Commander Lin sniffed, blinked sharply to wipe the moisture from his eyes, and spoke in an impatient tone.
"Okay, okay, I won't stand on ceremony with you guys, you big men are so fussy."
The old lady finally had a moment of peace today, and she was delighted to see the lush green garden. She wanted to cook something for the children. When the old lady pushed open the door, she was sharpening her knife, preparing to chop chives. Seeing her enter, she didn't get up.
"Daughter-in-law, these chives you have are really good."
These are chive roots I dug up from Jian Dan's place. The old lady seems quite proud of how well she's grown them.
"Come in quickly, Mom will make you some chive pancakes,"
"Oh, I'm in luck! I'll be lazy and not cook lunch."
Without any hesitation, Jian Dan rolled up his sleeves and came over to help.
"Do you want chives and eggs? Do you have any eggs at home? If you need more, come to my place and get some."
"Yes, we still have the eggs you brought over a few days ago. That's enough."
"Okay, I'll wash the chives, and I'll make the filling in a bit. You go and knead the dough."
The old lady got up and went back into the house.
"Okay, okay, the filling you made is delicious. I'll go fry the eggs and let them cool, and then I'll mix the dough. They'll come back soon and we'll start making the pancakes."
The chives were at their tenderest right now, and with the eggs and just a few simple seasonings, they were incredibly delicious. Qin Jing and his younger brothers were immediately drawn in by the aroma as soon as they entered the courtyard, and they rushed straight to the kitchen.
"Delicious! It smells so good!"
"fragrant!"
"Grandma, what did you make? It smells so good!"
"Grandma, I'm hungry, can I eat now?"
Qin Jing shouted from behind.
"Come wash your hands first, then you can get your food."
The sudden chatter filled the entire yard with joy.
Simply holding the dough in one hand and filling it with the other, the sound alone is enough to make you laugh.
"Mom, isn't this going to be interesting?"
The old lady's eyes were full of love; naturally, she thought her grandson was perfect in every way. While she might have outwardly expressed her dislike, her inner pride was undeniable.
"It's lively enough, but if these kids start causing trouble, they could blow the roof off. They're going to drive me crazy."
He simply rolled out the dough he had wrapped into a flatbread and placed it in the empty space in the pan, while casually teasingly remarking,
"Mom, the smugness in your eyes is way too obvious!"
"Ha ha!"
The old lady made him laugh heartily.
"Oh dear, you noticed that!"
A group of children rushed in, and they stopped talking and quickened their pace.
A little while later, the old man strolled back.
A little while later, Qin Qinghuai also got off work. Finding no one home, he turned around and came here.
"Why did you decide to come over for a meal?"
Simply look up and smile.
"I was lucky enough to get such good food. My mom was planning to treat them to something nice when I arrived, so I definitely couldn't leave."
His gluttonous little face immediately made Qin Qinghuai and the old man and woman laugh, and Qin Qinghuai even played along.
"That's right, it's not easy to have a proper meal like this. It's a good thing you came, otherwise neither of us would have gotten any."
"Go! Go! Go!"
A grown man was acting silly here, and the old lady nudged him aside with an elbow.
"Hurry up and put the dishes on the table and get some bowls. Stop making a mess here."
"Okay, all done!"
There were already two elderly people, two guards, and five children at the table, which was already a small group. Now, with the addition of Jian Dan and his wife, and Xiao An, who came with Qin Jing and the others, the table was packed full.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill and sent the children out, Qin Qinghuai dropped another bombshell.
“My older brother has already applied for a transfer to the county seat to be the secretary to the county party secretary.”
The old lady paused for a moment.
"So, they're divorced?"
Qin Qinghuai shook his head.
"No, Fang He won't agree. She wants custody of the children. My brother's idea is that if she doesn't want a divorce, then she doesn't want one. He has no intention of finding someone else anyway. If she really won't budge, he'll publish an announcement in the newspaper to dissolve the marriage and, at the same time, sever ties with her on behalf of the children."
The two elderly people's hearts sank immediately. That was their eldest son, who had been dragged down by such a person. The old woman asked one last question with difficulty.
"So, Fang He, how did you handle it?"
Qin Qinghuai paused for a moment, pursed his lips, and said nothing.
Seeing his hesitation and inner turmoil, Jian Dan slowly widened her eyes.
"Could it be that it wasn't dealt with?"
Qin Qinghuai glanced at the old man and woman, and slowly nodded.
"She got involved with those people, and that was the end of it."
"So, brother, you've lost all hope?"
"I guess so. We only talked for a few words on the phone, and he sounded listless."
Jian glanced at Qin Qinghuai. Was it because they were afraid that if they talked about it first, they wouldn't be able to eat? That's why they put it off until after the meal.
"By the way, what did you say my older brother was transferred here for?"
Qin Qinghuai nodded to her.
"You heard me right, the secretary of the county party secretary,"
"Is it the county party secretary I know?"
"Most likely,"
"ha!"
I'm speechless.

This incident was quite a blow to the two elderly people. They remained silent and somber, occasionally opening their mouths but not knowing how to offer any comfort, and finally simply gave up.
Qin Qinghuai didn't say anything; the outcome was already decided, and there was no point in trying to persuade him.
