Chapter 114 To Save or Not to Save
When Molly felt short of money, Ji's mother gave her a remittance slip.
"Where did you get the money?" Molly was extremely surprised; the remittance slip showed a total of two hundred thousand.
Mrs. Ji smiled and said, "Years ago, when my brother first went to Hong Kong, he was going through a tough time and sold two pieces of my jewelry. Those pieces were bought by foreigners, and he couldn't buy them back, so he's giving them to me in cash now. These pieces were originally meant for you, so in other words, this money is yours."
Molly's eyes crinkled into a smile. "Just wait and I'll make you a fortune."
Mrs. Ji shook her head, "Mom doesn't want money, I just want you all to be safe and sound."
Molly hugged Ji's mother, "Mom, you're so good."
Ji Hefeng's family is so kind!
They're family now too!
Ji Hefeng had been very busy lately. When he returned home at night, Molly was already asleep. When Molly woke up the next day, he was gone. If it weren't for the embrace that held her tightly in the middle of the night, Molly would have suspected that Ji Hefeng had never come home.
Molly spends her days at home with the children, reading to them or learning English with them. Ji Yi and the others can now stand up while holding onto things, but because they are wearing thick clothes, their movements are clumsy.
"Next spring, when they can take off their thick clothes, they'll be able to run," Grandma Ji said with a smile. Her grandchildren are strong and healthy, and the old lady is very fond of them.
One day, Ji Yi suddenly uttered the word "Dad" very clearly, which stunned Molly.
"Ji Yi, why is it Dad and not Mom?" Molly was jealous.
Ji Yi was very happy and called out "Dad" several more times.
Molly turned away, ignoring Ji Yi.
Ji's mother, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but laugh. "It's not that Ji Yi doesn't want to call me 'Mom,' it's just that the word 'Dad' is easier to pronounce than 'Mom.' Ji Yi usually keeps babbling away, bababa—Dad."
Ji's mother is learning Ji Yi's pronunciation.
Molly frowned. "Isn't it easier for Mom to send it?"
Mrs. Ji replied earnestly, "To be honest, it's not as easy to say as it is to say 'Dad'. But Ji Yi is so smart, if he can say 'Dad' today, he'll definitely say 'Mom' tomorrow."
That day, Molly became obsessed with the term "Mom" and kept teaching the children to call her that.
That night, Molly wasn't in a hurry to go to sleep. She planned to wait for Ji Hefeng to come back so she could share the good news that Ji Yi could speak.
To her surprise, Ji Hefeng returned home later than usual today. As soon as he got back, he went straight to the bedroom. Molly was startled by the cold, damp air that hit her face.
What happened?
Molly quickly got out of bed to find him clothes, "Go take a hot shower."
Ji Hefeng quickly took off his wet clothes and changed into the clothes Molly had brought him. "It's too late."
“What’s too late?” Molly asked.
"Wu Guyu is seriously injured and in the hospital. The doctor says she might not make it until dawn." Ji Hefeng changed his clothes, and in the darkness, he grabbed Molly's shoulder. "Molly, I don't know what to do. I don't even know if I should tell you, but I... I—"
"You want Wu Guyu to live?" Molly said, speaking for Ji Hefeng.
“Yes. The Wu family played a big part in bringing down the Zhao family. Otherwise, Zhao Chengfeng wouldn’t have been so desperate and angry that he would risk his life to kill Wu Guyu.” Ji Hefeng took a deep breath and tried to keep himself calm. “I know this matter is a risk for you. If you don’t want to, or if you are unwilling, just pretend I never mentioned it.”
Molly frowned. "I'm not confident I can save him."
She didn't want Wu Guyu to die either; she was using Wu Guyu as a powerful backer quite effectively.
“Then let’s give it a try.” Ji Hefeng gripped Molly’s hand tightly. “If you are targeted, I will risk my life to protect you.”
Molly found his serious expression amusing. "It's not that serious. They won't find anything wrong. You have several physical exams every year; are there any abnormalities?"
Ji Hefeng shook his head. "No."
Molly: "That's it. If we don't admit it, they won't be able to find anything. Let's go, take me to the hospital to see Wu Guyu."
Ji Hefeng drove back in a military vehicle, which was filthy and covered in mud and dust. It was easy to guess that the vehicle had gone through a harrowing ordeal tonight.
The night was pitch black, there were few people on the road, the wind howled, and the sounds of wolves and ghosts filled the air, making it somewhat eerie.
"It should snow in a few days. I asked Uncle Geng to mail some down jackets back. I heard they're lightweight and very warm, but I don't know if it's true." Ji Hefeng gripped the steering wheel, glanced at Molly, then turned his head back. "Who prepared this colorful cotton coat for you?"
"Grandma made it. What, doesn't it look good?" Molly looked down at her big floral cotton-padded jacket. She was quite satisfied; it was warm and comfortable to wear.
Ji Hefeng raised an eyebrow. When did Grandma's taste change?
"You look good in anything." Ji Hefeng wasn't being perfunctory. His wife was slender, tall, with a curvaceous figure and skin whiter than snow. She looked good in anything.
The two of them fell silent. The car passed through several checkpoints and stopped in front of a six-story white building.
Ji Hefeng led Molly inside. It was quiet all around, and there were soldiers standing guard at intervals along the corridor.
Upon seeing Ji Hefeng, they first saluted, then turned their gaze to Molly beside Ji Hefeng.
"This is my wife," Ji Hefeng said, without any further introduction.
No one stopped Molly, and they arrived at Wu Guyu's ward without any hindrance.
Wu Guyu's family members all came, each with a sorrowful expression, and several women were sobbing quietly.
Upon seeing Ji Hefeng, Wu Guyu's parents, their eyes red, nodded to him.
Ji Hefeng nodded slightly to them, "My wife wanted to come and see off Guyu."
“This must be Molly,” Mr. Wu said, sighing. “Gu Yu has mentioned Molly a lot at home and praised you a lot. He admires your character.”
Molly pursed her lips and simply said, "Take care of yourself."
Ji Hefeng led Molly into the ward without incident. There was no one in the ward, only the sound of medical equipment operating.
“We only have a few minutes,” Ji Hefeng reminded Molly.
Molly hummed in agreement.
Ji Hefeng: "Should I excuse myself?"
"Need not."
Molly grasped Wu Guyu's hand, and under Ji Hefeng's gaze, countless pink tentacles emerged from Molly's left palm and the spot where three fingers were missing. These tentacles, thinner than a hair, numbered in the thousands, and seemed to possess a life of their own, burrowing into Wu Guyu's body through his wounds—
Even though Ji Hefeng had prepared himself mentally, he was still taken aback by what he saw.
Is this even human?
Ji Hefeng nervously looked at the rest of Molly's body, and only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that nothing else had changed.
Fortunately, she still retains her human form.
If he loses his human form, with his abilities, he would probably have a hard time protecting her.
At this moment, Ji Hefeng felt no disgust or fear, only worry for Molly.
Molly continued to attack, because Wu Guyu's injuries were too severe, even more so than Ji Hefeng's, and he could die at any moment, so she dared not hold back. Only when no more tentacles could grow back did Molly grit her teeth and cut off all the tentacles, leaving them inside Wu Guyu's body.
The next second, everything went black for Molly.
Ji Hefeng was startled and quickly hugged the person.
"Go home, I want to get a good night's sleep." Molly said this before losing consciousness.
Ji Hefeng picked her up, opened the door to the ward, and strode out.
"Uncle and Aunt, my wife is tired. I'll take her back to rest first."
After saying that, without waiting for Old Wu to speak, Ji Hefeng picked up Molly and left.
"......."
The Wu family was completely baffled. What had happened? How could someone fall asleep in just a few minutes?
Molly's face was very pale. It used to be fair with a rosy glow, full of vitality. Now it was even paler, almost transparent, without a trace of blood, as if it would shatter at the slightest touch.
Ji Hefeng's movements became gentle as he placed the person on the bed, covered them with the blanket, and gently pulled them into his arms. The person who used to be like a warm stove was now as cold as an ice cube.
Was she like this every time she saved him?
Ji Hefeng felt as if a large hand was gripping his heart tightly, causing him unbearable pain.
He swore this was the last time.
As dawn broke outside, Ji Hefeng held Molly but felt no sleepiness whatsoever.
As the children gradually woke up, Ji and Feng prepared milk for them, changed their diapers, and pushed them out of the room so they wouldn't disturb Molly.
"dad--"
Ji Yi called out to Ji Hefeng in a soft, clear voice.
Ji Hefeng was stunned, looking at Ji Yi in disbelief, "You can call me Dad?"
"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy..." Her little mouth kept babbling, and after she finished calling out, she laughed, revealing her tiny, glutinous teeth.
Ji Hefeng smiled, his eyes welling up with tears. He picked up Ji Yi and pressed his stubble-covered face against Ji Yi's small face, successfully earning a slap from Ji Yi.
“Yi Yi, it’s wrong to slap people all the time, you know?” Ji Hefeng said with a serious expression.
“Our Ji Yi is very well-behaved, he rarely hits anyone. You should shave your beard, the child’s delicate skin can’t take it.” Grandma Ji nudged Ji Hefeng, “Go wash your face, you’re so sloppy, be careful Molly will dislike you.”
Ji Hefeng snorted twice, "Molly, Molly, with Molly around, neither you nor Grandpa care about me anymore."
"I don't care about you at all," Grandma Ji said irritably. "Molly is so much better. She's capable, beautiful, well-behaved, and she gave me six wonderful grandchildren. What do you have that compares to her?"
Ji Hefeng choked. Fine, if we compare them like that, he really can't compare.
"Why isn't Molly up? Did you push her too hard last night?" Grandma Ji said sternly. "Ji Yi and the others are still young. Don't cause another baby to be born. Of course, it's not that you can't have children, but you have to wait, understand?"
Ji Hefeng: "......."
Rebirth?
"Grandma, you can only have one child now," Ji Hefeng reminded his grandmother.
"That's true." Grandma Ji said with a hint of regret, "It's a bit of a pity that there can only be six of such well-behaved, beautiful, and intelligent children like Ji Yi and the others."
Ji Hefeng disagreed, saying, "Six is already a lot."
Grandma Ji: "Who would complain about having too many children? When Ji Yi and the others go away to study, the house will be so quiet and empty. Just thinking about it makes me sad."
Ji Hefeng resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "They're not even a year old yet. You're thinking too far ahead."
“Mo An and the other two went abroad in January, and suddenly there were three fewer people in the family. I’m just expressing my feelings.” Grandma Ji was reluctant to part with the three children; this departure might be a final farewell for her.
Ji Hefeng: "They'll be gone for a few years and then they'll probably come back with their partners. Once they get married and have children, the house will be even more lively."
Grandma Ji couldn't help but smile again when she thought about that scene. "That makes sense."
