"Hey!"
Kicked out of the house by his own parents, Political Commissar Qin was utterly speechless. Looking at the door that had been slammed shut, he turned away, feeling wronged.
"No, is this all the status I have now? I can't even part ways amicably, and all I deserve is to be kicked out?"
Simple and speechless.
"The trouble your daughter caused is probably causing outrage and resentment throughout the residential compound right now, and nobody dares to say anything. If you don't take care of it, who will?"
"Why!"
Pulled back to reality, Qin Qinghuai picked up his daughter, held her in his arms, and muttered to himself.
"Girl, tell me, what have you been doing?"
The little one patted the chubby rabbit in his arms.
"Show them the bunny and Little Grey, but they don't have any, hehe!"
They all touched it, they all wanted to take it away. "Daddy, the bunny pooped, so it gets to eat meat."
This didn't sound like a question or a discussion; it sounded more like a notification. Qin Qinghuai didn't seem to care.
"They all like rabbits?"
"Hey, feel it, it's all fluffy and warm."
"You like rabbits so much? Aren't you worried about the cost of eating them?"
The little one couldn't understand what it meant to feel sorry for the little thing; perhaps it was just something new and exciting, and he didn't yet have that deep an emotional connection. However, he was quite clear-headed.
"So, the rabbit pooped, so we can't play with it anymore, and we can't eat meat?"
"...Yes, you can eat them. But what if they all die? Do you just eat meat? Then you won't have anything to play with?"
As soon as I closed the gate, the little one ran off to see the newly made rabbit cage. Of all the rabbits I brought back today, all but the one I was holding were in the cage.
Rabbits are naturally timid, and in this new environment, they're huddled in a corner, trembling. However, they've already eaten all the vegetable leaves that the children threw in before the meal.
The little one was reluctant to part with it, but having already asked Jian Dan, it was fine to play during the day, but cuddling it to sleep was out of the question. Although reluctant, it didn't dare to resist, so it obediently put the rabbit back in its cage.
"Daddy, without Ye Ye, the bunny ate it all. Are you hungry? Do you want to eat?"
Qin Qinghuai gave a simple explanation, then led his daughter to pick some midnight snacks for the rabbit. After squatting for a while, they finally saw the rabbit come over to eat. The little one excitedly pointed and counted the food.
"This is Bunny's dad,"
"This is Rabbit's mother,"
"This is Brother Bunny and Sister Bunny,"
"Oh dear, eat up, eat until you're full, then you can poop again tomorrow. I'm not eating rabbit today."
Qin Qinghuai, “…”
This threat is perfectly legitimate.
Why do rabbits have to be dead to be eaten?
The little one stared intently as the rabbit slowly ate its leaves, then suddenly let out a "whoosh," rushed to the rabbit cage, and reached out to lift the cage door.
"Daddy, Daddy, bunnies, bunnies, little bunnies, so many, so many! Come quick, come quick!"
Even when we saw the rabbit hole on the mountain, the little guy wasn't this excited. His whole little body was trembling, and his face was flushed. Seeing that he wasn't moving, I simply ran back and pulled him hard.
"Dad, come quick! There are so many! Who caught them? Where did they come from?"
Qin Qinghuai didn't quite grasp what was making the child so excited, but he managed to understand the gist of the child's incoherent ramblings. Following the little one's lead, he stood up and walked over to the rabbit cage.
The little boy was peeking through the door and crack of the rabbit cage, but Qin Qinghuai, being tall enough, could see everything clearly from above. Following the little boy's gaze to the corner, he saw him and was also taken aback.
That pinkish-red, wriggling mass—is it giving birth?
"Daddy, look! So many bunnies!"
The little one was jumping up and down in a hurry, clearly wanting to crawl inside and get a closer look. She changed positions, finding one closer to the mother rabbit, and lay her whole body on the cage, her little face pressed against it, constantly reporting what she was seeing.
"Daddy, are they little bunnies? Are they? Why are there so many?"
Qin Qinghuai quickly came to his senses. He guessed that the mother rabbit was already pregnant at the time of the capture. They hadn't noticed when they caught her, and after making a cage, they put her in the rabbit. After that, the adults didn't pay attention to her anymore, but the little ones and a few children were interested and stayed there to watch. Who knew that, by such a coincidence, the mother rabbit would give birth today, just after they caught her.
He carefully chose his words to explain to his daughter.
"This big rabbit is a mother rabbit. She has baby rabbits in her belly. These baby rabbits are all born from her."
The little one definitely wouldn't understand, not even half of it. He only understood one sentence.
"Mommy Rabbit, Baby Rabbit?"
"Dad, are these bunnies mine too? What if someone comes and takes them away?"
"You're quite greedy. What do you need so many rabbits for? You can't eat rabbits, can you?"
Something reminded her, and she got up and trotted into the vegetable garden. Qin Qinghuai stood outside watching. A little while later, she came out with two more cabbages in a pitiful state. They were two cabbages, with their roots and leaves still attached. Judging from the way she held them, she probably didn't know how to break off the leaves properly, so she used too much force and pulled them off by the roots as well.
"Daddy, feed it quickly, let the bunny eat lots and lots of baby bunnies!"
With a forced smile, Qin Qinghuai realized he really couldn't explain the concept of reproduction, so he simply shrugged.
"If you feed him any more, he'll die from overeating."
The little one paused, its hand already reaching in with the lettuce leaf, looking somewhat regretful. But it quickly threw it in, hitting the mother rabbit who had just given birth. She seemed rather disappointed.
