

I definitely can't do that. After all, you can't see into someone's heart. Who can see the darkness or light in someone's heart through their drugs?

This is a superpower that normal people cannot do, not even those with a wealth of experience or extensive life knowledge. Perhaps that's just how life is, but we should always do what we are supposed to do.

We can't change what happened in the past, but we shouldn't do things that we know are inherently unfair. Don't you think this little girl is really innocent?

Just because her parents did some good things for you, you want to take revenge on her. Even though her parents have passed away, you still can't let go of them. You're unwilling to let go of a dead person and even want to pursue her daughter.

Have you ever thought that there was a reason why they did those things to you? It was just an eye for an eye. I know this girl is hard to fool, and my own conscience wouldn't allow it.

So I don't think there's any benefit to doing this. Even though my parents really need your help right now, the more I think about it, the scarier it gets. What if my parents wake up and tell me that they hate people like me because I hurt others?

That's what brought them back to life. How could such upright people like them want a daughter like me? I don't even have the face to see them. So I've decided not to do it anymore. If you can find someone else, then go find someone else.

After all, the price you offered was so high that no normal person would be tempted. And ultimately, it's you who's doing the things that hurt the other party the most, not us insignificant ants.

I simply couldn't live with myself, but that doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. There's always good and bad, success and failure in this world. There are good people and bad people, and we can't always see how good or bad someone truly is.

All I know is that at the most crucial moment, I still want to be a less bad person, even though I've done a lot of bad things in the past. But if I were to do this...

"It could potentially lead to someone's death. If you act like this and actually do something to her, then I'll be your accomplice, and I don't want to take responsibility for that."
