Chapter 605 Frustration

To say I'm not afraid would be a lie.

Jian Dan knew perfectly well that no matter how powerful she was, she was still just a mortal. These wolves were different from others; they were social animals, and you could see they were all huddled together. This was much more difficult to deal with than the bear from before.

She couldn't help but wonder if Lin Zhengde was a jinx. She had only encountered wolves a handful of times in all the times she had gone up the mountain, but for them, it seemed like they encountered them every time, as if it had become a standard occurrence.

To be honest, Lin Zhengde was also nervous at this moment. They had been in a standoff for a long time and were in a relatively balanced state. But now that someone else had suddenly appeared, he was afraid that the wolf on the other side might react in any way.

However, his worries were obviously unnecessary. Jian Dan had already walked behind them, and the alpha wolf on the other side just raised its eyelids and glanced at them casually before slowly standing up.

Lin Zhengde felt a shiver run down his spine.

She simply walked up behind them and stood still, barely daring to make a sound, and asked softly.

"What's going on?"

"No, I don't know. Why did you come here? Didn't I tell you not to come?"

Lin Zhengde tilted his head and confirmed with Jian Dan.

"Do you think this isn't the one we saw that day?"

"I......"

"Awoo!"

Everyone immediately stiffened.

"alert!"

"What's going on?"

"Huh? Is this... they're leaving?"

"real?"

When they looked up briefly, they saw several wolves slowly getting up. The pressure of their height and the aura of the kings of beasts immediately overwhelmed them, causing them to involuntarily take two steps back.

Everyone gripped their weapons tightly, ready to retaliate at any moment.

Just by looking at them, you can tell that they are in a very relaxed state, especially the alpha wolf, whose tail is leisurely slapping the ground and occasionally tilting its head to touch the cubs next to it. There is no sign of them going to fight.

this?

Are they here to demonstrate?

Before she could figure it out, the young soldier on the other side exclaimed in surprise.

"Commander, they've...they've left?"

Lin Zhengde looked up sharply and saw the wolves opposite him getting up one after another. The alpha wolf cast a few incomprehensible glances in their direction, then turned away slowly with its cubs. The other wolves followed closely behind, seemingly unconcerned that the weapons in the humans' hands would be used against them.

The group left behind stood dumbfounded in the cold wind, not daring to utter a sound.

After a long while, a young soldier sneezed, which finally woke up the group.

They looked at each other, both somewhat incredulous.

"Really gone?"

"Okay, it seems so? Achoo! My back is covered in cold sweat, how about you guys?"

Once they were sure the wolf was really gone, they finally dared to speak loudly.

"Oh my god, that scared me to death, Commander! I was just wondering if I was about to bravely fight alongside the brothers?"

"Nonsense!"

Lin Zhengde couldn't bring himself to be harsh and gently scolded him.

Everyone was so tense just now that, except for Jian Dan, almost everyone's back was soaked with sweat, including Lin Zhengde.

High skill breeds boldness.

However, the team consisted entirely of novices, with no truly skilled members. Lin Zhengde himself was considered a veteran, but the conditions in the deep mountains and forests were different from those against enemies, and he lacked confidence in leading these children to safety.

Now that the crisis was over, everyone's spirits were lifted. Some leaned against the trees, while others sat down on the ground. The sound of "Achoo!" could be heard all over the place.

Take a quick look at this and that.

"You guys don't all have colds, do you?"

Lin Zhengde's legs were also a little weak, but compared to the others, he was still doing relatively well. Looking around at the people who were all sprawled out, he felt a little embarrassed.

"Alright, alright, look at the state you're in, aren't you ashamed?"

Get up quickly.

The rest of the journey went much more smoothly. We didn't encounter any wild animals, but we did hear several wolf howls. At first, we were trembling with fear and paranoia, but later we hardly reacted at all.

They figured it out; the wolf didn't seem to be looking for trouble or revenge. Its occasional howls seemed to be protecting them. It cleared the way for them quite effectively; until they reached their destination, the road was so quiet that they didn't even see a pheasant or a rabbit.

Regardless of what they were thinking, they didn't get a single chance to make a move along the way.

The first half of the route was one that Lin Zhengde and his group had covered a couple of days prior, so their speed was naturally faster.

The second half of the journey involved walking, observing, and calculating, along with occasional trial and error. It wasn't until the morning of the third day that we finally found a place that resembled our destination. From the outside, it looked no different from an ordinary mountain.

But once you climb up the ravine in front, the view below will leave you speechless.

"Holy crap! Commander, is this...is this someone living here?"

"Am I dreaming? Are there really people living in this deep mountain forest? This place is so big, could it be a village?"

The young soldier who had just enlisted hadn't yet experienced any challenging missions, and his impression of society was still very positive. So even if he imagined it, he wouldn't think the worst of people.

Lin Zhengde, standing to the side, had a dark expression. They might not know, but how could he not know?

After considering the statements made by those individuals, what else is unclear?

As he called for everyone to come down, Lin Zhengde remained in low spirits, radiating an aura that kept strangers at bay. The others stood obediently, not daring to utter a sound, waiting for orders.

Simple didn't want to get involved, so she quietly walked away.
