Chapter 689 Don't Force Yourself

No sooner had the words been spoken than a voice came from the doorway.

I had no idea you thought that way about me.

The old lady suddenly looked towards the door, where a familiar, tall figure was slowly walking in.

Mrs. Xu was the first to react, and exclaimed in surprise,

"Grandma, Qinghuai is back!"

The little old lady was a step behind in getting up to greet them, her face also beaming with smiles.

"Hey, Xiao San, what brings you back? Why didn't you say anything?"

As he spoke, he leaned back to look.

"Are you alone? Is your daughter-in-law back too? She's asking you a question, answer her!"

"Huh?"

Qin Qinghuai smiled helplessly.

"I got slapped without saying a word. Did you even give me a chance to speak? Can't you be reasonable?"

"Go! Go! Go!"

The old lady had lost her patience and reached out to shove him aside, revealing the truth behind it.

The old lady paused for a moment, then burst into a big laugh.

"Daughter-in-law?"

Oh, my daughter-in-law is here! Come in, come in!

Aunt Xu, hurry up and cook a few more dishes, my daughter-in-law is back.

Go call the old man and tell him to come back right away.

Aunt Xu was so happy she couldn't stop smiling.

"Oh, Grandma, I'll go right away."

Simple was led into the living room by the old lady's hand. To be honest, she felt a little awkward being so close to her.

Fortunately, Qin Qinghuai followed closely behind, so she wasn't too nervous.

After sitting down on the sofa, Qin Qinghuai formally introduced the two parties. The old lady held Jian Dan's hand tightly, and the smile on her face never faded.

“Oh my, your daughter-in-law is much prettier than in the photos. She has such clear and honest eyes. Good boy, good boy, you’ve been wronged to marry him.”

With a simple smile, Qin Qinghuai almost spat out his water.

"No, now that you have a daughter-in-law, you don't have to belittle your son like that."

Besides, my wife is attracted to my face.

"You're quite proud of yourself, aren't you?"

The old lady was very disgusted.

"I see you don't have anything else to offer, except for this face, which is passable."

It's simple to take pictures when you turn around.

“Daughter-in-law, he’s a bit stubborn, so just put up with him. Use him when you need to. He’s a big guy, but he’s clumsy and can only do some manual labor.”

A simple twitch at the corner of her mouth—is this really her mother?

However, it must be said that the old lady's casual and natural manner of speaking made Jian Dan unconsciously relax.

"...Mom, I didn't know what you liked, but I know we have everything we need, so I brought you and Dad some practical things."

The old lady was even happier.

"Oh, daughter-in-law, you're being too polite. This is our own home, no need to be so formal."

She didn't even look at the things. No matter what they were, even a piece of firewood was a token of her affection. What daughter-in-law wouldn't like someone who is so considerate?

As they were talking, they heard the sound of two people walking quickly outside.

"Old woman, is that our daughter-in-law back? Is it her? Is it her?"

Qin Qinghuai stood up first to greet him.

"dad,"

They really are a perfect couple. She glanced at him, gave a perfunctory nod, and without even stopping, walked straight past him to the sofa.

"Where is my daughter-in-law? Where is my daughter-in-law?"

Jian Dan was a little puzzled. Why did this couple act like they were afraid their daughter-in-law would run away?

However, they were very polite on the surface.

"Dad, hello, I'm Jian Dan."

The old man laughed heartily.

"Alright, alright, please sit down, alright. Old woman, have you asked for more food?"

"Yes, yes, Aunt Xu is making it."

Qin Qinghuai was ignored twice upon entering the room. He sighed helplessly, resigned to being a mere tool, and knelt down to untie the bags they had brought in.

“These are things my wife specially picked out for you, take a look.”

Jian Dan didn't look for anything expensive. He picked out two sets of thermal underwear and one outer garment for each person in the space, packed some prawns, and then the rest was meat: pheasant, venison, wild boar, and mutton, all of which Qin Qinghuai picked out himself.

It's not very warm this time of year, and since they were only taken out of the car, they were still rock hard, in large chunks, quite conspicuous. Even the elderly couple were startled.

"Why did you bring all the meat back? This is your own home, this is not right."

The old lady didn't say anything. She was thinking about what her son had said on the phone earlier: his daughter-in-law was very capable and had sent back a lot of things. However, hearing about it and seeing it for yourself are not the same thing.

Resources are scarce across the country. Even for someone in their position, the monthly ration is only two pounds of meat. It's unlikely they can eat as much as they want, let alone ordinary people.

This is what Qin Qinghuai is proud of.

"Mom and Dad, don't worry. We're all doing this because of my wife. She's the one who wanted to give you all this. She made it all herself."

A moment of embarrassment washed over him, and his face flushed red. What was so glorious about this?

"Hahaha!"

The old man burst into a hearty laugh.

"Good, good, good, daughter-in-law, you're doing a great job."

"I have three sons, and this is the only one who joined the army. He's also a sickly fellow. My biggest regret is that none of my three sons are good fighters. Hahaha, so that's what was coming all along."

I glanced at Qin Qinghuai briefly; this old man's thought process seemed a bit unconventional.

Qin Qinghuai was already used to it and wasn't surprised at all.

"Hmph, my wife is amazing. She's from the Cheng family, but her skills are better than anyone else in the Cheng family."
