Ruan Tang sat to the side, her little hand supporting her chin, as if listening to some novel story.
Once his crying subsided a bit, he spoke up curiously, "Yu Zhiqing."
"Sister-in-law, you can just call me Haozi!" Yu Hao quickly interrupted, afraid of calling her by the wrong name.
Ruan Tang nodded, readily agreeing: "Haozi, didn't my brother tell you that even if you go and tell them, they won't believe you? Why don't you believe him?"
Why don't you believe it?
Yu Hao opened his mouth, but his throat felt like it was stuffed with a wad of wet cotton.
After a long while, he lowered his head and said in a muffled voice, "...Maybe, I still...have some illusions about my aunt and the others."
"Although a voice inside me tells me that my brother is definitely right, I... I still want to see it with my own eyes... just in case, just in case they aren't so heartless..."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a sneer, undisguised, was heard.
Yan Yu leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed, looking down at him with an expression as if he were looking at a hopelessly stupid creature.
"So, your plan was to run to my doorstep, freeze to death, and have me collect your body?"
His voice was as cold as ice shards, each word piercing Yu Hao's heart.
"I……"
Yu Hao was so choked up that he couldn't utter a single word.
"Alright," Ruan Tang couldn't stand it anymore and reached out to tug at Yan Yu's sleeve.
Yan Yu was pulled to sit down next to her, his tall figure instantly enveloping her.
He took her small hand in his own and placed it on his lap, gently stroking it with the pad of his thumb, his gesture full of possessiveness.
Ruan Tang looked at Yu Hao, refilled his empty cup with hot water, and then asked softly, "So, what are you going to do next?"
Yu Hao raised his head, first glancing quickly at Yan Yu, then lowering his head to stare at the steaming glass of water in his hand.
It was as if they had finally made up their minds.
He said softly, but with unusual firmness, "I...I'm going to listen to my brother."
"Tomorrow, I'll go to the post office and call my grandfather to tell him everything, without missing a single detail."
“I tricked Siyuan into coming here, and... and I got slapped today, tell me everything.”
As he said this, he raised his head, his eyes still filled with tears, yet there was a resolute determination in them, as if he had already burned his bridges.
"Brother, I might... be sent to the army soon."
Yan Yu looked at him, and the chilling aura in his eyes finally dissipated somewhat.
"Going to the army is the best choice for you," he said calmly.
There was one more sentence that Yan Yu didn't say.
Starting next year, this country will face a catastrophe.
For a simpleton like Yu Hao, a disciplined military unit is the safest haven.
Just as Yu Hao was lost in his own emotions, the door to the bedroom on the right was silently pushed open by a large, furry head.
On its head, a small, snow-white creature was perched steadily.
Xiao Bai's tiny purple eyes were filled with disdain for Yu Hao, that crybaby.
Yu Hao, who suddenly tilted his head, saw this scene.
It felt like something was stuck in his throat.
His eyes widened and his mouth opened into an "O" shape.
After a long while, he managed to squeeze out a few broken syllables from his throat.
"Old...Old...Tiger..."
"Brother...brother, help..."
Before he could finish speaking, a large hand swiftly covered his mouth.
Yan Yu looked disgusted, and a chilling voice came from above him:
"Shut up!" This chapter has been read (please click to continue reading the next chapter!).
