Chapter 335 The Third Day on the Train

Cheng Chao, both amused and exasperated, pulled another piece of paper from his pocket and slapped it aside.

"Look, I knew the time was too tight. Your uncle went to get a new one a long time ago. Don't worry, I'll definitely bring it back for you, otherwise your uncle will chop me up."

I picked it up and glanced at it. This letter of introduction was issued on the day I came down the mountain, and it was valid for one month. Looking at the stamp...

"Isn't this from the village too? Didn't the village chief ask why?"

"With my uncle taking the lead, what else is there to ask? My uncle didn't even say anything, and the village chief guessed it himself. He even asked if something had happened on the mountain again. That's what makes it so satisfying."

He folded the papers and put them away, his simple face beaming with joy.

"So that means, after deducting travel time, we still have half a month of our own time?"

This was truly an unexpected surprise. Even though Cheng Chao had her own tasks to complete during the two weeks she spent there, she still had plenty of free time. This was really good news.

Cheng Chao is one of her own people, and in this era, he should be the closest person to her. Apart from the spatial dimension, she knows him inside and out.

Actually, she didn't deliberately hide anything from Cheng Chao. As for the things in the cellar, if Cheng Chao had investigated, he would have found almost nothing. But so far, he hasn't asked a single question and has been covering for her without leaving a trace.

If we're talking about someone you can trust, Cheng Chao is the first choice.

Cheng Chao could tell from her expression that she was up to no good, and with a headache, he gave her some instructions.

"You don't know anyone there. If you're going out, make sure you take those two kids with you if I'm not around, understand?"

Don't underestimate them just because they're young; they're all shrewder than monkeys. They're local bullies over there. Besides, if you need anything done, they can help you out or run errands, right?

Okay, I'll talk about the second half later. I added it because I was afraid she wouldn't like it. But it's not that she's ungrateful; she's just used to being free and doesn't like being restrained.

"Okay, I know, I won't wander off."

Cheng Chao wouldn't believe her nonsense. He could barely catch her at home, so it would be easier if she went out.

However, despite his worries, he still trusted Jian Dan's skills, after all, she had saved them more than once. It was just that he couldn't help feeling uneasy about his sister.

The past two days have been peaceful, the train is slow, just swaying and rattling. It's not too crowded yet, people sitting are drowsy, and those standing are half asleep. Everyone is just leaning against the window and taking a nap every now and then.

Cheng Chao remained vigilant throughout, protecting his younger sister carefully.

On the third day, Jian Dan couldn't sit still anymore and kept getting up to move around. The two of them were sitting on short seats, and occasionally they would lean against them and lie down for a while, but they were able to bear it.

After the train stopped at noon, it must have been a major station, as many people boarded, making the carriage quite lively. It was no exaggeration to say that it was a chaotic scene of chickens and dogs barking and shouting. In addition, there were old ladies cursing, children crying, and men who seemed to have been drinking and swearing. For a moment, it was more lively than a vegetable market. Jian Dan couldn't sleep at all and just leaned against the carriage to watch the commotion.

The aisle was packed with people, and several of them were eyeing Cheng Chao's seat, their gazes towards Jian Dan filled with resentment.

If there was a real need, Cheng Chao would naturally not ignore it, but looking at their simple-minded eyes, Cheng Chao's face turned as black as ink. Give up your seat?

Are you dreaming?

Simple, and somewhat childish, she grabbed Cheng Chao, preventing him from getting up.

"Look at the way they're looking at me, it's like they want to eat me alive!"

His eyes were fixed on the woman in front of him without any attempt to hide it. Don't think he didn't notice; the woman's gaze towards Cheng Chao was full of ulterior motives.

Tsk!

It's truly incomprehensible that she could so blatantly express her admiration for a complete stranger on the first meeting. I don't know how she can be so blind.

The woman next to her wasn't much better. She kept chattering in her ear, looking at her with disdain. It was easy to guess what they were talking about: that she had kept Cheng Chao from seeing them, and that they might have used some means to seduce Cheng Chao. Child's play, nothing serious.

Cheng Chao was a man, and his thought process was naturally straightforward. When he heard Jian Dan say this, he looked up and met several extremely unfriendly gazes from the other side. They were indeed directed at his sister. What else could he say? He considered himself a good older brother, so he naturally wouldn't be polite at a time like this.

His gaze instantly turned cold, shooting towards the opposite side like icy arrows. Not only were the two women startled and hastily averted their eyes, but everyone around felt a chill run down their spines, involuntarily rubbing their arms.

"Hey, why did it suddenly get cold?"

Is it going to rain?

Someone looked out the window and saw the sun shining brightly.

She simply smiled and secretly took out two persimmons, giving one to Cheng Chao.

Cheng Chao was taken aback, but he didn't think much of it. After all, it was a seasonal item, something that every household in the countryside had in their yard. It wasn't anything special. He just assumed it was something she carried with her. When he saw that she had one, he didn't stand on ceremony and took a bite.

Summer is already hot and humid, and the train carriages are packed with people, with all sorts of smells mixed together, so the pungent smell is indescribable.

A delicate fragrance suddenly wafted to their noses, and people nearby unconsciously sniffed and looked in the direction of the source. When they saw the pink fruit in the large hand, many people reflexively salivated. Wasn't this the persimmon grown in the garden?

This is something that every household has, and it doesn't taste particularly delicious. These adults, especially the men, might not eat one all summer, nor do they crave it. So why does this taste so tempting at this time of year?

However, thinking back to that chilling gaze, I quickly looked away. Forget it, that's a menacing figure, better not look.

Cheng Chao was very happy. She didn't know if it was because her sister gave it to her, but it tasted delicious no matter what she ate. She was a little uncomfortable because of the smell in the carriage earlier, but now she was fine. Her depressed mood had returned, and she was almost bubbling with happiness.

Around noon, I went to the restroom briefly. When I came out to wash my hands, I ran into a woman in her twenties with a man behind her. The three of us didn't say a word or even exchange glances. We simply walked past each other for about ten steps before pausing and slipping into the corner of the first row of seats.

The first row was empty, and a flight attendant was squatting inside, repairing a seat. The first thing I did when I saw her was to tell her she had gone to the wrong seat, but Jian Dan quickly reached out to stop her.

She was facing away from the aisle, with only the flight attendant opposite her. She simply opened her mouth and said something silently. The flight attendant was taken aback, understood what she was saying, and became serious, staring at her. Jian Dan nodded repeatedly.

Seeing that he understood her meaning, she breathed a sigh of relief, then got up as if nothing had happened, casually patting the wrinkles on her body, glancing at the person who had just come out of the toilet.
