Second candy

Second candy

There is a beautifully decorated clothing store in the city.

Originally, the magician wanted to take Evelin to the second-hand store where he had bought clothes before, but when he saw the exquisite dress she was wearing, he gave up the idea.

When I entered the clothing store, the owner came up to me enthusiastically, "Hey White! Why are you here?"

"Bring a friend to choose clothes from you." The magician said with a smile.

After hearing what the magician said, the boss turned his attention to Evelin.

Evelyn sneaked out of the palace and followed the magician around for another day. Although she had cleaning magic to take care of herself, she still looked a little disheveled compared to her previous dignified princess appearance.

The boss had sharp eyes and could tell at a glance the fabric and workmanship of the lady's skirt. He quickly searched in his mind for clothes in his store that were suitable for her.

"Garfield, take this lady to the second floor to choose a skirt." The boss called a female clerk and said.

"I don't want a skirt." Evelin shook her head when she heard the boss's words. She raised her chin slightly and her eyes stopped at the magician. "I want the same clothes as hers."

As Evelin finished speaking, the clerk didn't need the boss's instructions, but stretched out his hand and made a gesture of invitation, "Come with me this way."

After Evelin and the clerk walked away, the boss approached the magician and lowered his voice, “Where did you trick this noble lady from?”

"Don't talk about others behind their backs." The magician glanced sideways at his boss.

Seeing that she was unwilling to talk, the boss shrugged his shoulders, stopped asking questions, and changed the subject, "Are you really leaving next week?"

"Um."

"That's fine. You're capable, so you should go to a big city." The boss nodded in agreement. "But my girl, if she can't see you, she'll probably burst into tears."

"Children have short memories. If they don't see me for two days, they will forget about me." The magician said in a flat voice.

"I hope so."

While the magician was talking to the boss, Evelyn had already changed her clothes.

She chose the same outfit as the magician, but it was all black. Her hair was not tied up, but was draped over her shoulders. She held the brim of her hat with her right hand, looking a little playful.

"How is it?" Without standing in front of the mirror, Evelyn asked the magician to judge first.

"That's right." The magician responded, pretending to think seriously.

"Okay, boss, pay the bill!"

"Okay, ma'am!" It was the first time the boss had seen such a happy customer, and there were a few more smile lines under his eyes.

In addition to the set of clothes she was wearing, Evelin bought another set as a spare.

The spare set of clothes and the skirt Evelin had changed out of were put into her space ring. The boss was knowledgeable and didn't look shocked at this. He just glanced at the magician with a teasing look, and the emotion in his eyes expressed was "You made a profit."

The two sets of clothes cost a total of eighty gold coins, and this was after the boss gave him a discount because he knew the magician.

The magician knew that things here were expensive, but he didn't expect them to be so expensive. If he had known earlier, he might as well have taken Evelyn to a second-hand store.

After all, she now knew that money was something that could not be spent, but since this money was spent by Evelin herself, the magician would not make any comments on it.

After walking a distance away from the clothing store, Evelin said to the magician in surprise, "The clothes here are so cheap."

The magician was silent for a moment.

Yes, this is a lady of the nobility, and everything she has is not something that ordinary people can afford.

Even a noble lady is like this... The magician counted on his fingers and his expression became much heavier.

"What are you thinking about?" Evelyn asked, seeing the magician was obviously lost in thought.

"Nothing." The magician shook his head.

Evelyn hadn't been asking questions out of curiosity; she simply hoped that when she was with the great magician, he would pay most of his attention to her, even though she was now just a down-and-out noble lady.

"The owner of the clothing store just called you White. Is that your pseudonym when you go out?" Evelyn asked. "What's your real name?"

Evelin already knew she was a woman, so there was no need to hide her name. The magician lowered his voice and whispered in Evelin's ear, "My name is Violet."

*

In the afternoon, Violet was going to the welfare home to perform a magic show, which had been agreed upon beforehand.

The performance was at three o'clock in the afternoon. Violet and Evelyn returned to the cave, and their lunch was still roasted sweet potatoes.

After dinner.

Violet didn't have the habit of taking a nap, so she gave up her straw bed for Evelyn to rest.

The sweet potatoes in the clay pot were almost gone, so Violet picked up the pot and prepared to go out and dig a few more.

As soon as Violet made a move, Evelin stood up and wanted to go with her. "Where are you going? I'm going too."

Vilt paused, looked at the new clothes Evelin had just changed into, and shook her head, “No need.”

"I can help. Where are you going?" Evelyn continued to ask.

"I'm going to dig sweet potatoes, you don't have to follow me." said Violet.

"Dig sweet potatoes?" Evelyn noticed the jar Vilt was holding. "You mean you dug the food you ate last night and today out of the ground? For free?"

"Um."

“You…” Evelin pursed her lips. She wanted to say something, but in the end she said nothing.

Violet realized something. She looked enlightened and pulled out a deck of cards from one of her pockets. "Can you shuffle them?"

As she spoke, her fingers pinched the playing cards, cutting and shuffling them smoothly and changing the suits.

After demonstrating this to Evelin several times, Vilt placed the playing cards in Evelin's hand and said, "Practice shuffling first."

After saying that, Vilt picked up the pottery jar again and walked out of the cave.

Evelin watched Violet leave, and her fingers gripping the playing cards subconsciously tightened.

She began to think about how to increase the daily tuition to 2 gold coins.

The sweet potato field was discovered by chance by Violet while hunting in the forest.

The forest was rich in species, with all kinds of plants growing wildly. She was tired of eating meat at the time, so she tried sweet potatoes and found them delicious, so she decided on a new recipe.

The sweet potato field was not far from the cave where she lived, and it only took twenty minutes to walk there.

Violet put the pottery jar on the ground and dug the sweet potatoes with her bare hands.

The clay pot was refilled, and Violet shook off the dirt on her hands but did not leave immediately.

In the sky, a dark shadow quickly approached.

It was a sleek-feathered crow. Violet reached out her hand, and the crow's claws grasped her fingers firmly.

After folding its wings, the crow jumped twice and landed directly on the palm of Violet's hand, then raised its head and chirped.

As if she could understand what the crow said, Vilt's expression became more serious as the bird called.

Evelyn sat on the straw bed, recalling the movements that Violet had demonstrated before she left, and occasionally looking up in the direction of the cave entrance.

When Violet was demonstrating, she deliberately slowed down her movements. Evelyn had a very good memory and could remember the general movements after watching them once. However, because she was new to the movements and not very proficient in them, her limbs were not under control. To ensure completion, her speed would be slow. However, when she pursued speed, her completion would be low, and she would often slip and drop cards all over the floor.

Footsteps were heard outside the cave, and Evelyn was distracted, and the cards fell to the ground again.

Having gotten used to bending down to pick up cards, Evelin squatted down, and soon a figure appeared beside her—it was Vilt.

"Didn't you take a break?" Violet asked after quickly picking up the cards.

She seemed just surprised at Evelin's diligence, but Evelin could easily see a hint of solemnity in the other person's expression.

Evelin herself was a little surprised. She had only known Violet for two days, so how could she figure her out so easily? Someone... was so easy to understand.

A hint of laughter flashed through her mind, but Evelyn continued to focus on Vilt's emotions.

"I'm not sleepy, so I thought I'd practice a little bit." Evelyn said, shaking the cards she took from Violet. "But unfortunately, my proficiency is still a little lacking."

"Basic skills require more practice." Violet said, her eyes fell on Evelin, moved away for a moment, and then came back.

Violet seemed to be struggling with something. She hesitated for a long time before asking, "Do you really want to learn magic?"

Evelin sensed something was wrong in Vilt's words, but she still nodded and said, "I really want to."

"I see."

knew?

Evelyn watched Violet as she replaced the filled clay pots under the straw bed, then took a wooden box from the side and placed it before her.

Evelyn had seen this wooden box before. It was what Violet always carried with her when she performed magic. It was filled with all the props she needed for her performances.

Now, Velvet pulled Evelyn to sit on the ground, opened the wooden box, took out the props one by one, and briefly explained the names and uses to her. For some props with simple steps, Velvet would demonstrate them to Evelyn on the spot.

In fact, Violet’s explanation was not very detailed, but Evelin thought of the solemn expression on her face when she just came back, and a sense of unfamiliarity welled up in her heart.

Evelin had known Violet for less than three days, and she didn't feel any panic about being abandoned. She just thought that if she couldn't go the same way as Violet, it would be a waste of her time.

Evelin recalled what happened that morning. They had clearly agreed to this. Violet had only gone out to dig up a can of sweet potatoes...

What happened?

After briefly explaining all the props in the box to Evelyn, and then putting all the props back into the wooden box, it was time for them to set off.

Violet carried the wooden box on her back and looked around the cave, which was devoid of any signs of life. She was already wearing all her wealth on her body.

There was a pocket on the chest of the brown vest. Ever since Evelyn gave the princess coin to Vilt, Vilt carefully placed the princess coin close to her heart, as if it could fill something.

Violet lowered her eyes, took out the princess coin, and handed it to Evelin. "I'll give this back to you. I can't stay here until next week. I have to leave today."
