Chapter 6 Sleeping "It's none of your business."...
The moon hung high above the courtyard, and the sky was dark.
Under the crooked tree, Yue Mingxi happily hung the bright lantern she had bought on the crooked tree.
This is also a small magical artifact that ordinary people can use; it can change color according to the incantation.
"Bright lanterns, bright flowers appear, turning green."
Yue Mingxi excitedly recited the incantation, and as soon as she finished, a ball of green light instantly enveloped the two of them.
The crooked, withered tree shimmered with green light. Yue Mingxi gently touched the withered tree and whispered, "It's so beautiful. You've come back to life."
Wu Shanqing sat on the small wooden chair and scoffed. "You're really free."
Yue Mingxi turned her head and retorted, "You're a very busy person, a very busy person lying on the roof."
"Don't call me out of the blue unless it's absolutely necessary," Wu Shanqing said coldly.
“I didn’t shout randomly,” Yue Mingxi said angrily. “I already said I was waiting for you to have dinner together.”
Wu Shanqing sneered, "You want to hang up the lamp again while we're eating."
Yue Mingxi moved a small wooden chair over and sat down at the small wooden table. She had bought this chair today and had specifically chosen one that most closely resembled the chair Wu Shanqing was sitting on.
"I've already laid out the food. If you're hungry, just eat first. You don't need to wait for me," Yue Mingxi said, puzzled.
"You're just being presumptuous," Wu Shanqing mocked her. "Who's waiting for you? I'm waiting for the food to get cold."
"This food is already lukewarm." Yue Mingxi handed Wu Shanqing a pair of chopsticks, giving him a way out, "Stop arguing, okay? Let's eat."
Wu Shanqing took the chopsticks and snorted coldly, "You're the one arguing with me."
Yue Mingxi was speechless. Wasn't it him who said she was bored first?
Taking a breath, Yue Mingxi decided not to argue with him. She forced a smile and nodded, "Okay, it was me who argued with you. Let's eat now."
If we don't eat soon, the food will get cold.
Wu Shanqing hummed in agreement and hesitated for a long time before picking up his chopsticks.
The aroma of fish in the morning was like a dream, and to prolong this beautiful dream, he has not eaten anything so far.
Yue Mingxi picked up a shrimp and watched his slow movements. His chopsticks were still in mid-air. Her heart tightened and her nose felt dry.
Because Wu Shanqing always appeared calm and composed, she often forgot.
The boy, who was about the same age as her, was blind and could not see.
She pursed her lips and said softly, "Here we have braised prawns, Dongpo pork, stir-fried lettuce, braised pig's trotters, and osmanthus lotus seed porridge. What would you like to eat? I'll put some in your small bowl."
Wu Shanqing said calmly, "No need, it would be too much trouble."
“It’s no trouble at all,” Yue Mingxi said carefully, afraid of hurting his pride. “It will be done in a moment.”
Wu Shanqing was baffled. "Why?"
"Huh?" Yue Mingxi bit her tongue, unsure how to answer.
Wu Shanqing turned his head toward her location, and it took him a long time to understand her thought process.
He pursed his lips and said indifferently, "No need, don't worry about it."
"???" Is this even human language?
"What a waste of good intentions," Yue Mingxi snorted. "Never mind if you don't need it."
While eating her meal, Yue Mingxi would occasionally glare at him.
You don't know until you glare at them.
Wu Shanqing is actually a picky eater.
They would only take a small bite of one dish, and after a long while, they would pick up another dish and only take a small bite of that as well.
After he finished four small bites, Yue Mingxi saw him put down his chopsticks and said expressionlessly, "I'm full. I'll wash the dishes after you finish eating."
After saying that, he got up and left without waiting for Yue Mingxi to speak.
Watching Wu Shanqing's departing figure, Yue Mingxi stared in disbelief, and the pig's trotter she was holding with her chopsticks fell onto the small wooden table with a thud.
This person doesn't just have picky eating disorder, they probably have anorexia.
Watching Wu Shanqing wash his hands at the well outside the small kitchen, he suddenly jumped onto the roof.
Yue Mingxi twitched her lips, picked up the pig's trotter that had fallen on the wooden table, and ate it.
The wooden table was covered with a pink floral tablecloth she had just bought. The pig's trotters weren't dirty, so they could still be eaten.
After finishing the pig's trotters, Yue Mingxi called out to him, "You ate so little, aren't you hungry?"
Wu Shanqing ignored her.
Yue Mingxi, used to this, picked up a piece of Dongpo pork, ate a few pieces of lettuce, and called out to him again, "Is the food not to your liking?"
Wu Shanqing ignored her again.
After eating five or six more large shrimp in a row, Yue Mingxi continued.
"You haven't had a single sip of your osmanthus and lotus seed porridge yet, would you like some?"
Wu Shanqing still ignored her.
"If you won't drink it, I'll drink it all." Yue Mingxi scooped up some porridge and started drinking it.
She was trying to scare him; there was too much porridge, and she couldn't finish it even if she ate herself.
To her relief, Wu Shanqing took action this time.
However, it wasn't there to steal her porridge; rather, it had finally grown fed up with her and flew from the rooftop to the backyard.
Yue Mingxi twitched her lips. It seemed that this time they were really ignoring her. Before, they would always tell her to shut up.
Looking down at the food on the small wooden table, Yue Mingxi sighed softly.
It was her oversight; she forgot to ask Wu Shanqing what she liked to eat, and bought only what she herself liked.
Yue Mingxi, you really are something else. All your money was given to you by Wu Shanqing.
Frustrated, Yue Mingxi pounded her head and continued eating.
There's so much food; it would be a waste not to eat it.
After she's eaten her fill, let's grill a big fish for Wu Shanqing.
Although Wu Shanqing ate the fish with a blank expression, Yue Mingxi knew that he liked it.
-
Sitting on the little wooden chair she bought herself, Yue Mingxi hummed an off-key tune as she grilled fish in the backyard.
Today I upgraded my grilling tools, using large iron skewers I bought at the market. No more climbing trees and breaking branches, no more living like a savage.
After washing the dishes and chopsticks, Wu Shanqing went to the backyard to pick herbs.
When Yue Mingxi saw him from afar, her eyes lit up. She put the big fish on the grill and hopped over to Wu Shanqing's side.
"Here, this is a gift for you." Yue Mingxi explained excitedly to him, "This is a storage bag, it can hold a whole room's worth of things."
Wu Shanqing lowered his head and reached out to the girl's hand. Although he couldn't see it, he could sense it.
A very basic, low-level spatial storage device.
Yue Mingxi excitedly explained to him, "This is a storage pouch, a fragrant pouch with magical power that can hold a whole room's worth of things. I specially picked out the dark blue one for you, do you like it?"
"I don't want to." Wu Shanqing frowned.
Yue Mingxi opened her eyes wide, "Why don't you want to?"
"unnecessary."
Why not?
"It's no use."
"Why didn't it work?" Yue Mingxi asked doubtfully. "How do you know it didn't work if you didn't use it?"
Wu Shanqing was speechless and walked away, avoiding her.
"Don't go." Yue Mingxi grabbed him to prevent him from running away again. "I've already accepted your gift, so you should reciprocate by accepting mine, otherwise I'll feel embarrassed."
Wu Shanqing sighed, "Give it to me."
“I know,” Wu Shanqing interrupted her; he was truly afraid of her sharp tongue.
"You know that's fine," Yue Mingxi said happily. "Then I'm leaving."
Wu Shanqing gave a perfunctory "hmm," casually put the storage bag into the void, and got up to pick herbs.
I had just finished picking the herbs when the noisy noise started again.
"By the way, Wu Shanqing, I noticed you only have one bed, so I bought another one." Yue Mingxi looked at him with a grin. "You can sleep in your room tonight, I'll sleep in another room. I've washed and made up the pillows, mats, and blankets for you."
Wu Shanqing hummed in agreement. "Come to the front yard to take your medicine later."
“Great! I just bought some osmanthus cake at the market. I’ll eat it after I finish my medicine, and my mouth won’t taste bitter anymore.” Yue Mingxi curled her lips, looked up at Wu Shanqing, and blinked her big eyes.
"Thank you, Wu Shanqing. Would you like some osmanthus cake? I forgot about it while we were eating, and I only remembered it when I was rummaging through my storage bag, hahaha."
"I won't eat." With that casual remark, Wu Shanqing walked away from her.
Watching Wu Shanqing's rapidly moving figure, Yue Mingxi scratched her head. Was she really that scary?
She skipped back to where she started and continued grilling her fish.
This one will definitely taste even better than the one from this morning. Before grilling it, she marinated the fish with the seasonings she bought.
If she hadn't been so full, she would have ordered another one.
Once she figured the fish was almost done grilling, Yuemingxi took it off the wooden rack, extinguished the fire, and cleaned up the surrounding area.
While rubbing his aching lower back, he slowly walked towards the front yard.
As she walked into the kitchen, Yue Mingxi pushed open the door, letting the cool breeze in.
Looking down at Wushanqing, Yue Mingxi laughed and said, "Aren't you hot with the door closed?"
Wu Shanqing looked up in her direction and said, "Get out."
"I'm not going out." Yue Mingxi smiled and held out her hand, saying, "Here, this fish is for you."
"I don't want to eat." Wu Shanqing poured herbs into the bowl, stood up, and handed it to her. "Drink it."
Yue Mingxi reached out and took the bowl, downed it in one gulp, and then took out osmanthus cake from her storage pouch to eat.
Wu Shanqing took the bowl from her hands and bent down to wash it.
"Eat up, you clearly enjoyed your lunch." After finishing the osmanthus cake, the bitterness in her mouth faded, and she handed the fish towards him, saying happily, "I put a lot of seasoning in this fish, it tastes even better than at lunch."
Looking apologetically at Wu Shanqing, Yue Mingxi explained softly, "I'm sorry, it was my oversight today. I bought all my favorite foods without considering you."
Wu Shanqing put the washed dishes back in their original place. "It's getting late, go to sleep."
“If you eat the fish, I’ll go to sleep,” Yue Mingxi reasoned.
Wu Shanqing looked down at her, puzzled, and said, "Whether you sleep or not is none of my business."
“Because,” Yue Mingxi rolled her eyes, her mind suddenly brightening as she came up with a brilliant reason, “I’m the one who made you not eat well tonight. If you don’t eat, I won’t be able to sleep well.”
"It's none of your business," Wu Shanqing said indifferently. "Don't bother me anymore."
Yue Mingxi took a deep breath and gritted her teeth.
Gently placing the fish on the wooden table, Yue Mingxi forced a smile. "I've put the fish here. You can eat it if you want. Even if you don't eat it, I'll still sleep very soundly."
Hearing the girl's footsteps fade into the distance, Wu Shanqing closed the door, unable to maintain his composure any longer. He braced himself against the table with one hand, took out a handkerchief with the other, and coughed up black blood in a muffled voice.
The pure white handkerchief quickly turned black, and Wu Shanqing threw it into the wooden bucket and took out the next handkerchief.
After using three handkerchiefs, Wu Shanqing washed his hands in front of the wooden basin with a blank expression.
My head was throbbing, and the tasteless food I ate last night made my stomach churn, causing extreme nausea and pain.
Thousands of years of insomnia, loss of taste, and very little food intake have caused Wu Shanqing to develop many health problems.
Looking down at the grilled fish on the wooden table, Wu Shanqing's expression was complicated.
In the morning, I thought my sense of taste, which had been lost for thousands of years, had been restored, but by evening it had returned to its original state.
He'd been suffering from insomnia for so long that it was causing him to hallucinate.
With a slight twitch of his lips, Wu Shanqing used magic to move the grilled fish into his palm, preparing to burn it to ashes.
The irresistible aroma emanating from the grilled fish was making his stomach ache unbearably.
Suddenly, he heard a girl's cheerful laughter coming from inside the house, and Wu Shanqing paused in his spellcasting.
"I won't be able to sleep well if you don't eat." Her words began to echo in his ears.
They kept going on and on, disturbing his peace.
"I can't sleep well, I can't sleep well."
"Wu Shanqing, I won't be able to sleep well."
"Wu Shanqing, I can't sleep, I can't sleep."
Angry, sad, aggrieved, helpless—all sorts of distinctive voices filled his brain, making his head ache so badly it felt like it was going to explode.
Gripping the large iron skewer tightly, his fingers turning white, Wu Shanqing frowned, unable to bear it any longer.
"Stop arguing, I'll eat it."
If you can't sleep well again, don't blame me.
A stomachache is better than a headache. Despite the discomfort, Wu Shanqing reluctantly raised his hand and gently took a small bite of the fish's belly.
Suddenly, Wu Shanqing froze.
The fish was tender and the aroma danced on his taste buds; it was indeed even tastier than during the day.
Holding the grilled fish helplessly, Wu Shanqing tilted his head, sensing its movement, and remained motionless for a long time.
Having lived for 18,000 years, this was the first time in his life that he had encountered a problem that even he himself could not solve.
