Chapter 5 Transcending "The whole mountain echoed with your cries."...
Walking through the mountains and forests, Yue Mingxi looked excitedly at Chen Wanbai.
"Sister Bai, let's go to the market."
The girl had a graceful figure, fair skin, and her jet-black hair was simply tied up with a jade hairpin.
Looking down at Yue Mingxi's pink blouse and green skirt, Chen Wanbai smiled and said, "You look really good in this."
"I think it's beautiful too." Yue Mingxi turned around to show Chen Wanbai, and said happily, "Wu Shanqing picked it up from the roadside, and the quality is super good!"
Chen Wanbai's eyes widened, clearly startled.
"What's wrong, Sister Bai?" Yue Mingxi tilted her head to look at her expression.
"It's nothing." Chen Wanbai looked dazed. Her master had clearly sent her out to buy these clothes, telling her to be extremely careful.
You must choose the best shop, the best materials, and the most beautiful colors.
Looking at the girl's expensive silk clothes and the priceless green hairpin in her hair.
Shaking her head, Chen Wanbai decided to keep this secret.
Since Lord Wu has said this, he must have his reasons.
Moreover, this legendary Lord Wu is too terrifying; she dares not tell the girl the truth without permission.
Curling up to look at Yue Mingxi, Chen Wanbai smiled and asked, "Is it appropriate to wear this?"
"The clothes fit well, but," Yue Mingxi smiled sheepishly, "the embroidered shoes are a bit tight."
"Aren't the embroidered shoes suitable?" Chen Wanbai paused. It was her oversight; she should have bought several pairs of shoes in different sizes.
Time was tight, and she needed to buy other items, so she only bought two sets of clothes and matching embroidered shoes.
Looking apologetically at Yue Mingxi, Chen Wanbai asked softly, "Can you walk?"
"It's alright," Yue Mingxi said with a smile.
Chen Wanbai stopped and turned to look at Yue Mingxi. "I'll carry you on my back."
"Huh?" Yue Mingxi was stunned and quickly waved her hand, "No need, Sister Bai, no need, I can bear it."
Chen Wanbai said earnestly, "I'll carry you. I'm a cultivator, it won't tire me out."
"Really, it's not necessary, Sister Bai. It's just a little bit tight."
As she spoke, Yue Mingxi bounced a few times to show Chen Wanbai.
“That’s uncomfortable too.” Chen Wanbai smiled. “Come on, I’ll carry you on my back. It’s really not tiring at all.”
A wave of emotion welled up in Yue Mingxi's heart, but she didn't want Sister Bai to get tired.
She pursed her lips and mentally encouraged herself.
Keep going, Yuemingxi, you can do it! Don't let one bad experience make you overly cautious.
You are not afraid at all; you are incredibly brave.
Gritting her teeth, Yue Mingxi looked up at Chen Wanbai, her eyes crinkling into a smile. "Sister Bai will get tired too. Sister Bai, please take me on your sword. I'm not afraid anymore."
Once outside the courtyard, Chen Wanbai suggested taking her away on a flying sword. Yue Mingxi already had a slight fear of heights, and yesterday she had been hit by objects thrown from a high place.
After floating in the sky for half a day, I crashed to the ground and almost became a vegetable. I suffered severe physical and mental trauma and developed a severe fear of heights.
Chen Wanbai's suggestion was rejected by her with trembling legs and a shaky voice. Chen Wanbai was also startled by her reaction and repeatedly comforted her, saying that she would not wield the terrifying sword anymore.
So the two of them started walking through the mountains and forests, their steps uneven.
Chen Wanbai shook her head, looking at the sensible Yue Mingxi with a loving expression, "Don't force yourself, I'll carry you."
"I'm really not afraid anymore." Yue Mingxi looked like she was going to her death. "Sister Bai, let's fly on our swords quickly. I'm hungry and I want to eat."
"Are you hungry?" Chen Wanbai asked gently.
“Mmm, mmm, mmm,” Yue Mingxi nodded frantically, “I’m so hungry I can’t stand it, I’m about to faint from hunger, let’s hurry and fly on our swords.”
“Alright then,” Chen Wanbai said, looking at the girl with a somewhat conflicted expression, as she drew her sword from her waist.
Flying through the air on her sword, Yue Mingxi closed her eyes, her legs trembling uncontrollably, and tightly hugged Chen Wanbai from behind.
Chen Wanbai asked worriedly, "Are you really alright? Should we walk instead?"
"It's alright." Yue Mingxi tried hard to suppress the trembling in her voice. "I'm so hungry, I'm going to fly on my sword."
“Okay,” Chen Wanbai gently comforted her, “Hang in there a little longer. I know a shortcut, we’ll be there soon. And I have a very high talent for sword control, so even if you fall, I can catch you.”
Yue Mingxi asked in surprise, "Sister Yue knows the way, so why did you get lost in the mountains for two hours?"
Chen Wanbai gave a wry smile, "I just found out too."
After saying that, Chen Wanbai's eyes darkened. Once she returned to her sect, she would definitely find out who had tampered with her magical artifact.
If her magical artifact hadn't malfunctioned, she wouldn't have had to spend two hours struggling to fly her sword through the mountains before finally finding the small courtyard.
The terrain of Yuancang Mountain is mysterious and complex, and the courtyard changes position constantly with the sun, moon and time.
Two hours was the limit of what she could do.
However, it wasn't without its gains. After two hours, she had almost figured out the terrain of Yuancang Mountain and even found a shortcut that would allow the beautiful girl to eat faster.
-
Wearing suitable embroidered shoes, rubbing her full stomach, Yue Mingxi looked at Chen Wanbai, who was eating politely.
Before eating at the restaurant, she thought that cultivators in this world couldn't eat, but it turns out they can.
It's all Wu Shanqing's fault for misleading her.
Several times, Yue Mingxi glanced at Chen Wanbai, hesitated before speaking, and then quietly lowered her eyes.
She dared not ask the question she most wanted to know, for fear of receiving a negative answer.
Chen Wanbai put down her chopsticks, looked at the girl whose face was full of worries, and smiled gently at her.
Is there something you want to say to me?
Yue Mingxi nodded, then shook her head after a long while.
Chen Wanbai smiled and patiently guided her. "It's just the two of us here, it's okay. Whatever you want to ask, I'll tell you if I know the answer."
Yue Mingxi clenched her fist tightly and gently exhaled.
Even though she only had six months left to live, she still wanted to fight for herself.
The outcome may not be what she wanted, but she... at least had the courage to ask.
She went to the hospital so many times, had so many tests, and took so many medications.
I've seen doctors shake their heads time and time again, and heard countless stories of pity.
She was already indestructible; she could endure anything.
Raising her head, Yue Mingxi carefully considered her words, blinked, and asked innocently, "Sister Bai, do you cultivators live for a very long time?"
We mustn't let Sister Bai notice anything amiss, and we mustn't let her know that she doesn't have long to live.
Chen Wanbai nodded. "That's right. As long as you cultivate diligently, you can live for as long as you want."
With a sigh of relief, Yue Mingxi excitedly asked, "Great! Sister Bai, do you think I can cultivate immortality?"
“To cultivate immortality, one needs to join a sect, and to join a sect, one must pass an examination.” Chen Wanbai explained seriously, “The examination is held once a year, and the content of the examination varies from sect to sect, and it is different every year.”
Looking down at Yue Mingxi with loving eyes, Chen Wanbai smiled and said, "Do you want to cultivate immortality? Cultivating immortality is very hard work."
“Yes, yes, yes.” Yue Mingxi nodded frantically. “A mortal’s lifespan of a hundred years is no longer enough for me. I want to live longer.”
“Xiaoxi is lucky,” Chen Wanbai said gently. “The annual sect assessment conference will be held in half a month. The conference will last for a month. Xiaoxi can give it a try.”
"But I don't know anything yet." Yue Mingxi rubbed her nose sheepishly.
"It's alright," Chen Wanbai said with a smile. "I can teach you."
"Wow, Sister Bai, you're so kind," Yue Mingxi hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Sister Bai."
After having a satisfying meal at Shimanlou, Yuemingxi made a reservation with the waiter and arranged to pick it up at 5 PM.
Since she was completely unfamiliar with the market, Chen Wanbai took it upon herself to be the guide.
Looking down at the bright young girl who was following her eagerly, Chen Wanbai smiled gently, "Let's go buy a storage bag first."
"A storage pouch?" Yue Mingxi asked curiously. "What is that?"
"It's a sachet that can be used to store items and is worn on the waist. It's a small magical artifact. You can put everything you want to buy inside. The best storage pouches in the market can hold the contents of an entire room."
"Can people who don't cultivate immortality use these magical artifacts?" Yue Mingxi asked doubtfully.
"Small magical artifacts can be used, but high-level magical artifacts cannot."
Chen Wanbai answered all her questions and patiently explained these everyday common sense facts to the girl.
Although she didn't know why the girl was so clueless, Chen Wanbai was a sensible and discreet person, and she would never be curious about things that were not her business.
“Okay, let’s go buy it quickly,” Yue Mingxi said, jumping up and down. “I also want to buy one more as a gift for Wu Shanqing.”
Chen Wanbai smiled and agreed.
The market was bustling and lively, with shouts and calls filling the air. All sorts of goods were on display, none of which Yue Mingxi had ever seen before.
Looking east and west along the bright stream, Yueming felt that her eyes couldn't take it all in.
Excitedly, Yue Mingxi packed all the things she bought into her storage bag, her haul was plentiful.
Not only did she buy it for herself, she also bought a hairpin as a gift for Chen Wanbai.
As the sun gradually set, fiery clouds blanketed half of the distant Cangshan Mountain.
Standing in front of the courtyard, Yue Mingxi waved goodbye to Chen Wanbai.
There was a lot of food ordered, and she earnestly invited Chen Wanbai to have dinner with them, but Chen Wanbai politely declined.
Looking at Chen Wanbai, Yue Mingxi said gratefully, "Sister Bai, thank you for taking me out to play. I'm very happy."
Chen Wanbai smiled gently, "No need to thank me, I was just following orders."
She patted her head with her hand and said shamefully, "Sister Bai, will this interfere with your cultivation today?"
"No, no," Chen Wanbai quickly replied, "My master promised me a magic pill, which is equivalent to a year of my cultivation."
This is why someone tried to destroy her magical artifacts.
"Oh, I see." Yue Mingxi smiled broadly and said happily, "Then Sister Bai, don't forget to ask your master for it."
"Okay." Chen Wanbai curled her lips. "Then I'll be going. I'll come and teach you when I have time."
"Is this also an order to follow?" Yue Mingxi blinked.
“No,” Chen Wanbai shook her head and smiled, “I wanted to teach you myself.”
"Then Sister Bai will not have the elixir and will have to spend extra time cultivating on her own."
Hearing the girl's regretful voice, Chen Wanbai burst out laughing. How could there be such a cute person?
Suppressing a laugh, Chen Wanbai said, "My cultivation is already quite high, so it won't make a difference if I teach you for a while longer."
Yue Mingxi scratched her head sheepishly, "I'm sorry to have troubled Sister Bai."
"No trouble at all." Chen Wanbai smiled, jumped onto her flying sword, and said, "Goodbye, Xiaoxi. I'll go back and prepare some sect assessment documents for you, and I'll bring them to you then."
"Okay, goodbye, Sister Bai." Yue Mingxi jumped up and waved goodbye to Chen Wanbai, who was flying in the sky.
Their eyes watched Chen Wanbai leave until she became a tiny dot in the sky and could no longer be seen.
After watching her friend leave, Yue Mingxi smiled and turned to open the gate to the courtyard.
With a creak, the wooden door opened, and Yue Mingxi said happily, "Wu Shanqing, I'm back! Look what good things I brought you, you'll never guess!"
No one responded to her. Yue Mingxi was used to it and gently closed the rickety wooden door.
Yue Mingxi walked into the courtyard, turned her head left and right, but did not see anyone.
I glanced at the roof instinctively; Wu Shanqing wasn't lying on it.
"Is he inside?" Yue Mingxi murmured to herself. Reaching the door of the small house, she called out loudly, "Wu Shanqing, are you in the small house?"
No one answered her. Yue Mingxi frowned slightly, tilted her head back, and called out again. "If you don't speak, I'll come in."
After waiting at the door for a minute without hearing any sound, Yue Mingxi walked into the small house with unease.
They searched the entire cabin, but still couldn't find Wu Shanqing.
Catching her breath, Yue Mingxi felt a little scared.
All they could see outside were mountains stretching as far as the eye could see, and their family lived alone in the entire mountain range.
It was getting dark, and she was afraid to be alone here.
The door is so dilapidated, it's practically useless. What if a wild animal comes into the house at night? She can't possibly fight it off.
Taking a deep breath, Yue Mingxi ran towards the backyard, shouting as she ran.
"Wu Shanqing, are you in the backyard?"
"Wu Shanqing, where have you gone?"
After searching the backyard, Wu Shanqing was still nowhere to be found.
Yue Mingxi sniffed. Where did they go?
It was completely dark when Yue Mingxi walked out of the backyard, looking lost and dejected.
Losing her balance, Yue Mingxi stepped onto a rock, her foot sliding forward along the slippery surface, causing her to lean backward uncontrollably.
Yue Mingxi subconsciously closed her eyes, and then her lower back was firmly supported by a pair of warm, strong hands.
The cold, still air of Wushan Mountain came from above her head.
"I'm only leaving for a short while, and the whole mountain is filled with your shouts. Aren't you afraid of attracting wild animals?"
He gently placed Yue Mingxi on the ground, and she looked at him with surprise, "You're back."
Wu Shanqing withdrew his hand and gave a blank "hmm".
Yue Mingxi retorted angrily, "I wasn't arguing, I was looking for you."
"So free?" Wu Shanqing glanced at her through his veiled eyes. He hadn't slept for a long time, and his head was starting to ache violently again.
"It's not because I'm bored," Yue Mingxi muttered softly, "I'm here to have dinner with you."
Wu Shanqing paused for a moment, then got up and walked towards the front yard.
"Where are you going?" Yue Mingxi called out as she looked at his back. "You can't go out. It's getting dark, and I'm scared to be alone."
Wu Shanqing turned around and asked suspiciously, "Didn't you say we'd have dinner together?"
"Oh." Yue Mingxi awkwardly touched her nose, then cheered up again. "Coming."
Following Wu Shanqing, Yue Mingxi looked up at him. "Where did you go?"
"I didn't go anywhere," Wu Shanqing said calmly.
"You're lying, you weren't even home." Yue Mingxi had to jog to keep up with him.
"Fine, don't believe me then," Wu Shanqing said dismissively, slowing his pace.
"You don't want to tell me, do you?" Yue Mingxi nodded knowingly. "I understand. I overstepped my bounds."
Looking apologetically at Wu Shanqing, Yue Mingxi sincerely apologized.
"I'm sorry, I was just too curious. I won't do it again."
After a pause, Wu Shanqing stopped and spoke coldly.
"I didn't go anywhere. Halfway there, someone kept calling out to me, so I flew back."
I thought she was in danger, but it turns out she was just bored out of her mind.
