Jian Dan stared quietly at her watch, watching the red dot slowly approach. She couldn't help but feel nervous, her fingers curling up. No matter how much she trusted her child, she would always be on edge until she saw her child back in her arms.
As darkness fell, the dense trees on the mountain further limited visibility. The patrol team proceeded cautiously, not daring to make any sudden movements. Already feeling uncertain, they were even more afraid of disturbing any creature on the mountain.
The family compound at the foot of the mountain was ravaged for most of the day. Although the curfew has now been lifted and they were told it was a false alarm, the fact remains that their child is missing. Every family has children, and while having more children might make them less precious, no parent could accept something like this.
Everyone understood the Qin family's feelings, and no one deliberately tried to stab them in the heart with their joyful atmosphere. So, the family compound was much quieter than usual that night, with almost no liveliness. The children in each household were kept at home quietly, without even a sound of crying.
The old man and Commander Lin waited at the foot of the mountain for half the afternoon. At first, they were relatively calm and talked to each other, but as the time went by, even though they knew it would take time to get out of the mountains, they became more and more anxious.
"Old Chief, why don't you go back first? There are people guarding this place. If any news comes down, I'll have someone report to you immediately?"
The old man waved his hand.
"You go ahead and get busy, I'll wait here."
The third son wasn't home; only his wife and children were. This happened, and they couldn't offer any help. How could he possibly stay home and wait patiently? It would be strange if he could just sit there.
Not to mention him, the children in the family couldn't sit still either. They had been clamoring to come over for a while. If it weren't for the old lady being able to keep them in check, they would probably all be here by now.
However, when Commander Lin heard the sound and turned around, he saw a series of large and small dark figures approaching from the family compound. Su Ri'an was certain there were children among them, but they were unusually quiet, lacking their usual cheerfulness. It wasn't until they got closer that their voices could be heard.
"Grandma, why isn't my little sister back yet? It's so dark, isn't she scared?"
Qin Heng also counted on his fingers.
"The rabbits are all full, and the puppies are full too. I wonder if the little sister fed Little Whitey?"
The old lady gave a perfunctory reply.
"Yes, yes, I definitely fed them."

The troops searching the mountain never stopped, and the lights and figures from the family compound to the foot of the mountain never stopped. From dusk till midnight, and then into the early hours of the morning, Jian Dan finally emerged from the deep mountains, followed by two enormous figures. Not far from there, he encountered the patrol team that had been working day and night.
"Halt! Who goes there?"
"Sister-in-law? Sister-in-law! It really is you! You've finally come out! What's going on?"
Jian Dan's complexion wasn't good either. When they met, she could hardly recognize her daughter, whom she had just parted ways with that morning.
Little Chiu Chiu's hair had long since fallen out, and it looked like a bird's nest.
I don't know what I ate, but my face is all colorful.
Oh, and there are two obvious tear tracks, and her eyes are still wet, so she must have just finished crying not long ago.
The clothes were clean, but the original color was completely lost. The large pockets on the overalls were bulging with something stuffed inside, with half of the stuff sticking out, but it was too dark to see clearly.
The hem of my pants is torn; I don't know where it was scraped or if one of these things bit it open.
There was a vine of something hanging from the strap.
The shoes were also lost. There were some fallen leaves on the white socks, but the color was still relatively clean, so it seemed that the socks hadn't been on the ground much.
To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that it's my own child, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to hold him; I really wouldn't want to.
It's too dirty.
After all, being bounced back and forth on the back of a wolf is no small feat, and even without walking, it was quite tiring.
It was getting late, and children are naturally afraid of the dark. Besides, even the most playful child knows that it gets dark and they need to go home and look for their mother. Sure enough, as soon as they saw their mother, they fell asleep in less than two minutes.
Thanks to the cub, she was able to ride on the wolf's back while holding the child when she came out earlier. She only got off when she saw that she was afraid of scaring people when they reached the outer perimeter.
"Sister-in-law, are you alright? The old commander and the others are waiting down the mountain. And the child, how is he?"
"Yes, sister-in-law, is the child alright?"
Holding the little one in one's arms, it's no wonder people feel uneasy at first glance.
Seeing so many concerned looks, Jian Dan's eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She looked down at her sleeping baby, her voice tinged with a mix of helplessness and complete relief.
"It's okay, it's really okay, she's asleep."
"That's great, that's great, sister-in-law, give me the child, you can rest."
Then someone took the child from her arms. After being tense for a long time, her hands loosened and her shoulders suddenly slumped. At that moment, all the strength in her body seemed to have been released.
Holding the child, she took a few steps back, and everyone's eyes fell on the two big guys behind Jian Dan. Although everyone knew that the political commissar's wife was capable, they all thought she was capable in hunting wild boars and in the mountains.
As for wolves, rumors existed, but only Lin Dongfang and his group knew much about them. Others had only heard rumors a few times, and very few had actually seen one in person. Now that they had suddenly spotted one, they didn't dare to say anything loudly. They quietly drew their weapons, assumed defensive stances, and shielded Jian Dan behind them.
