Li Cuilan stood at the door cursing for a while, but it was quiet inside. She even wondered if Gao Jinfeng was asleep.
The thought of her cursing until her throat was dry while the other person acted as if nothing had happened left her feeling resentful and unable to calm down.
She felt she couldn't stay in this house any longer!
Li Cuilan went out wanting to find someone to talk to, but there was no one on the road. She remembered the military region's skills competition these past few days, and an idea came to her mind. She headed straight for the training ground.
Li Cuilan saw from afar that there were a lot of people on the training field, and her steps became lighter. She couldn't wait to grab someone and have a good rant.
Someone recognized Li Cuilan. "Aunt Li, the military region's skills competition is almost over, why are you only arriving now?"
Li Cuilan forced a smile. "Nobody told me about the military region's skills competition. I just felt like there was nobody around on the road, and that's how I ended up here."
The man asked in surprise, "Didn't your son and daughter-in-law tell you?"
“My son is so busy every day, how could he have time to talk to me about these things?” Li Cuilan said awkwardly.
"Your daughter-in-law has the day off these few days, so she should be free, right?"
Li Cuilan sighed softly, "She never talks to me at home, so why would she be willing to talk to me about these things?"
"Sigh, when you get old, you're useless and people dislike you."
He Meiling appeared out of nowhere, and after hearing Li Cuilan's words, she sneered, "When you're not old, you help your daughter out; when you're old, why don't you go to your daughter for support?"
"It's no wonder your daughter-in-law ignores you. If it were me, I wouldn't bother with you either."
Li Cuilan recognized He Meiling as Gao Jinfeng's colleague. A look of disgust flashed in her eyes, and she inwardly blamed He Meiling for meddling. But on the surface, she still looked aggrieved. "My daughter has to go to work, and her mother-in-law is unwilling to help her take care of the child. If I don't help her, what will she do?"
"Both are my flesh and blood; I can't just take care of my son and ignore my daughter, can I?"
He Meiling retorted, "Jin Feng also has to go to work. Haven't you ever thought about what she'll do if no one helps her take care of the child?"
Li Cuilan answered without hesitation, "Doesn't she have her mother helping to take care of her?"
“My daughter’s family helps take care of her child, and my daughter-in-law’s family helps take care of her child. Isn’t that perfect?”
“My daughter and daughter-in-law are different. If I don’t help her take care of her, she won’t be able to go to work.”
He Meiling replied, "Then if you help someone take care of the kids, you should go find that person to take care of you in your old age."
"Shouldn't it be Jin Feng's mother who's coming to Jin Feng's house to live out her retirement now?"
Li Cuilan disagreed, "Who isn't cared for in their daughter-in-law's or son's old age?"
"If I were to live with my daughter in my old age, people would laugh at my son and daughter-in-law!"
He Meiling laughed in exasperation, “Don’t worry, your situation is rather special. It’s only right that you live with your daughter in your old age, but if you live with your son, people will laugh at you.”
"You rarely go out, so you probably don't know how people laugh at you, right?"
"Would you like me to tell you?"
He Meiling's well-meaning expression startled Li Cuilan. "No need."
It goes without saying that it wasn't anything nice.
She didn't want to argue with He Meiling anymore, so she turned around and went somewhere else, intending to give Gao Jinfeng a good talking-to.
He Meiling followed Li Cuilan wherever she went, and introduced her to everyone, saying, "This is Jin Feng's mother-in-law who has been taking care of her daughter's child for ten years."
“Her daughter thought she was too old and useless, so she sent her here without informing her first.”
"Alas, Jin Feng is truly pitiful. She finally made it through, but now she has to serve her biased and cruel mother-in-law."
