Jian Dan didn't go out with them anymore. When she had nothing to do, she would tend to the garden, go up the mountain, and gossip with Sister Wang over the wall.
Every now and then, I would follow the old man and woman around for a stroll, to inspect the school that was enclosed and taking shape day by day. Although I wasn't personally involved, it was still somewhat related to me. I can't describe the feeling in my heart—both satisfied and amazed.
The old man and woman had also changed their listless mood since leaving Beijing. They spent their days looking around, discussing seedlings with Professor Wei and Professor Yu, dealing with pests, weeding, and fertilizing. They also listened to Professor Zhu talk about piglets. Their days were very fulfilling. Jian Dan and Qin Qinghuai discussed these topics more than once. The two of them seemed to have found a second spring, and they were full of energy.

Qin Jing yielded to his younger brother. Although Qin Ming, Qin Guan, and Qin Shao didn't understand much, they also knew to yield to their younger brothers. Qin Heng and Xiao An hit it off immediately and were inseparable.
Qin Jing and the others were very tolerant of this younger brother.
So within a few days, the children's group in this residential compound became a group where, although Qin Jing was the leader, the two little kids, Qin Heng and Xiao An, became the darlings of the group.
When he told Qin Qinghuai about it, Commander Lin felt a surge of excitement, yet still seemed somewhat incredulous.
"Tell me, how do they all get along? There's such a big group of kids. Let's not even talk about your eldest son. He's definitely a big kid, and he's got a big attitude."
"That little An, the one who never talks, how come I never noticed him before? How come he can hang out with those other kids? Before, none of them wanted to play with him!"
