The others immediately became alert, and the female educated youth who were not capable of fighting quickly hid behind trees or rocks.
Regardless of whether they dared or not, the male educated youth stood in front of them.
Ling Weidong frowned.
"These wild boars have only been here for a few days, and there are even bigger ones?"
Has a wild boar's den been disturbed on this mountain?
Lin Dongfang frowned and listened carefully again. Although it was still the crunching sound of footsteps on the snow, mixed with the fine crunching of wild grass beneath, compared to the wild boar's previous rampage, these steps were much more steady, slow and deliberate.
The sound was faint, not close at all, and somewhat intermittent. Others might not be able to hear it, but the two of them could hear it clearly if they listened carefully. It was distinctly different from the rustling of the wind.
"Is that... a wild boar?"
He looked at Ling Weidong with some doubt. Of all the people here today, besides Jian Dan, only the two of them could be considered a match for him.
Yuan Ye and Qian Cheng are a buddy, but they are quick-witted and can climb trees and go down rivers. They are capable of protecting themselves in case of an emergency.
As for the others, it's good that they don't cause trouble.
Ling Weidong grabbed the nearest tree, spat into his palm, and scrambled up in a few quick movements. He glanced ahead, then slid back down, his face looking rather pale.
"What's going on? Is it a wild boar, or some other big creature?"
Ling Weidong looked solemn.
"Not an animal, but a human."
Lin Dongfang suddenly straightened up.
"people?"
If someone could elicit such a reaction from Ling Weidong, they certainly weren't someone who entered the mountains normally. He immediately pursed his lips.
"several?"
“I saw five, however,”
Several people immediately turned their gazes towards them, including Jian Dan, who had just returned from the riverbank, and listened quietly.
"The two in front were staggering, and the three behind them had weapons and kept hitting them from behind. Their attitude was extremely bad, more like they were being escorted."
Jian Dan turned around, found a sturdy tree, stepped on it, and quickly scrambled up, disappearing into the dry branches.
In the dead of winter, the leaves were all dry and brittle, and they could clearly see her every move from below. Tan Yajun and the other female educated youths were so nervous that their hearts were in their throats. Afraid of frightening her, they dared not make a sound.
She covered her mouth tightly.
Ling Weidong's heart was pounding, his fists clenched tightly as he stared at the figure above.
In comparison, Lin Dongfang was much calmer; he was completely impressed by the simple skill.
He felt that he had really slipped at that moment, and that Jian Dan might have been able to make Ziran land safely while he was in mid-air.
Sigh, I'm overthinking things; I'm likely to get a beating.
He took a quick and careful look, then reached out to check the wind direction before jumping down with an uncertain expression.
Several people immediately surrounded them.
"How are you? Are you alright?"
Tan Yajun even dragged her around to check her over twice before feeling relieved enough to go back and hide it.
Then it was Lin Dongfang and Ling Weidong's turn.
"How about it?"
A simple nod.
“He was right, there were five people. The two in front are not in good condition. They are already swaying as they walk. I think they won’t last much longer before they faint.”
Ling Weidong admired this.
"You can still tell this from this far away, you're amazing."
Simply shake your head.
"It's not very far, it's just that they're slow, it takes them half a day to move a single step."
The trees on the mountain are lush, and the heavy snow a few days ago was not so heavy on the mountain. In addition, the mountain wind is strong, so some of the snow fell on the branches, some was blown to other places, and only some of it fell to the ground.
So the snow is very thick at the foot of the mountain, but the higher you go, the easier it is to walk.
"But, from which direction did they come?"
It's deep in the mountains; to come out of there, you need more than just some skill.
But on the other side of the deep mountains, right next to the border, could it really have come from that side?
"But with this weather, if they really came from over there, it would take at least ten days to half a month to get here. They couldn't have set off before the snow fell, could they? It's quite remarkable that they could survive in these mountains."
"Heh, yes, it's not easy. Even we, deep in these mountains, wouldn't dare to take such care of things so casually, would we?"
Ling Weidong sneered. He was skilled enough to protect himself against two or three grown men, but he was also afraid of this deep mountain, the territory of wild beasts.
"Look, we all know such a simple truth, so how did they manage to overcome it?"
He simply frowned and pondered.
"The two people in front are wearing only a single layer of clothing, and their clothes are a bit messy, which is normal."
Behind them, the three people behind them—oh, no, the three people behind them were dressed very neatly, not at all like they had been walking in the woods for so long; on the contrary, they looked like they had only been out for two days at most.
The group of people looked at each other in bewilderment.
Logically, they could ignore it, but who knows who they are?
After this analysis, it's actually quite creepy.
How much further?
I listened to it briefly again.
"It's not far; at their speed, it won't take them more than half an hour."
Well, that's really close.
Ling Weidong looked around.
"Then what about us?"
It's not too late to leave, but judging from his simple attitude, he seems quite concerned.
“They are carrying weapons, but we can’t tell if they are guns or something else. We can’t risk them.”
She glanced back at their hiding place, quite decisively.
