Since the trip was meant to be relaxing and fun, the food couldn't be skimped on. Aside from the simple ingredients, the secret-recipe seasoning was famously good. Given that the family of three didn't often have the opportunity to travel together, she naturally wouldn't be stingy.
Although it was roasted raw, the oil sizzled as it dripped onto the fire, and then seasonings were sprinkled on it when it was half-cooked. The sudden aroma captivated the little one, who squatted obediently beside the fire, his little mouth pursed, staring intently.
Her little nose kept twitching as the increasingly rich aroma made her drool; she finally couldn't resist.
"Slurp! Mom! Ah, slurp! Mom, is it ready? Can we eat now?"
Qin Qinghuai had only eaten this twice before, and the aroma was so enticing that he couldn't sit still any longer. He wasn't dressed up, and there were no outsiders around, so he didn't care about his image.
"Honey, this smells amazing!"
The little one was also extremely anxious.
"Mommy, Mommy, slurp, is it ready? Is it ready? Can we eat now?"
"You guys are way too hasty in your words,"
Simple and funny.
"We're not short of meat at home!"
Qin Qinghuai took a deep breath.
"No, no, no, it's not about the meat. With your skills, even grilled vegetables would smell amazing."
Simple didn't refute it. It's like spicy strips in later generations. Everyone says they're junk food and unhealthy, but no one can deny that they're really delicious!
"Haha, I'll take that as a compliment."
The pheasants weren't big, there were three of them. One was roasted chicken, and the other two were beggar's chickens. The three of us finished everything. Even the simple side dishes like mushrooms, scallions, and greens that we had secretly stuffed into the beggar's chickens were all picked clean by the little one who doesn't like greens.
"Hiccup! Mom, hiccup!"
"Mommy, where's Bunny?"
Jian Dan had originally planned to just pull out two rabbits from her spatial storage to make do, but upon seeing this, she immediately rejected the idea.
"Come, come, Mom will take you to find the rabbit hole."
Qin Qinghuai watched until the last spark died out before following after them.
"Are you really going to let her catch it herself?"
"Look at her belly, if it doesn't start moving, we'll have to carry her down the mountain, believe it or not."
Looking at the girl wobbling like a penguin in front of him, Qin Qinghuai decisively withdrew his doubts.
"Is there anything else you need? Is this one basket enough?"
The mountain environment was simple, and the little one adapted very well. Soon, a rabbit burrow was spotted nearby, and the little one's spirits were immediately lifted.
"Mommy, Mommy, do you have any bunnies?"
Jian Dan didn't intend to give her a perfunctory answer.
"There should be rabbits in the hole below, but there are several entrances to the rabbit hole. We need to block all the entrances, otherwise they will escape through the other entrances!"
The little guy immediately raised his hand.
"I want to go, I want to go, I can't let the bunny escape!"
The surrounding area was flat, so after a quick walk around, I felt comfortable letting her run around freely.
We explained the features of the cave entrance to her, and seeing her head held high and looking like she was about to do something big, we simply and decisively let go of her and followed behind. We watched her run around and dig around, and sure enough, we actually found two cave entrances.
The little guy, feeling a great sense of accomplishment, became even more proud, putting his little hands behind his back like a little landlord inspecting his territory.
However, perhaps the remaining entrances were well hidden, and the little one wandered around several times without finding them. Its patience was wearing thin, and its little face puffed up.
The two big tails behind her kept chuckling, and when they saw she was about to burst into tears of anger, Jian Dan felt embarrassed, suppressed her laughter, and threw a few pebbles in that direction.
"Girl, listen, what's that sound? Is a rabbit running out?"
Kids are easily captivated by new topics, instantly forgetting their earlier unhappiness and running off happily.
"Where is it? Let me see, let me see!"
The little girl had no idea what she looked like now. After climbing the mountain, no matter how energetic she was, she was still a child, and a chubby one at that. She was constantly sweating, and her hair was plastered to her forehead.
After all that time—playing PUBG, pulling her hair, falling down, and crawling through bushes and branches—she was actually quite disheveled. Her little bun was askew, her bangs and stray hairs were down, and the leaves, grass, green sap from some unknown grass, and oily fingerprints on her clothes were particularly noticeable on her light-colored shirt.
There were streaks of sweat on her little face.
Actually, the image was somewhat funny, but seeing her pouting little face and earnestly sticking her bottom out in the grass looking for a rabbit hole, I couldn't quite describe the feeling in my heart. I felt a little sad and a little swollen.
She couldn't help but whisper to the man,
"You know, I suddenly feel like the child is different,"
"Knowing how to do something seriously, you don't look like a child anymore, do you?"
"Yes, she's only three years old at most. Thinking about how she used to cause trouble, and how serious she is now, they don't seem like the same child at all, do they?"
"Hehe, wife, you're overthinking it. Our child will never be the kind of person who causes us worry."
She's too young now. Even if a three-year-old is very sensible, her understanding of the world is limited. The things she can do and think about in a day are just eating, playing, and being mischievous—that's all instinct.
Just as I was about to say something, I heard the little one cheer.
"Mommy, Mommy, there's a hole! There's a hole over here! Come quick, is this the bunny's hole? Block it, block it quickly, the bunny is going to run away!"
