Chapter 689 Don't Force Yourself

The old man had heard about the background check he had undergone, but he didn't ask about it in detail to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

"Oh yes, daughter-in-law, we don't know the details either. Can you tell us? I had some acquaintance with Lao Cheng in the first half of my life, but I've never heard that he has any other children?"

"Have you heard him mention having any other brothers?"

The old man was taken aback.

"You mean, Old Cheng's long-lost younger brother?"

A simple nod.

"You knew about this too?"

"Hey, how could I not know? Years ago, he nagged this younger brother a lot."

I visited him a few times during his final days. He was good in every other way in his life, but his younger brother was a regret he could never make up for until his death.

However, finding you and being able to recognize you, Old Cheng can rest in peace if he knows this in the afterlife.

After thinking for a moment, he burst into laughter again.

"Is this considered a family tradition? The Cheng family kids are all quite skilled at wielding swords and spears. What do you call that, anyway?"

"The student surpasses the teacher."

"Yes, yes, that's the line."

"Daughter-in-law, if Lao Cheng saw you, he'd be overjoyed!"

The old lady chimed in as well.

"That's true. Old Cheng, you could call him your great-grandfather. He and this old man in our family had three sons. It was so annoying. They were so envious of other people's daughters. They had no hope of having a daughter, so they were hoping for a granddaughter."

In the end, well, nobody got what they wanted.

The group was chatting animatedly when Aunt Xu came out to say it was time to eat, just as the guard at the door came in to report.

"Commander, Section Chief Qin and Deputy Factory Director Qin's families have arrived."

The atmosphere in the living room immediately froze, and the old man and woman's faces darkened.

After a moment of silence, the old lady sighed.

"Let them in."

Seeing that the atmosphere was not good, and that they did not seem to be getting up to eat, Aunt Xu immediately turned around and covered the food, then hid in the kitchen herself.

She glanced briefly at the man sitting beside her, quietly playing with her fingers, but didn't move.

"Mistress, go and take the things into the kitchen."

Qin Qinghuai paused for a moment, then stood up as if nothing had happened.

"good."

With just a blink, it's clear this old lady is angry with her son too?

Soon, several children came running in, making a ruckus.

"Grandpa, Grandma, we're here."

The old lady's expression softened a bit.

"Come quickly and let Grandma see, have you eaten?"

Four people followed in, glanced up briefly, and then looked away.

"Dad, Mom,"

"Dad, Mom,"

"Um,"

She immediately felt many eyes on her, and naturally raised her head, nodding to those who met her gaze.

"The third brother is back?"

The old lady's expression softened a bit at this topic.

"It's simple for your younger brother and sister-in-law. You didn't attend their wedding, so you all got to know each other. You're both older brothers and sisters-in-law, so I don't expect you to contribute much. But after all, we all came from the same parents. Just don't let some trivial matters turn you into enemies."

Qin Qingjiang and Qin Qingze looked a little stiff. Their mother's words were quite blunt, completely exposing their embarrassment.

Qin Qingze glanced at his wife out of the corner of his eye, his annoyance almost overflowing.

The atmosphere was somewhat somber. Qin Qinghuai and Jian Dan stood up and greeted them. Several boys also politely stood up from beside the old lady to greet her. Although they were still sweating, they were neat and tidy, with short haircuts and their clothes, though not new, were quite proper.

While I wouldn't say I liked it at first sight, the first impression was still pretty good.

"Hello, your third aunt brought you some gifts. Do you like them?"

The youngest, Qin Heng, was only five or six years old, and his eyes immediately lit up.

"Is there a gift?"

"Yes, everyone received a gift,"

Jian Dan took out a bundle from behind her back, and pulled out several square boxes, all identical.

One for each of you, see if you like it or not.

The five children swarmed around them.

"Third Aunt, is it really for us?"

“These are from your third aunt. Take them. You can play together, but no fighting is allowed.”

Qin Jing, keep a close eye on your younger brothers.

Qin Jing immediately puffed out his chest.

"I understand, Third Uncle."

There are three Qin brothers.

The eldest son, Qin Qingjiang, works in a government department and is currently a deputy director. He has a wife, Fang He, and three children: Qin Jing, Qin Ming, and Qin Shao.

The second son, Qin Qingze, is the deputy director of a food factory. His wife is Sun Jianhong, and they have two children, Qin Guan and Qin Heng.

The third one is Qin Qinghuai.

However, perhaps due to the Qin family genes, they are all boys. The eldest, Qin Jing, is already a middle school student, not much younger than Jian Dan. He seemed a little embarrassed to receive the gift.

"Third Uncle and Third Aunt, I'm all grown up now, do I still need a gift?"

He smiled simply.

“You call me Third Aunt, so you’re still a child. Of course you’ll get a gift. Everyone gets the same one.”

"Thank you, Third Aunt!"

The younger children also chattered and thanked them, then took the boxes to the side to open them.

After presenting their simple gifts, Qin Qingjiang and Qin Qingze looked a little embarrassed. Their new sister-in-law had all prepared gifts, while they had come empty-handed.

"Well, sister-in-law, we didn't know you were coming back today, so we didn't bring the gifts we prepared for you. We'll bring them to you tomorrow."
